This is the era where Turks were on the rise abutting the Roman Empire, which had already split into Roman and Byzantine parts because of papal corruption, because the papacy and the imperial government were parasitically attached to each other, one of the reasons why a Roman emperor moved the capital from Rome to Constantinople, and the papacy refused to recognize the move as legitimate (9th century, The Great Schism). Eventually the Turks would best the Byzantines but also had sights on Rome, too.

For my final book review of the year, Ronald Huttons' Pagan Britain. It's an odd one. Hutton's refusal to commit opinions on seemingly clear-cut, relatively minor issues, and then pronounce questionable judgement on major topic base on very flimsy evidence, is really quite strange. There's also not all that much about paganism in there. What there is, though, is very good, especially pagan beliefs as being religion unconnected to morality. And as a review of the history of ideas (both archaeological and historical), this would be tough to beat. A meaty tome indeed; whether it was worth the effort, I'm honestly not quite sure.

And with that I prepare for another cross-continental trip home for Christmas with ~12 hours on a train tomorrow. Wooo....

This video reveals the most #secret #knowledge about #earth, #pyramids and our entire #history.
#message #strange #truth #world #news current events #2024 today this week this month motivation #Egypt

From a hidden history tied to ancient knowledge, to surprising modern discoveries in mathematics and science, this video delves into the mysteries concealed by polymaths and philosophers throughout the ages. It highlights intriguing connections, such as the alignment between the Moon's diameter and the Pyramid of the #Sun, as well as the fascinating coincidence that the coordinates of the King's Chamber’s sarcophagus match the exact speed of #light. These links suggest an intricate and purposeful design embedded within ancient structures.

The video also takes us inside the #Egyptian #Mystery #Schools, where renowned figures like Leonardo da Vinci, Plato, and Pythagoras studied. It reveals that these scholars were part of a tradition that involved deep esoteric knowledge and wisdom, which was passed down through secretive initiation processes. Among these, Da Vinci’s time in Egypt stands out, with references to his involvement in a confidential project for the Sultan of Cairo, as outlined in his Codex Atlanticus. This mysterious period in his life suggests a deeper connection to ancient Egyptian wisdom.

As the video continues, it uncovers the true origins of the Great Pyramid, once known as "Bull Mountain," and connects these ancient references to the modern understanding of the pyramid's precise orientation and its symbolic significance. Descriptions from Da Vinci’s writings reveal his experience in a cavern that matches the King’s Chamber, further linking him to the sacred architecture of Egypt. The video offers a new perspective on the intertwining of science, philosophy, and ancient wisdom, inviting viewers to reconsider the secrets hidden in plain sight throughout history.

Devant la guerre - by Branko Milanovic

As this brief description makes clear similarities with today’s situation are many. Whereas the conclusion of the Cold War did not have an official ending similar to Versailles, its main contours reproduced Versailles. The satisfied powers, the winners of the Cold War, were the US, UK, France and foremost Germany that regained unity. On the other hand, the “New World Order” produced one large power (Russia) that was from the very beginning unsatisfied with the outcome, especially since Russia, like Germany in 1918, did not at all feel defeated. From the very beginning when under Yeltsin the country was half-destroyed and internationally behaved more or less like a US vassal, Russia was resentful of one aspect of the victors’ policies: the extension of their military alliance to Russia’s borders.

The Devil’s Blacksmith: The Legendary Gates of Notre-Dame - Medievalists.net https://www.medievalists.net/2024/12/the-devils-blacksmith-the-legendary-gates-of-notre-dame/

Could one of the most extraordinary feats of medieval metalworking have been forged with the help of the devil? The ironwork on the side doors of Notre-Dame Cathedral, attributed to Biscornet, has sparked centuries of fascination and superstition.

Certainly impressive skills!

A normal day for a Victoria Welshman.

On the night of 17 November, off the Cape of Good Hope in southern Africa, an uncontrollable fire broke out on the wooden sailing ship, resulting in all but three of the 479 passengers and crew losing their lives.

Yet had it not been for Twm's experience - including urging them to drink the blood of those who had already died - not even those survivors would have made it back to Britain to tell the tale after ten days adrift in a lifeboat.

#5g is being rolled out across the country, despite growing #evidence that it is disruptive to our #health, our safety, and the #environment. The Invisible Rainbow is the groundbreaking story of electricity as it’s never been told before―exposing its very real impact on the #biosphere and #human health.

Over 100,000 copies sold!

Over the last 220 years, #society has evolved a universal belief that electricity is ‘safe’ for #humanity and the planet. Scientist and journalist Arthur Firstenberg disrupts this conviction by telling the story of electricity in a way it has never been told before―from an environmental point of view―by detailing the effects that this fundamental societal building block has had on our health and our planet.

In The #Invisible #Rainbow, Firstenberg traces the #history of #electricity from the early eighteenth century to the present, making a compelling case that many environmental problems, as well as the major diseases of industrialized civilization― #heart disease, #diabetes, and #cancer―are related to #electrical #pollution.
"Few individuals today are able to grasp the entirety of a scientific subject and present it in a highly engaging manner . . . Firstenberg has done just that with one of the most pressing but neglected problems of our technological age."―BRADLEY JOHNSON,MD, Amen Clinic, San Francisco
"[A] masterpiece."―Celia Farber, investigative journalist
"This seminal book...will transform your understanding ...of the environmental and health effects of electricity and radio frequencies"―Paradigm Explorer
