Over 600 cities in #Italy have passed resolutions to #halt #5G, as have cities throughout Europe, such as #Trafford, #UnitedKingdom, #Lille, #France ,Ormidia, #Cyprus, Balchik, #Bulgaria.

The Pancyprian Medical Association and Cyprus National Committee on the Environment and Child Health sent Parliament their position paper “The Risks to Public Health from the Use of the 5G Network.” #Bermuda has halted 5G pending a report on safety and hosted a 2020 Consultation. #Switzerland’s report on 5G #health effects resulted in the Parliament’s refusal to loosen their #radiation limits despite heavy industry lobbying efforts.

The #Netherlands 🇳🇱 issued a 5G report that recommended measuring radiation levels and also recommended against using the 26 GHz frequency band for 5G “for as long as the potential health risks have not been investigated.”

Given the politics in the eastern Med, Cyprus is very important.
It is an island divided into three parts - the Republic of Cyprus, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the British Overseas Territory of Akrotiri and Dhekelia - which, like Gibraltar, is military.
One heard (in the now defunct Guardian site "Talk Unlimited") that It was used to train the rebels for the Syrian war,
Interesting times.

#Israel may be about to export its workhorse #Merkava tank for the first time.

Reports say Israel is in talks to sell the tank to a European and a Middle Eastern country.

The European nation in question is actually #Cyprus, according to Israeli newspaper #Haaretz, which in June cited an unnamed Cypriot official who said negotiations are underway. The Arab nation is #Morocco, Spanish outlet El Espanol reported this month.

Exporting the Merkava raises sensitive political issues. For Morocco, acquiring an Israeli tank would be a highly visible symbol of its relatively cordial relationship with Israel. Morocco is also fighting #Polisario insurgents, who are backed by neighboring Algeria, in the Western #Sahara. This raises the possibility of one Arab state employing Israeli arms against another.

With Cyprus, Israel would be selling tanks to a nation that has tense relations with #Turkey, which invaded the northern half of Cyprus in 1974. Relations between Israel and the government of Turkish President Recep #Erdogan are often contentious. (The US ending its longstanding arms embargo on Cyprus in 2022 also triggered speculation that Cyprus' Russian-made arms could go to #Ukraine.)

Nonetheless, the timing is propitious for Israel. #Russia's invasion of Ukraine has spurred Europe to rearm its depleted militaries. Eastern European nations are sending many of their aging #Soviet- and Russian-designed tanks to the Ukrainians, which means the donors will be shopping for affordable replacements — likely older tanks with a non-Russian design.

The question is whether Israel will sell Merkavas to Ukraine. For now, the answer is no. Israel is wary of antagonizing Russia, for fear that Russian forces in #Syria will interfere with Israel's airstrikes against Iranian and #Hezbollah targets there. Russia can also send advanced weapons, particularly S-400 anti-aircraft missiles, to Israel's arch-enemy, #Iran.

Being far from Western democratic standards, #Azerbaijan is regularly criticised by the #EuropeanUnion and the United States. And yet the hands of the #West are tied. The reason is that Azerbaijan is one of the very few gas suppliers that can help #Europe to reduce its dependence on #Gazprom at least to some extent, even if not completely. The TAP pipeline brings Azerbaijan’s natural gas to the Adriatic coast of #Italy, and the volume of supplies through this pipeline is going to double.
#Armenia also has good relations with the West: it signed an association agreement with the #EU under Serzh Sargsyan (the provisions that irritated #Russia were allegedly removed from the text) and has been successfully participating in the Eastern Partnership programme. Armenia is particularly close to European rivals of #Turkey: #France, #Greece and #Cyprus. All this results in a concoction that seems rather bizarre nowadays: the country feels equally comfortable with Sputnik and Radio Liberty, with radically pro-Russian and pro-Western players being active in the political arena (the latter accusing Russia of aggression against #Ukraine).

Mutual hostility is nothing new in Turkish-Greek relations. Acts of provocation, as well as outright #conflict, have long beset ties between the two states. However, as the #war in #Ukraine began, there were some indications that tensions between #Ankara and #Athens had eased. In the middle of March, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis journeyed to #Istanbul to meet face-to-face with Turkish President Recep Tayyip #Erdogan. The tone of the meeting, according to #media reports, was positive and constructive. Both leaders emphasized that the war to the north provided the basis for the visit. In a statement prepared by Erdogan’s communications directorate, it was agreed that “Turkey and #Greece have a special responsibility in the European #security architecture which has changed with #Russia’s attack on Ukraine.” Mitsotakis and Erdogan concurred that it was important for both countries to find avenues of cooperation and “focus on positive agendas” that benefited both nations.
Since the meeting in Istanbul, however, relations between Greece and #Turkey have deteriorated rapidly. Toward the end of April 2022, Athens decried what it characterized as an “unprecedented” number of airspace violations by armed Turkish aircraft over Greece’s Aegean islands. During an official visit to #Washington, Mitsotakis cited Turkey’s behavior in lobbying Congress to oppose the sale of F-16s to Ankara. Erdogan responded by stating that he no longer “recognizes” Greece’s prime minister, thus ending the possibility of future direct talks. More ominously, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu issued a statement accusing Athens of unlawfully “militarizing” its territories in the Aegean Sea. Should Greece refuse to “demilitarize” its Aegean islands, Cavusoglu warned that Greek sovereignty over its territories would be considered “debatable.”
