Ukraine 'still waiting for answer' from Orban on why Ukraine should not join EU

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban did not give President Volodymyr Zelensky an answer when asked why Budapest wants to block Ukraine's entry into the EU, Zelensky said at the Nordic-Ukraine Summit in Oslo on Dec. 13.

"I asked him to tell me one reason, not three, five, 10, tell me one reason" as to why talks should not begin, Zelensky said at the press conference in Oslo. "I'm still waiting for (an) answer."

#Orbán and #Milei aim to fight together "against international left"

#Hungary's Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, and #Argentina's President-elect, Javier Milei, discussed political cooperation to "make the fight against international left more effective." The statement was made by Orbán's press chief, Bertalan Havasi, to the Hungarian news agency "MTI."

In addition to the meeting with Milei, Orbán held discussions in Buenos Aires with other prominent political figures, including Santiago Abascal, the president of the Spanish party Vox, and former Brazilian President Jair #Bolsonaro.

Orbán's presence at these events underscores his active role in international politics, particularly considering that he was the only leader of the European Union (EU) to attend Bolsonaro's inauguration in January 2019.

(though i will add, the point he makes, near the end, about the borders and capacity to support, is in error... in the broader contexts of imperial abuses contributing to that (more walls and closed border not a solution), and eliminate the suppression of emancipatory technologies, then there's more than enough headroom to support the world many times over, and no manufactured scarcity (nor isolationism) to infect our minds manipulating us into fearful dependent obedience to our abuser. ... but other than that 1 point... this is jam packed with stuff worth your time to #consider, no matter your #politicalphilosophy ).

Viktor Orbán-sponsored advocacy institute the Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC), whose stated goal is to train Europe's next generation of right-wing leaders, plans to set up new branch in London, The Guardian reports.

This is a bas news for almost every EU nation struggling with the surge of extreme right popularity these days.

I really hope this doesn't become reality.

#Poland warned against introducing unilateral restrictions if the #EU does not extend the ban on Ukrainian grains.

RFK Jr.’s Message of Peace

On October 1, 1960, then-senator John F. Kennedy addressed the Polish American Congress in Chicago. Commenting on the limitations of, as he called it, “the policy of liberation,” #JFK stated: “We do not want to mislead the people of #Poland or #Hungary again, that the #United-States is prepared to liberate them. Therefore, within the general framework of present events, what policies should we carry out? What can we do to maintain the spirit of independence? What can we do to help, in Thomas Jefferson's words, the disease of liberty to spread? Poland is a satellite government, but the Poles are not a satellite people. We have no right, unless we are prepared to meet our commitments, to incite them to national suicide.” And while he did not advocate for abandoning Poland to the whims of the overlords in Moscow, the future president clearly understood how harmful a policy of building up expectations of the Americans “coming to the rescue” can be in Eastern Europe and preferred a policy of cautious realism.
