Someone shared this link to an "Off-Guardian" piece titled No, #Hamas is not committed to the obliteration of #Israel. I want to point out how much misinformation there is in this piece. This is not a discussion about the entire #Gaza situation, but about this misleading piece. Near the beginning we have:

The slogan “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” is often considered antisemitic because the assumption is it infers no “homeland” for the Jews. In fact, the phrase became widely used as a political slogan during the 1960’s. It was largely promulgated by the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO), who were instrumental in forming the present Palestinian Authority (PA).

Read up on the #PLO if you don't see the problem here. This organisation was formed in 1964, when Jordan controlled the West Bank and Egypt controlled Gaza. The liberation the PLO was seeking was not from Jordan or Egypt. They were seeking to eliminate the state of Israel and establish a Palestinian state on all of the land of the British (Cis-Jordanian) Mandate of #Palestine. They conducted terrorist attacks on Israel. They also played a key part in instigating the bloody Lebanese civil war, which ultimately left over 100,000 dead.

It is true that in the 1990s the PLO was instrumental in the Oslo Peace Accords and creating the Palestinian Authority, and started working towards a Palestinian state only in the West Bank and Gaza (now often referred to as Palestine), but don't erase everything that happened between their founding and that. If they promulgated the slogan in the 1960s, it only confirms its antisemitic nature.

I had a quick read, and it seems the rest of the the piece is just as bad for facts. I'm not going to dissect it all.

And again: if you want to discuss the situation as a whole, please start your own thread.

Israeli Broadcasting Authority quoting Israeli Prime-Minister #Netanyahu: We are preparing for the possibility of war with the Palestinian Authority (Fatah)

Are people still buying that crap that Netanyahu and apartheid regime of Israel is doing this to get rid of #Hamaa because of October 7?

TBH, it would be good for both israel and palestinians to get rid of the corrupt and useless #PA and what is left of #PLO.

Gaza communications down across Gaza as Israel searches main hospital

Israeli troops carried out building-by-building searches at Gaza's main hospital, as a new communications blackout in the territory on Friday compounded fears for Palestinian civilians trapped inside the facility.  Follow our live blog for all the latest developments. All times are Paris time (GMT+1).

It is unbelievable that none of the western news agencies seems to be interested in saying that those tunnels and shelters were all built by Israel in the 1980s, and they have 0 intelligence regarding the whereabouts of the hostages, other than looking inside the bunkers they had built there.

Over 12000 Palestinians have been killed by IDF, and close to 200 in the occupied west bank, several refugee camps in the WB have been destroyed, health care centers, schools, administrative buildings and PLA/PLO members taken into indefinite detention.

It seems that there no ends to this madness and compliance of the media and world leaders accepting ever freaking lie from Israel without any critical questioning (some seems to slowly doing this, but with silk gloves).

How #Israel helped create #Hamas

source: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2014/07/30/how-israel-helped-create-hamas/

The Israelis saw Qutb's adherents in the Palestinian territories, including the wheelchair-bound Sheik Ahmed #Yassin, as a useful counterweight to #Arafat's #PLO.

...

Yassin's Mujama would become Hamas, which, it can be argued, was Israel's #Taliban: an #Islamist group whose antecedents had been laid down by the West in a #battle against a leftist #enemy.

#Egypt has closed off the #Rafah crossing making it impossible for palestinians to leave Gaza

No food, water or electricity for the past 6 days these people have nowhere to go.

Over half a million people carrying what they can to run away from Hamas and IDF.

The moral guardians of the "free world are busy taking their pictures with the faacist coalition government turned into saints overnight.

They are guilty by association, guilty by birth, guilty for not revolting, guilty because they are simply Gazans.

Wave your Israeli flag and cry for the victims of Hamas, the monster child of Israel destroying #PLO in the 90s, who was the child of Israeli brutal occupation of Gaza and west bank in late 1960s.

Hamas will lose this battle, 1000a of innocent people have already died, many more will die before Israel feels satisfied with their thirst for blood to cover their failure to identify, promptly react and defend the citizens of their country, then trying to compensate by making up stories, lying (as Netanyahu has famously done all his life) and even used #AI to fake evidence to convince the world they are fighting #ISIS (the same one they have been helping in the past 8 years against Syrian government and #Hezbollah in #Iraq and #Syria).

Don't you dare remembering the past, this blood thirsty attack by Hamas was unprovoked, because they are simply evil and want to kill all the #Jews,

Trust the media, trust the #US president who trusted #Netanyahu and even claimed he had seen the gruesome images of mutilated and beheaded Israeli toddlers.

Believe in what the party tells you. Or you are with the #terrorists, with Hamas, ISIS, #Iran and ultimately #Putin.

In the mean time Palestinians are dying by bombs, hunger, thirsted, lack of medicine while the world is watching.

Never again was only for the westerners, brown people can die in masses and no one cares.

The Palestinians don't have a Moseseto direct them to promised land, only death and apartheid walls.

I really miss Robert Fisk and his raiser sharp pen to remind the hypocrites of the west about the bloody history of Israeli "final solution" to their Palestinian "problem" since their creation in 1948.

This is what Edward Said wrote about this book:

With the Israeli-Palestinian crisis reaching wartime levels, where is the latest confrontation between these two old foes leading? #RobertFisk's explosive Pity the Nation recounts #Sharon and #Arafat's first deadly encounter in #Lebanon in the early 1980s and explains why the Israel–Palestine relationship seems so intractable. A remarkable combination of war reporting and analysis by an author who has witnessed the carnage of #Beirut for twenty-five years, Fisk, the first #journalist to whom bin Laden announced his jihad against the U.S., is one of the world's most fearless and honored foreign correspondents. He spares no one in this saga of the civil war and subsequent Israeli invasion: the #PLO, whose thuggish behavior alienated most Lebanese; the various Lebanese factions, whose appalling brutality spared no one; the Syrians, who supported first the Christians and then the Muslims in their attempt to control Lebanon; and the Israelis, who tried to install their own puppets and, with their 1982 invasion, committed massive war crimes of their own. It includes a moving finale that recounts the travails of Fisk's friend Terry Anderson who was kidnapped by #Hezbollah and spent 2,454 days in captivity. Fully updated to include the Israeli withdrawl from south Lebanon and Ariel Sharon's electoral victory over Ehud Barak, this edition has sixty pages of new material and a new preface. "Robert Fisk's enormous book about Lebanon's desperate travails is one of the most distinguished in recent times."—Edward Said
