Pendant de très nombreuses années, lorsqu'on arrivait à l'extrémité sud est du grand Parc Frédéric Back (le nom n'était pas encore donné), on pouvait remarquer d'assez grandes fondations de béton dénuées de tout, sauf d'une clôture qui en bloquait l'accès. Aucun panneau ou affiche indiquant le projet...
C'est resté comme çà plusieurs années. Je me disais qu'il devait y avoir eu une faillite du promoteur, ou quelques causes du genre pour expliquer ces ruines pré-naissantes... Puis il y a 1-2 ans, ne vois-je tu pas une structure d'acier prendre assises sur les solages esseulés! Le secteur étant industriel, il me semblait évident qu'une nouvelle industrie, donc, allait s'y installer (enfin)! Puis, plus rien encore une fois! Le squelette ne prend pas forme.
Cet après-midi, surprise: une des portes du chantier est ouverte... c'est le moment d’aller y jeter un coup d’œil! Personne sur les lieux, Clic-Clic, Clic-Clic; il faut en profiter! Après avoir fait presque tout le tour de l'éléphant blanc, je me retrouve face à la devanture et [chants de chorale d'Anges et de trompettes célestes] la réponses à mes interrogations se pointe au sommet du tas de ferraille structurée: la croix est dressée...

Paolo #Soleri settled in Paradise Valley, #Arizona in 1955. On the 5-acre plot where he made his home, he began building #experimental #dwellings using unique and innovative #building techniques. Called #Cosanti, Soleri’s former studios and home is recognized as an Arizona Historic Site. Using an earth-casting method where concrete was poured over the #earth, taking its shape from the contours of the #land, Soleri created the unique and provocative structures and dwellings at Cosanti. Sometimes, #soil was intentionally mounded or colored with added cement pigments. Once the concrete had cured, the soil was excavated out from the #concrete shell. Evocative of Grecian and Egyptian #structures from the ancient world, or alluding to those seen in movies set in a time long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away, Cosanti’s experimental architecture has a beguiling otherworldliness.
Where most builders today would build a building from the ground up, Soleri built his structures from the roof down. Many of Soleri’s structures at Cosanti are built below ground level and surrounded by mounds of earth, acting as natural insulation to better moderate the dwellings’ interior temperatures. The Dome House (1949) in Cave Creek Arizona was the first of Soleri’s semi-subterranean projects.

Log Home Builders Association ( #LHBA) teaches you how to use #logs that almost all other #builders would reject. Here's my buddy pulling some logs out of a pile I had my neighbor make while clearing his driveway. My friend is going to build a 20x20 #hunting #cabin on his property with them. The excavator operator THANKED ME for saving him the money he would have to spend to dump these logs at the #landfill. You can see my cabin in the background - I got my logs the same way (well - I had to cut them myself, but still....)
