Om regler och principer - On rules and principles in Taijiquan
English below.
Rules can have exceptions. Principles have no exceptions. If you deviate from the principle, you simply do something else.
This is because rules are contextual, they have a concrete existence. Principles are by nature abstract, free from context. When you study Taijiquan, you have many rules to follow. Following them is important in order to study Taijiquan. If you follow the rules, you have a chance to understand the principles. But we first understand things in their concrete context (psychological jargon in English = framing). In order to abstract the principles (deframing), we need to change the context (reframing). To understand what to do in the new context, we need to follow rules again. We may need to do many reframings before we can get to deframing. Nevertheless, we must try to apply the principles as we understand them in each context. If it is important to follow the rules in one's training, it is essential to try to apply the principles.
Taijiquan is a martial art. In combat, it is a clear disadvantage to be predictable. If you can only act according to rules, you become predictable. Therefore, you must understand the principles in your body, so that you can improvise in the moment and do the unexpected. When we understand the principles so well, they can be practised with just a single moment from the form (or opening and closing).
To help us understand the principles, we have the classical Taiji scriptures and the Daoist document DaoDeJing. There we can read that learning means adding things while approaching Dao means subtracting things. Studying Taijiquan involves this two-way process: adding means following the rules (framing) and reframing. Approaching the Dao is deframing.

The Future Of Ideas - THE FATE OF THE COMMONS IN A CONNECTED WORLD
Aaron Swartz and Lessing
at the launch party for Creative Commons (2002)
"The Internet revolution has come. Some say it has gone.
What was responsible for its birth?
Who is responsible for its demise?"
"In The Future of Ideas, Lawrence Lessig explains how the Internet revolution has produced a counterrevolution of devastating power and effect.
The explosion of innovation we have seen in the environment of the Internet was not conjured from some new, previously unimagined technological magic; instead, it came from an ideal as old as the nation.
Creativity flourished there because the Internet protected an innovation commons. The Internet's very design built a neutral platform upon which the widest range of creators could experiment. The legal architecture surrounding it protected this free space so that culture and information - the ideas of our era - could flow freely and inspire an unprecedented breadth of expression.
But this structural design is changing - both legally and technically."
"This shift will destroy the opportunities for creativity and innovation that the Internet originally engendered.
The cultural dinosaurs of our recent past are moving to quickly remake cyberspace so that they can better protect their interests against the future.
Powerful forces are swiftly using both law and technology to "tame" the internet, transforming it from an open forum for ideas into nothing more than cable television on speed.
Innovation, once again, will be directed from the top down, increasingly controlled by owners of the networks, holders of the largest patent portfolios, and, most invidiously, hoarders of copyrights." — https://archive.org/details/TheFutureOfIdeas/page/n1/mode/2up

Until now, my #utopia was based on all humans becoming artists and dedicating themselves to art, while AI does the boring monotonous work for us.
However, today's AI is already busy generating images and imitating art styles. A new generation is now growing up that is getting inspiration from AI and in the future it will hardly be possible to say how much of a piece of art contains AI. Just as the new generation has forgotten how to read maps because of navigation apps, there is a danger that humanity will forget how to be creative and create new art.

Generative A.I. is the latest in a long line of innovations to put pressure on our already dysfunctional #copyright #system.
People loved the A.I.-generated version of #JohnnyCash singing a #TaylorSwift #song, which was posted online last year by a person in Texas named Dustin Ballard. But who owns it? Could Taylor Swift sue? Probably not, since it’s a cover. Does the Cash estate have an ownership claim? Not necessarily, since you can’t copyright a style or a voice. Dustin Ballard? He neither composed nor performed the song. No one? Does it belong to all the world?

A quotation from Hazlitt, William
It is erroneous to tie down individual genius to ideal models. Each person should do that, not which is best in itself, even supposing this coudl be known, but that which he can do best, which he will find out if left to himself. Spenser could not have written Paradise Lost, nor Milton the Faerie Queene. Those who aim at faultless regularity will only produce mediocrity, and no one ever approaches perfection except by stealth, and unknown to themselves.

I hope you will have a wonderful year, that you’ll dream dangerously and outrageously, that you’ll make something that didn’t exist before you made it, that you will be loved and that you will be liked, and that you will have people to love and to like in return. And, most importantly (because I think there should be more kindness and more wisdom in the world right now), that you will, when you need to be, be wise, and that you will always be kind.

Still Life with Two Dead Peacocks and a Girl
by Diane Seuss
She comes out of the dark seeking pie, but instead finds two dead peacocks.
One is strung up by its feet. The other lies on its side in a pool
of its own blood. The girl is burdened with curly bangs. A too-small cap.
She wanted pie, not these beautiful birds. Not a small, dusky apple
from a basket of dusky apples. Reach in. Choose a dusky apple.
She sleepwalked to this window, her body led by its hunger for pie.
Instead, this dead beauty, gratuitous. Scalloped green feathers. Gold breast.
Iridescent-eyed plumage, supine on the table. Two gaudy crowns.
She rests her elbows on the stone windowsill. Why not pluck a feather?
Why lean against the gold house of the rich and stare at the bird’s dead eye?
The girl must pull the heavy bird into the night and run off with it.
Build a fire on the riverbank. Tear away the beautiful feathers.
Suck scorched, tough, dark meat off of hollow bones. Look at her, ready to reach.
She’d hoped for pie. Meringue beaded gold. Art, useless as tits on a boar.
