The same #sunset but with different #ShutterSpeeds. The first is a longer #exposure and the #Sun shows an interesting set of #rays only the bottom, rather like beard.
The next is a shorter exposure and hence the there is little detail in the foreground #silhouettes and the #colours are more subdued.
My experimentation with my new #MacroLens continues. Some things I've noticed are that: obviously it's sensitive to small movements and so a steady hand and subject are needed and that the #DepthOfField is quite small. So, I think it's better to switch to #AperturePriority mode rather than automatic so that I can select a higher #F-Stop to increase the depth. This means that the shutter speed goes down and so one still needs a steady hand or tripod. So I'm left with a compromise between depth of field and steadiness required. Also, ideally, you would need to be in bright light conditions.
Here's the #Crocus again -- there aren't too many interesting close subject around at this time of year.

I recently bought a #MacroLens for my #camera and I'm experimenting with it. It's second hand and so cost less than half the price of a new one. It behaves quite differently to the #ZoomLenses I have and so it will take time to get used to it. Here's a #photograph of a #crocus #flower growing in the front #garden. I quite like the focus on the #stamens

Another #sunset for you. Calling it a sunset belies an arrogance on our part implying that we are stationary and the #Sun is moving around us, along with every other star in the universe! But is there another pithy term we could use? Maybe #SolarOcclusion but it hardly roles off the tongue. I expect there is a more technical term used by astronomers and meteorologists. Anyway, some nice #colours and #silhouettes there.
A little after #sunset and the #NewMoon at #dusk is approaching the #western #horizon, with #Earthshine illuminating the "dark" side. There's also #Venus there and, if you look very closely, you can also see #Saturn to the bottom right of the #planet. Add in a wisp of #cloud, an #aeroplane and its #contrail in the mid distance, #trees and a #house nearby and finish it off with a #sky turning from smoothly from deep #orange to a dark #blue and you end up with rather a nice collage. I used a #tripod to get a good #photograph here.
It has been a fine #winter #day today and the #Sun has been out for almost all of it. As it came to set, I took some #photographs of it but in the first one, I think the #Gull steals the scene.
In this second one, I think the #aeroplane and its short #contrail draw one's attention.

On a journey from our place to or from London, we pass #Stonehenge on the #A303 and the traffic is almost always jammed there as the site is of historical and archaeological importance. It is afforded #UNESCO #WorldHeritage status. As the weather war fine, I decided for an impromptu visit as the journey is not one I undertake very often and who know when the weather conditions would be this good again. There were actually hundreds if not thousands of tourists there comprising people of all ages and numerous nationalities. Many were happy like us to walk the roughly 2 km journey from the visitors' centre but shuttle buses were also going up and down the stretch of road. It's a little unfortunate that you can only get within about 50 m of the #monument but it's still impressive.

This afternoon we went to #DownHouse which was the residence of #CharlesDarwin. #EnglishHeritage have done a good job of restoring the house and opening it up to the public. You can see furnished parts of the house such as the study, bedrooms, drawing rooms and childrens' and billiard rooms and so on.
This is a stone statue of #Darwin but I should have used a flash because it has come out rather dark.
From the large garden, you can get a good view of the entire family house.

I went for a #NatureWalk this afternoon with some family. It has been quite damp and dull and so it was quite muddy, which doesn't bother me at all. On the #trail, there were many fallen trees and on some, #BracketFungi were growing on them, like the specimen here. The colours are very vivid but I had to use a #flash to get a sharp image.
#Winter days are short and often dull and #grey and devoid of #colour. However, you can chance upon a bit of chromatic brilliance even if momentarily. Here was a patch of #sky in the #gloaming which added a bit of an #orange and #pink illumination to the end of the day and the beginning of one of the longest nights of the year.

When I was getting up on this lazy day I managed to catch this #DoubleRainbow. #Rainbows are of course eternally ephemeral and it had gone by the time I uploaded the #photograph onto my computer. Of course what that actually means is that the rain patterns are dynamic and so it's a matter of luck to see them at any given time.

The temperature overnight dropped to -5 °C and so there was another hard #frost when I woke up as has been the case over the past few days.
The outside of the #windows of the #conservatory were covered with #ice #crystals which had formed an interesting pattern on the #GlassPanes.
Moving #outside, the #AppleTree still has some of its leaves on it but there is layer of #frost on them.
#Water has #frozen solid in this #bucket, like a huge #IceCube.
#Grass is likewise affected with ice on individual #blades.
Meanwhile the #LastQuarter #phase of the #Moon passes by standing vigil over the icy scene.
As do a couple of #HouseSparrow observing from a #rooftop.
This morning I posted a moonset. It has largely been a #sunny #day and as #sunset approaches, I #photographed the #Sun, which led to #silhouettes in the #foreground and plenty of #LensFlare. Still cold out there with the #temperature a couple of degrees above #freezing but bone dry.
