Dies berichtet das US-Magazin Time.

Googling the question "How much has Google invested in AI?" that same AI, now baked into the search engine, reports that "In April 2024, Google CEO Demis Hassabis said that Google would spend more than $100 billion." Direct cut and paste, dear reader. This will come as news to Google's actual CEO, Sundar Pichai.

my commentary on the fake indian Pocahantas #Warren's comments.

during the #covid #plannedemic shutdowns (which YOU supported, Lizzy),
big #corporations (which donate to YOUR re-election)
with no #competition (due to YOUR heavy #taxes and #regulations which cut out the little guy from competition)
raised prices because they could (because YOU've been asleep at the antitrust wheel), as well as raising prices because you shut down all the supply lines, moved our manufacturing overseas, and now America can't even make a pair of socks, let alone bacon.

How'd we end up with these #megacorps besides through YOU turning a blind eye to their excesses because they donated to your campaign? yes: some of us can still #followthemoney. #Google, #Facebook, #Amazon, #UofC are YOUR donors - not Jim's Grocery or a small gas station. YOU say you're against #BigCorp - but you really just want to pick the winning BigCorp.

Now you want to swoop in with your government power and tell the BigCorp donors that didn't donate to your campaign how much they can charge ALL the time, instead of just in a freak plannedemic that you caused?

no.

MORE government is NEVER the answer. LESS government is ALWAYS the answer.

https://mastodon.laurenweinstein.org/@lauren/113006857149212121 lauren@mastodon.laurenweinstein.org - In a slap in the face to users, #Google says it will not fix Chrome for older Linux systems. For backstory see:

https://mastodon.laurenweinstein.org/@lauren/113005994244041783

This despite their own support page noting that they are supported. They also say this was not an accident and that they did this intentionally despite total lack of warning to users.

MORE:

Showing a level of disdain for users that is remarkable even for Google, Google now says they will NOT fix Chrome that has suddenly been broken without warning (Chrome Stable 128) for older Linux systems, despite their own support page saying those systems are supported, with no mention of current or future deprecation, as of this morning.

It is also worth noting that arguments suggesting one should expect Chrome to stop working when an OS goes End Of Life (absent extended support) are invalidated by Google's own actions. For example, they kept updating Chrome for Windows 7 -- LONG end of life -- until relatively quite recently, and warned of the upcoming end of support for Chrome on Win7 long in advance of that date.

This situation is absolutely shameful.

What the fuck happened to the old, good internet?\
\
I mean, sure, our bosses were a little surveillance-happy, and they were usually up for sharing their data with the NSA, and whenever there was a tossup between user security and growth, it was always YOLO time.\
\
But Google Search used to work. Facebook used to show you posts from people you followed. Uber used to be cheaper than a taxi and pay the driver more than a cabbie made. Amazon used to sell products, not Shein-grade self-destructing dropshipped garbage from all-consonant brands. Apple used to defend your privacy, rather than spying on you with your no-modifications-allowed Iphone.\
\
There was a time when you searching for an album on Spotify would get you that album – not a playlist of insipid AI-generated covers with the same name and art.\
\
Microsoft used to sell you software – sure, it was buggy – but now they just let you access apps in the cloud, so they can watch how you use those apps and strip the features you use the most out of the basic tier and turn them into an upcharge.\
\
What – and I cannot stress this enough – the fuck happened?!\
\
I’m talking about enshittification.
