My time on #Diaspora has been short, but very educational for me. I discovered #libre-software and #Linux because of @grin ✅ and others who encouraged me. I have learned some #history here and gotten some good friendly advice about #college and what to expect the #future to be like for kids my age.
It hasn't been all good, though. One religious #bigot treats everyone who doesn't share his copy-and-pasted opinions and beliefs pissed me off enough for me to block him. I also have to block a lot of #porn here (not tagged as #NSFW) which surprised me, and a gazillion posts every day about #politics. There's a LOT of #bias, most people have already made up their minds about things and are not willing to answer questions from some dumb kid who wandered in here. There are some great exceptions, of course, like @Muse and @Ji Fu and others, but most of the time I get the "go away, kid, you bother me" vibe. I haven't found any others my age here either, which is another surprise. But maybe it shouldn't be, I guess.
While I'm on break from school maybe I'll look at some of the other #fediverse platforms to see if they're different. And maybe if kids are welcome and actually do stuff besides the usual "Hey look at me" stuff they do on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and every other platform that doesn't respect our privacy.

I have been concerned about political articles on #Wikipedia and how they effect people reading them
From what i've seen the #bias in them is so obvious and common that i don't put any value in what they say at this point and i've stopped reading them. (In areas that are not connected with politics or economic interests i sometimes use Wikipedia though)
In my view wikipedia
* reflects #corporate/mainstream #western #narratives and #propaganda (which comes with problems described by #Chomsky and #Herman in their work on the #PropagandaModel)
* uses language that mixes #facts and #evaluations (ex using the term "conspiracy theory"), and in that way communicates to the user what they "should" believe
(The first issue is something that you would see in a normal encyclopedia, but the second issue is unique to Wikipedia in my experience. A normal #encyclopedia would be more objective in their descriptions)
Meine Frau nölt, dass nicht der Radsport, sondern Fußball die Medien beherrsche, auch bei den Frauen, auch wenn die schon frühzeitig rausfliegen. Die Radsportlerinnen hingegen fahren derzeit einen Titel nach dem anderen ein, aber keine Sau (sorry, auch keinen Eber) interessiert's.
WIr schauen uns gerne Berichte der Tour de France an, primär, wenn eine Etappe durch Regionen oder Ortschaften führt, die wir vom Radfahren kennen (s.w.u.) oder vielleicht kennenlernen wollen. Ich interessiere mich darüberhinaus überhaupt nicht für Sport, auch nicht für Radsport, ausser als Ideengeber für Fahrrad- und Fahrtechnik für den Alltagsgebrauch, meine Frau ein bißchen auch für den Radsport, als Zuschauer. Mir reicht's so schon, dass ein großer Teil meiner "Gebühren" für Sportberichterstattung ausgegeben wird, für das ich keinen Cent bezahlen würde.
Die Übertragung der Tour de France Femmes ist diesbezüglich noch etwas abgespeckter - häufig wird bei den öffentlich-rechtlichen Kanälen die Übertragung erst begonnen, wenn die für Normalsterbliche und landschaftlich interessanten Regionen schon verlassen wurden. Geld für Sportsender auszugeben wäre aber herausgeworfenens Geld, wenn man an 99% der gelieferten Inhalte überhaupt nicht interessiert ist.
Bis vor zwei Jahren habe ich ein paarmal alte Reisenotizen mit den jeweiligen TdF Etappen abgeglichen und etwas dazu gepostet, mit dem Verschwinden des Diasporanodes #pluspora sind auch diese Postings zu Zombies geworden, also nur noch über die Caches andere Nodes evtl. verfügbar.
