465 documented cases of Russia using chemical weapons in Ukraine since Feb. 24, 2022

Russian forces are increasing their use of chemical weapons in Ukraine, with 81 cases documented only in December, according to the General Staff.

Most often, Russia reportedly uses grenades, such as #K-51, #RGR, and #Drofa-PM, dropping them from attack drones.

"However, improvised explosive devices equipped with irritant substances are also used. Artillery shelling using chemically dangerous substances is also carried out," the General Staff wrote.

Ukraine's military recorded on Dec. 14 Russia's use of a new type of special #RG-VO gas grenades containing an unknown chemical substance.

Russian naval infantry units have recently confirmed they are using prohibited chemical weapons in the village of #Krynky

Christmas on the front line (PHOTOS)

Amidst Russia's continued aggression against Ukraine, numerous Ukrainian men and women are spending #Christmas on the #FrontLines, far from their homes and loved ones.

Many of them, previously having civilian lives, are now adapting to the challenges of serving in the military.

Valentyn Kuzan, a photographer newly enlisted in the 72nd Mechanized Brigade, offers insight into this reality. He has joined Chaplain Ivan while he visited soldiers along the front line in Donetsk Oblast on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24.

Russia hits third humanitarian aid base in Kherson in 5 days

Russian forces struck a third humanitarian aid center in #Kherson within five days, the head of the emergency response unit for the Ukrainian #RedCross in Kherson Oblast Mykola Taranenko said in a comment to Hromadske radio on Dec. 25.

Taranenko also referenced the overnight Russian strike on Dec. 20, which "completely destoryed" the humanitarian aid facility ran by the Ukrainian Red Cross in Kherson Oblast and its resources inside.

"They [Russian forces] targeted the storage facilities of other organizations twice, but very recently they hit our humanitarian aid facility, the Red Cross facility," said Taranenko.

How Russia’s succession problem makes its future uncertain

The regime’s problem might not be that it has no successor to Putin, but that there are many pretenders who would like his post – or at least to be members of a new collective leadership. Sooner or later, Russia’s succession problem will come to the fore and Putin’s subversion of Russia’s institutions, including the presidency itself, for the past 23 years will be recognized as a liability.

UN records 142 cases of Russia summarily executing Ukrainian civilians

Russia's suspected violations in Ukraine include 142 summary executions of Ukrainian civilians in occupied territories by Russian troops since the start of the full-scale invasion, UN human rights chief Volker Turk said on Dec. 19.

The numbers that the UN regularly provides on casualties of Russia's war against Ukraine include only cases that could be safely verified, and actual figures are most likely higher.

ICC prosecutor says Israel must respect international law

AMSTERDAM, Dec 3 (Reuters) - The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Sunday called on Israel to respect the international rules of war and said he was accelerating his investigation into violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

"In Gaza, there is no justification for doctors to perform operations without light, for children to be operated upon without anaesthetics. Imagine the pain," ICC prosecutor Karim Khan said in a video message posted online after a four-day visit to Israel and the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank.

"I was crystal clear, that this is the time to comply with the law. If Israel doesn't comply now, they shouldn't complain later."

Israel has vowed to annihilate Hamas and says its aim in Gaza is to destroy targets linked to the group, while urging civilians to leave those areas. The Iranian-backed Hamas is meanwhile sworn to Israel's destruction.

Khan also called on Hamas to respect the rules of war and to not misuse any humanitarian aid that is brought into the besieged Gaza strip.

"Civilians must have access to basic food, water and desperately needed medical supplies, without further delay, and at pace and at scale."

The ICC prosecutor said atrocities committed by Hamas on Oct. 7 were "some of the most serious international crimes that shock the conscience of humanity," and said his court was ready to assist Israel in investigating them and prosecuting those responsible.

At the same time, he said violence by settlers in the West Bank was "unacceptable" and could also not go unpunished.

"We have been investigating and we are accelerating investigations," he said of the situation in the West Bank.

"No Israeli settler armed with an ideology and a gun can think it's open season against Palestinians."

Israel is not a member of the Hague-based court and does not recognise its jurisdiction. But Khan in October stressed his court had jurisdiction over potential war crimes carried out by Hamas militants in Israel and by Israelis in the Gaza Strip.

The ICC has had an ongoing investigation in the occupied Palestinian territories into possible war crimes and crimes against humanity there since 2021.

Accusations of war crimes and human rights abuses have been made on both sides since Hamas gunmen overran several Israeli communities on Oct. 7, killing more than 1,200 Israelis and seizing around 240 hostages, according to Israeli tallies.

In response, Israel launched air strikes and an invasion by tanks and ground troops in the enclave, killing more than 15,000 Gazans, according to Palestinian health authorities.
