Someone observed the #DEA wallet send a small test transaction before transferring the remaining seized funds, and quickly used a crypto wallet address with identical characters at the beginning and end to send an airdrop to the DEA source wallet. When the DEA agent went to send the remaining funds, they copied-and-pasted the address, believing it was the same one they'd sent the test transaction to. This is a common scam in the crypto world known as "address poisoning", and is successful primarily because crypto wallet addresses are very long strings of characters that people usually copy-and-paste, and only identify by the characters at the start and end.

The US Congress held a hearing titled “Dollar Dominance: Preserving the U.S. Dollar’s Status as the Global Reserve Currency”, as countries around the world join the de-dollarization rebellion against Washington’s “exorbitant privilege”.
Michael Faulkender, who served as Donald #Trump’s assistant secretary of the àTreasury for economic policy, declared in the session, “As assistant secretary, I told my team that the Treasury secretary proudly states that the dollar will never not be the world’s reserve currency, and our job is to make sure that’s true”.
Also present in the hearing was Daniel McDowell, an associate professor in the political science department at Syracuse University in New York, and author of the book “Bucking the Buck: US Financial Sanctions and the International Backlash Against the #Dollar”.
McDowell argued that, by imposing more and more sanctions on countries around the world, Washington is actually weakening the dominance of the dollar.
The US has sanctions on nations that represent more than one-third of the global population and 29% of the world’s GDP.
The two-hour hearing did not address possible plans for the BRICS bloc to create a new international reserve currency. Instead, the participants only spoke of existing national currencies like the Chinese renminbi, Russian ruble, or euro as potential challengers to the US dollar – while ultimately dismissing all of them.
The idea that BRICS could develop an international currency (similar to John Maynard Keynes’ idea of the Bancor) was not even raised as a possibility.

De-dollarization is apparently here, “like it or not,” as a May 2023 video by the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, a peace-oriented think tank based in Washington, D.C., states.
Until recently, the global economy accepted the U.S. #dollar as the world’s reserve #currency and the currency of #international #transactions. The central banks of Europe and Asia had an insatiable appetite for dollar-denominated U.S. #Treasury securities, which in turn bestowed on #Washington the ability to spend money and finance its debt at will. Should any country step out of line politically or militarily, Washington could sanction it, excluding it from the rest of the world’s dollar-denominated system of global trade.
But for how long? After a summit meeting in March between #Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and China’s President Xi #Jinping, #Putin stated, “We are in favor of using the Chinese yuan for settlements between Russia and the countries of #Asia, #Africa, and #LatinAmerica.” Putting that statement in perspective, CNN’s Fareed Zakaria said, “The world’s second-largest economy and its largest energy exporter are together actively trying to dent the dollar’s dominance as the anchor of the international financial system.” Already, Zakaria noted, Russia and China are holding less of their central bank reserves in dollars and settling most of their trade in yuan, while other countries sanctioned by the United States are turning to “barter trade” to avoid dependence on the dollar.
Quincy is not alone in discussing #de_dollarization.

Unter dem Zeitdruck der Börsenöffnungen in Japan nach dem Wochenende hat sich die Credit Suisse, eine der beiden Großbanken der Schweiz heute Nacht selbst aufgegeben und lässt sich für 3 Milliarden CHF weit unter Wert von der UBS übernehmen. Auch die UBS hat sich den Deal nicht leicht gemacht. Man weiß ja nicht, was noch kommt ...
Damit wird die UBS zur weltweit drittgrößten Bank in der westlichen Welt und in der Schweiz bleibt nur noch eine Großbank übrig. In Deutschland werden Deutsche Bank und Commerzbank als systemrelevante Großbanken gezählt. Ähm, hat die Commerzbank eigentlich ihre Schulden aus der Bankenkrise 2008 schon vollständig zurückgezahlt. Das waren so viele Milliarden, als wenn theoretisch jede/r Bundesbürger/in vom Säugling bis zum Greis zwei Commerzbankaktien besitzen würde.
Nun besitzt also die UBS Kundeneinlagen im Wert von 3,4 Billionen $ und der Schweizer Staat bürgt für 100 Milliarden CHF eventuelle weitere Ausfälle bei den Konten der ehemaligen Credit Suisse. Wir erleben nach den Zusammenbrüchen der einen mittelgroßen US Bank - Silicon Valley Bank und 2 weiterer Kleinbanken ein ähnliches Szenario wie bei der Finanzkrise 2008, vor der wir nach allen Beteuerungen der Politiker durch ihre Vorsorge geschützt sein sollten.
Für die USA muss man allerdings einräumen, dass Präsident Trump diese Vorsorge durch seine Maßnahmen ins Gegenteil verkehrt hatte - und Präsident Biden versucht das auch erst jetzt wieder zu korrigieren. Für die EU und insbesondere den angeblich "sicheren Geldhafen Schweiz" lässt sich schwer eine Vorhersage treffen.
Schuld bei der Credit Suisse an den "Unsicherheiten" und dem mangelnden Vertrauen der Anleger liegen in der starken Ausweitung des Investmentbankings insbesondere durch den Einfluss arabischer Geldhäuser und Miteigentümer. Über die grundsätzlichen Gefahren einer neuen Finanzkrise durch den völlig "überhitzten" Immobilienmarkt in den letzten Jahren wollen wir erst gar nicht spekulieren.
Die Frage ist aber, ob hier nicht auch die Sanktionspolitik in der Folge des Ukrainekriegs eine Rolle spielt. Viele Geschäfte spielen sich dadurch insbesondere in Indien, den arabischen Staaten und in China inzwischen nicht mehr in US Dollar ab. Das gilt für Russland und den Iran sogar fast vollständig.
Klar ist natürlich auch, dass bei einer 2. Finanzkrise wieder einmal die Menschen die Leidtragenden sein werden. Wir zitieren nur mal die zusätzlichen Krebstoten: Die Finanzkrise hat der britischen Studie zufolge zwischen 2008 und 2010 weltweit zum Tod von 500'000 Menschen durch Krebs beigetragen. Die Hungertoten im globalen Süden hat leider niemand gezählt ...
