Immunité partout, humanité nulle part !

La principale critique que je forme envers nos technologies quotidiennes est qu’elles conjurent l’altérité. Elles sont construites pour fabriquer de l’identique. Home est son biotope : le petit chez-moi, familier, le cocooné, le confortable, le cajolé. Sauf que cette vision, et les pratiques de rejet qui l’accompagnent nécessairement, sont d’une grande violence pour les gens qui n’ont pas la possibilité de bénéficier de ce technococon égocentré.

Je pense qu’il faut construire des alternatives, proposer d’autres façons d’exister, de s’alimenter, d’habiter. Puis de montrer que ça marche et surtout que ça nous rend heureux et libre. Il faut battre le capitalisme sur le terrain du désir.

C’est extrêmement difficile parce que le technocapitalisme est fondé sur l’accomplissement de désirs individuels et immédiats. Je détaille dans mes chroniques ces quatre machineries de désir très puissantes que le #technocapital active : la paresse plaisante, le pouvoir octroyé, la conjuration des peurs et des incertitudes et l’imaginaire du transhumain, cet antique désir « d’être dieu », d’échapper à notre finitude. Il faut ressusciter un désir qui fasse pièce à cette économie de désir qu’accomplit magistralement la #consommation numérique. C’est un sacré défi, c’est un sacré combat.

On ne changera pas ce monde fondé sur les désirs individualisés et les échanges immatériels sans expérimenter en collectif, éprouver d’autres modes de vie qui destituent les effets de pouvoir, s’alimenter en bio, local et frais, trouver une autonomie énergétique, pratiquer le low-tech qui t’empuissante dans ton rapport à la techno, etc. Et surtout sans réactiver des liens au monde, au vivant et aux autres, qui te rendent plus vaste, plus joyeux et plus vif. On a besoin de lieux, d’espaces concrets pour ça et de pratiques incarnées, on a besoin de créer aussi, sans cesse, pour déjouer les machines de pouvoir qui nous pilotent.

Je trouve l’idée de « zone » très forte. Il ne s’agit ni d’un domaine clos, ni d’une communauté autarcique, ni seulement d’un habitat partagé. C’est plus ouvert, c’est-à-dire qu’il n’y a pas de frontières, ça rayonne et s’étend.

Two weeks ago, #OpenAI deleted it's ban on using #ChatGPT for "Military and Warfare" and revealed, that it's working with the military on "cybersecurity tools". It's clear to me that the darlings of generative AI want in on the wargames, and i'm very confident they are not the only ones. With ever more international conflicts turning hot, from Israels war on Hamas after the massacre on 7th october to Russias invasion of Ukraine to local conflicts like the Houthis attacking US trade ships with drones and the US retaliating, plus the competetive pressure from China, who surely have their own versions of AI-powered automated weapon systems in place, i absolutely think that automatic war pipelines are in high demand from many many international players with very very deep pockets, and #SiliconValley seems more than eager to exploit.

Initially, the first half of the first episode starts like a teeny high school drama. You have to sit through it if you don't want to see something like that, because in the end it's all about the big world conspiracy.

The ethical questions that are addressed include:
1) Can poor people be abused as experimental subjects?
2) If you can only upload a brain to the cloud by destroying it, should you do so anyway?
3) What rights does a human #consciousness have in the cloud that can simply be reset or switched off?
4) If an AI escapes from a protected cloud to the internet, what should you do?
5) Can you copy a human consciousness, dissect it and then ultimately only use the parts you need to solve the problem?
6) Can consciousness in the cloud still be considered human?
7) Should we do everything that is technologically possible or should we be aware of the ethical problems before doing so?
8) ...

I find the series highly topical because ultimately the tech billionaires in #SiliconValley are dreaming of this opportunity and are researching it in order to become immortal. Elon #Musk's company #Neuralink is working on #brain implants that will make it possible to upload in the #future.

The series is about a group of nerds creating a startup around a compression algorithm they developed. It is mentioned several times that compression is lossless and applicable to everything. Such a thing is not mathematically possible. It's a comedy series, so clichés are used and characters are exaggerated so their weaknesses can be used for jokes. Putting the fun aside, you still get a good insight into how hard it is to get funding even with a brilliant idea. Competitors try to copy your business model or hostilely take over your company. Of course, I can understand the fascination of being #CEO of your own company and that many people want to become like their role model Steve Jobs. However, for 99% of all nerds, the position of #CTO is much better suited and more in line with their skills. In the Incubator, for example, there is a Chinese man at the beginning with absurd ideas for an app, who then develops into a mafia boss over the course of the seasons. Well shown when you look behind the comedy though is the stress and the many failures and product changes you have to endure on the way up.
