The magic of halfmoon farming is spreading beyond sub saharan Africa

The simple idea to create a halfmoon to capture the rain water and provide more water to the ground that it would usually do when most vegetation has been removed and risk for erosion and floods increases, this idea has started helping the hills and dry land to turn into pockets of greets with native plants and deeply rooted bushes helping to preserve the top soil, provide more ground water and prevent floods.

Did #plastic #straw bans work? Yes, but not in the way you’d think.

source: https://grist.org/culture/plastic-straw-bans-single-use-plastic-pollution-impact/

Thousands of restaurants joined the pledge and the idea took off, reaching the rare environmental threshold of actual policy change. In 2018, Seattle became the first big city in the United States to ban plastic straws. It was followed shortly by other major municipalities in California, New Jersey, Florida, and other states. That same year, companies including Starbucks and American Airlines jumped on the anti-straw bandwagon, the former announcing it would launch a new “sippy” lid for its cold beverages starting in 2020, allegedly diverting more than 1 billion straws per year.

The 'Nobodies' Interviews Peruvian Women in Struggle

"The strength for the struggle emanates from Mother Earth. No one has the right to take away what belongs to us," Martha Mamani Huacca said.

On Thursday, "The Nobodies" (Los Nadies), a TV show hosted by teleSUR President Patricia Villegas, interviewed Martha Mamani Huacca.

She is one of the millions of anonymous women who have participated in the protests that erupted in Peru since December 2022 when the Congress ousted President Pedro #Castillo, a humble rural teacher who remains imprisoned and accused of attempting a coup d'état.

By the time Sinéad O’Connor sang this (1992) some 70,000 children had been sexually abused by Catholic priests & brothers in Ireland. The state, media, bishops, cardinals & pope had covered it up. She was scorned.

The world was not kind to her for telling the truth.

Shame on them.

"No doubt she will learn a lesson from her imprisonment," Magistrate Webster said. (not specifying what that lesson could possibly be)

In an impassioned speech, Harmsen referred to herself as a "peaceful forest protester".

"The reason I commit these offences [is] because I am terrified of the worsening climate crisis. I am not a menace to society, yet here I am facing a jail term," she said.

"I am not giving a finger to the entire judicial system, I am standing up for the forests, for takayna, a safer planet and if that makes me a dangerous criminal then I think we are going to need bigger prisons.

"I am not thumbing my nose up to the judicial system, I am standing up to the system because it is failing our environment and it is negatively impacting human life."

It is the first time an environmental activist has been sentenced to jail time in Tasmania in more than a decade.

Golrokh Ebrahimi, one of the brave Iranian women fighting for social justice and equality, has denied the proposal from the government for a retrial and possibility to receive Amnesty.

Ms. Ebrahimi is one of the strong activists inside Iran who has been fighting for years against the gender apartheid in the country and for respect of basic human rights of all citizens.

She has received several prizes from European women and human rights activists, but the CIA backed opposition "leaders" in US and UK do not promote her case as much since she had openly distanced herself from their actions and calling Reza Pahlavi, the desperate son of former shah of Iran, as the future leader of Iran.

US Immigration Rant Incoming...

Unless you have pure Native American blood from generations of ancestors in the USA, you are an immigrant. Most of us are immigrants in the USA while an estimated 3.5% of us are undocumented. We unjustly took land from many and continue to mistreat Native Americans even today - violating treaties made and guaranteed by the Constitution.

Others continue to be mislabeled and mistreated as immigrants as well - many of whom are related to Native Americans. Far more immigrants that were unrelated came to this country escaping harm and many today seek a home here despite the current divisiveness - it's still better than where they come from. Our home remains a promised land for others who are less fortunate and want to contribute to our society.

There is no such thing as an illegal immigrant (people are not legal or illegal). There are undocumented immigrants who may have entered or stayed illegally. Some were born and raised in the USA, whether a dreamer, a transplanted descendent, or a member of the silent generation born at home, have no documentation to prove it.

The notion of the USA from its inception was to be a welcoming space for all who intend no harm that were fleeing harm in many cases. Founders sought to provide for equal opportunities and freedom from religion or the freedom to practice any religion. They knew this could only have been accomplished by a secular government established as independence was won from religious autocrats across the pond at the time. Over time, the will of the people has persisted even in dark days of injustice at different times in our history.

As a country, we've grown and learned to stand for human rights, women's rights, disabled rights, and LGBTQ+ rights - to reject slavery and oppression often facilitated by perverting the tenets of organized religion. The majority of us have grown through the generations together towards that goal of a more perfect union. Many have died defending us against authoritarians in other countries and our own.

Today's Repugnants (GOP) want to go back to dark days in ways that are not only unconstitutional, but in opposition of the very principles upon which this country came to be. Their goal to rewrite the Constitution so it provides them the very authoritarianism is clear as we see evidence of their illegal activities to subvert the will of the people on many fronts. The majority must stand against them and uphold the Constitution through activism and voting in elections as well as holding politicians accountable.

I am one of the disabled who cannot get out and about anymore as an activist but I am happy to provide advice and support to those of you who have far more years in front of you than behind you. The future is yours to shape - do not be deterred! Tell them "Shame On You" with your vote, your voice, and your solidarity.

De-platform them and make a noise so loud and so long it drowns them out as many deplorables age out of society. But never let your guard down like some in prior generations did. It is up to you to take the country back from the deplorables in power and do not allow them to ever get it back again. Stand with Democrats as the Big Tent party for equality together no matter the birthright, gender, sexuality, creed, color, ability, religion, or age.
