Peter Daszak is President of EcoHealth Alliance, who received $3.7 million over 5 years from NIH to find and study bat coronaviruses related to SARS-CoV, which causes severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), the disease that nearly triggered a pandemic in 2003. During the first 5 years of the grant, EcoHealth had sent roughly 16% of the funds to the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV).
