Over the past ten days or so, #WindEnergy has provided a large fraction of the #UK's #Electricity demand, often above half of it. Even now, it is providing 47% and keeping #Gas down to single figure in percentage terms. There was a lull overnight but the new #storm, #Gerrit is currently the main source.
At the time of writing this post, 55.3% is being generated by #Wind and only 8.1% by #Gas. Demand is moderately low at 30.2 GW.
With the war against Russia, the USA is conquering the oil and gas markets in Europe at great cost to the environment - ships instead of pipelines.
It is also conquering the oil and gas supplies in Iraq and Syria. No main stream publication covered the opening of the Iraq pipeline to the Med by Lord Brown of BP, nor the fate of iraqi or syrian oil fields - the latter after the US invasion under USA governance.
Top 10 Natural Gas Producers by Country
The US is by far the largest producer of natural gas in the world, representing nearly a quarter of global natural gas production. Its output has increased by more than 350 billion cubic meters in the past decade owing to the increasing cost of coal, and advancements in extraction technology such as horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing, also known as fracking.
In addition to being a major natural gas producer, the US is also by far the biggest consumer of the fuel. In 2022, US demand for natural gas totaled 881 billion cubic meters, primarily for home heating and generating electricity.
In the first half of 2022, Reuters reported that the US became the world’s largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as the country increased shipments to Europe due to Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Em 1999, com um acordo assinado por Yasser Arafat, a Autoridade Palestiniana confiou a exploração da Marinha de Gaza a um consórcio formado pelo British Gas Group e pela Consolidated Contractors (uma empresa privada palestiniana), com respectivamente 60% e 30% das ações, da qual o Fundo de Investimento da Autoridade detém uma participação de 10%. Dois poços, Gaza Marine-1 e Gaza Marine-2, são perfurados.
Mas nunca entram em funcionamento porque são bloqueados por Israel, que afirma ter todo o gás a preços baixíssimos. Através do ex-primeiro-ministro Tony Blair, enviado do "Quarteto para o Médio Oriente", está a ser preparado um acordo com Israel que priva os palestinianos de três quartos das futuras receitas do gás, transferindo a sua parte para uma conta internacional controlada por Washington e Londres.
Mas logo depois de vencer as eleições em 2006, o Hamas rejeitou o acordo, chamando-o de roubo, e apelou à sua renegociação. Em 2007, o actual Ministro da Defesa israelita, Moshe Ya'alon, advertiu que “o gás não pode ser extraído sem uma operação militar que erradique o controlo do Hamas em Gaza”. Em 2008, Israel lançou a Operação Chumbo Fundido contra Gaza. Em Setembro de 2012, a Autoridade Palestiniana anunciou que tinha retomado as negociações sobre o gás com Israel, apesar da oposição do Hamas. Dois meses depois, a admissão da Palestina na ONU como “Estado observador não membro” reforçou a posição da Autoridade Palestiniana nas negociações.
No entanto, a Marinha de Gaza permaneceu bloqueada, impedindo os palestinos de explorar as riquezas naturais de que dispõem. Neste ponto, a Autoridade Palestiniana tomou outro caminho. Em 23 de Janeiro de 2014, no encontro entre o Presidente palestiniano Abbas e o Presidente russo Putin, foi discutida a possibilidade de confiar a exploração do campo de gás nas águas de Gaza à russa Gazprom, tal como anunciado pela agência Itar-Tass, sublinhando que A Rússia e a Palestina pretendem reforçar a cooperação no sector energético. Neste contexto, para além da exploração do campo de Gaza, estava prevista a exploração de um campo petrolífero perto da cidade palestiniana de Ramallah, na Cisjordânia. Na mesma área a empresa russa Technopromexport estava disposta a participar na construção de uma central termoEletrica com capacidade de 200 MW.
A formação do novo governo palestino de unidade nacional em 2 de junho de 2014 reforçou a possibilidade de que o acordo entre a #Palestina e a Rússia se materializasse. Dez dias depois, em 12 de Junho, os três jovens israelitas foram raptados e encontrados mortos em 30 de Junho: l Este é exactamente o casus belli que desencadeou a operação “Barreira de Proteção” contra Gaza. Uma operação que fazia parte da estratégia de Tel Aviv, que visava também apoderar-se das reservas energéticas de toda a bacia oriental, incluindo as palestinas, libanesas e sírias, e da estratégia de Washington que, ao apoiar Israel, visava controlar todo o #OrienteMédio , impedindo que a Rússia recuperasse influência na região. Uma mistura explosiva, cujas vítimas foram mais uma vez os palestinos. Mas logo depois de vencer as eleições em 2006, o #Hamas rejeitou o acordo, chamando-o de roubo, e apelou à sua renegociação...
