High of 73ºF today (summer), tornado warnings right now, and then dropping to 18ºF overnight with possible snow in the morning
My body is going into shock!!
Sorry, but I never thought they were a "silver bullet" no matter how much happy talk was put behind it, and that's because I was in Illinois when the Clinton IL nuke plant went online and there were always cost over-runs of gargantuan proportions. Always looks good on paper but shitty IRL.

What a disappointment Small Nuclear Reactors have turned out to be. They're not that small, or cheap or being produced and deployed at the rate and speed they were supposed to be.Not a technology we can rely on to help us react to climate change in a meaningful way.
I almost forgot this screenshot I took on Monday evening.
I took it after I heard that our lowest night temperature was supposed to be 24C, which I couldn't quite believe. These are the tropics, but even here February is usually cold - at least our "cold", which means 10-15C at night or lower. I switched to Summer now: Shorts, t-shirt and no more jacket on the bike.
I wonder though: If this is February, what will the real Summer be like?

Joe Biden just did the rarest thing in US politics: he stood up to the oil industry
The Biden administration suspended new permits for natural gas terminals. Can we see more of this kind of backbone?
Ten days ago Joe Biden did something remarkable, and almost without precedent – he actually said no to big oil.
His administration halted the granting of new permits for building liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminals, something Washington had been handing out like M&Ms on Halloween for nearly a decade. It’s a provisional “no” – Department of Energy experts will spend the coming months figuring out a new formula for granting the licenses that takes the latest science and economics into account – but you can tell what a big deal it is because of the howls of rage coming from the petroleum industry and its gaggle of politicians.
And you can tell something else too: just how threadbare their arguments have become over time. Biden has called their bluff, and it’s beautiful to watch.

https://texasobserver.social/@oconnell/111880446480843787 oconnell@texasobserver.social - I've a fun, short piece out from the @TexasObserver magazine, about a crew of volunteers that have been going out every week, for about 15 years, to count all the crawling, flying critters they can find.
So far they've identified almost 3,000 species of insect including over 50 bees, 345 flies, and over 500 different beetles. https://www.texasobserver.org/insect-lbj-wildflower-valerie-bugh-austin?utm_campaign=mastodon
