Japanese orgs now paying salaries direct into e-wallets

Smartphone screen showing a red logo with letter P on it and a name PayPay next to it. Below is the text Great deals and convenience in everyday life!
Ten subsidiaries of Japanese tech conglomerate SoftBank Group have begun paying employees’ salaries into SoftBank’s own PayPay digital wallet.

PayPay is the largest mobile payment app in Japan and is owned by LY Corporation – a Softbank subsidiary.

“This initiative aims to enhance payment of employee benefits by increasing salary options and to promote the expansion of the PayPay economic sphere across the entire group,” explained the fintech business back in August, when it announced it would eventually issue digital salary payments.

This is quite interesting as we often needed banks in the earlier days if “credits” needed to be transferred to employees, but with digital wallets this could actually be directly done. The big thing to ensure is that such digital wallets can be easily used to purchase any services or pay for anything that needs to be paid for. And, yes, provision needs to be made for any problems experienced with a digital wallet.

It’s an interesting development though to watch.

#Kafkaesque: Starling Bank blocks cash transfer & froze their account

An Edinburgh academic has accused #Starling bank’s fraud team of behaving like officers in a police state after they repeatedly refused to allow him to send a €15,000 (£12,800) payment to a friend in Austria, then froze his account when he complained about their “absurd demands”.

When he told the #bank that he considered its demands a gross invasion of both his and his friend’s #privacy (and likely data rules) and totally disproportionate in the circumstances, he says it still refused to transfer the money. The staff could have told him the payment was at his own risk, but wouldn’t.

The final indignity came when he said he was so fed up with his treatment that he wished to close his account: the bank announced it had shut him out of it.

I wonder if all the Beijing thinks all its saber-rattling around and over Taiwan is going to change chip ops there. Okay, Xi, bomb the snot out of TSMC and see how many chips THAT will give Russia.

#Jurisdiction. Juris law, diction = words. The words you use determine the law you are under. #Common-law is written in a #common #language so that it is easily understood by the common #people.

#Legalese, referred to as "Words of art", is a language created in the bowels of #hell to #trap and #ensnare the #unsuspecting #individual into #contract-law. It is intentionally #difficult for the common individual to understand, with the words being used having meanings which are vastly different than in common usage. The #etymological #root #meaning of the words have not been changed in law, they cannot change without losing their ability to bind.

They have been #hidden from the common individual through the implementation of slang, the bastardization of common language, and the revision of common language dictionaries. Moreover, use of the Words of Art is a #dark #occult practice and a form of #black #magick carried out by the lieutenants and #High #Priests of #Baal, these being the #attorneys and #judges of the #Bar.

Stop the UK Government from spying on all of our bank accounts

Petition

The Government is sneaking in new powers to spy on all of our bank accounts on the premise of dealing with welfare fraud and error.

It will force banks to flag people who meet secret criteria to the government.

Everyone wants fraudulent uses of public money to be dealt with, and the government already has strong powers to check the bank statements of suspects.

But this is a major expansion of government power that takes away our financial privacy like never before and does away with the presumption of innocence - the democratic principle that you shouldn't be spied on unless police suspect you of wrongdoing.

Barclays cut my expat mother off from vital care home funds

Another Brexit Failure ...

#Barclays has form when it comes to cutting elderly widows off from their money. The reasons for the closures differ, but the underlying incompetence and insouciance are disturbingly similar.

Your mother fell victim to EU rules which, post-Brexit, require UK banks to apply for separate licences to serve customers in each EU country.

To save themselves the hassle and cost, many banks simply closed expats’ accounts. Barclays shut the last of its in December.

There is a set process for claiming the balance from a defunct account, but a succession of errors stymied your efforts. First you were told that the account was dormant, rather than closed. This meant you were directed to follow the wrong process, which got you nowhere.

Next, branch staff failed to acknowledge your LPA documents, which meant your mother was put through the stress of signing a letter of authority.

Barclays only admitted these blunders after I got in touch and it took a media prod to get it to release the funds

Google Wallet will soon let phones without NFC (budget phones) make in-store payments with QR codes

Point-Of-Sale terminal showing a QR code onscreen
The feature will launch in Brazil first, allowing Android users to pay through their debit or credit card by scanning a QR code displayed on the payment terminal. Since most smartphones in Brazil do not ship with NFC, adding QR code support for payments will help Wallet expand its reach.

The GPay app available in India already allows users to pay by scanning a QR code. So, Google is essentially bringing a GPay functionality to Wallet, which should hopefully expand to other countries sooner than later.

I did notice in South Africa some banks also offer QR code payments via their own banking app. But it is good news as it does help reach those who cannot afford to pay for high-end phones, and then they miss out on contactless, and cashless, payments.

Was für Fucker. Wie gehts euch damit? Beschwert euch bitte, wenn ihr auch da seid. Oder bei ner anderen Bank die sowas macht. Gibts nicht irgendeine Behörde die den Banken das untersagen kann?

I've been using Revolut since their early days, but I'm afraid it's time to find an alternative!

The company started so good, 60 euro per year for advanced membership including 2 cards for my kids so I could send them money without ridiculous bank transfer fees.

The amount keep increasing, the service keeps getting worse. And ever since Brexit it keeps getting even worse and now they charge everytime my kids use their cards like all stupid French banks. Their fees are still lower than any french bank, but it adds up to a level that is no longer worth it.

Specially since their exchange rate is no longer as good as it used to be.

Have to find an alternative that allows me to have 2 card for my kids and ability to send monthly payment to them without ridiculous fees.

I really really really hate this shit. They have the right to change the terms and conditions at any time without any chance to stay with the options I signed up for.
