Holyrood has just passed the Scottish Elections Bill, changing the way we run elections for the Scottish Parliament and local councils.

I wanted to let you know about some of the changes which I secured to this Bill on behalf of the Scottish Greens, making our elections safer, fairer and more democratic.

Banning ‘double-jobbing’ - Following my earlier proposal to ban members of the House of Lords from serving as MSPs and Graham Simpson’s similar proposals to ban MPs, amendments were unanimously agreed yesterday to ban dual mandates from 2026

Making it easier for young people to vote. - Young people are one of the groups least likely to be registered to vote and that needs to change. The Scottish Government has agreed to my proposals to trial automatic voter registration in schools, universities and colleges.

Protecting privacy for candidates and agents. - When candidates and agents are made to publish their home address, it puts them at risk. Thanks to Green amendments, agents will no longer need to publish their home address and candidates will have the option to display the ward they live in on the ballot paper, as an alternative to printing their address.

Increasing protections from political violence. - Attacks on elected representatives, candidates, campaigners and election workers are sadly becoming more common across Europe. As well as the direct impact on the victims, these attacks have a chilling effect on our whole democratic system. Parliament has passed my amendments to give the option of reflecting this in sentencing where necessary.

Reforming the unfair cash deposits system. - Having to pay thousands of pounds to get candidates on the ballot paper is fundamentally anti-democratic. Replacing cash deposits with a set number of nominations from registered voters has long been an Electoral Commission recommendation and whilst other parties were not willing to agree to it immediately, the Scottish Government has agreed to launch a consultation on my proposals.

Those are just some of the improvements which the Scottish Greens have made to strengthen our democracy.

None of this would have been possible without our supporters, members and volunteers helping to get Green MSPs elected. With the next election now less than eighteen months away, we need to rapidly build up our campaign funds. If you can chip in £5 or £10 today, it will go a long way towards achieving a record Green result in 2026.

The "nationalist" True Finns' Party will be included in #Finland's next coalition government. This signals a closer alignment of Finland with #NATO; the #TrueFinns are known for their anti-Russian stance and are the only party in Finland which openly advocates for the return of Eastern àKarelia, #Vyborg (Viipuri) and #Pechenga (Petsämö) - previously Finnish territories annexed by the #SovietUnion in 1940.

There goes about #Nordic Country deep into a #fascist route in the shadow of popular #Russia phobia everyone is OK with. This is the new red scare that build up the #Nazi party in the 1930s, #Communism is replaced with #Greens, #Liberals, #Socialists, #Liberals and Russians. #Jews have been replaced with #Muslims and the #Natioanlists are getting their feet into every government in #Europe.

Kiel is home to #Krauss-Maffei Wegmann Maschinenbau, builder of the #Leopard tank. In the Kiel parliamentary vote of 2021, the #Greens gained almost 14% to score 28% of the total, while the SDP lost ground but held on to the seat with 29.5%. Just over two thousand votes separated them. The anti-war Left and Alternative for Germany (AfD) candidates lost ground in Kiel, ending up with 5% and just over 7,000 votes each. In Dusseldorf, headquarters for the #Rheinmetall group, the Greens gained 13% in 2021 from the SDP and CDU, losing narrowly to the CDU. Similar vote switches to the Greens were recorded in Essen and Duisburg, where #Thyssen-Krupp directs its military industrial complex.

#AfD now strongest party in eastern #Germany, rises to 15% nationally

The Alternative for Germany party — which has faced extreme political pressure, including threats to ban the party entirely — is seeing a surge in support, particularly in what was once formerly East Germany. According to polling firm Insa, it is now the strongest political party in that entire region of the country, which is home to over 16 million people.

If there were federal elections next Sunday, AfD would reach 27 percent in the eastern federal states, while #CDU would follow with one point less. #SPD and the #Greens would only get 15 and 14 percent, respectively. Since FDP only achieved 7 percent, only 36 percent would vote for the traffic-light parties there. The Left party would come in at 8 percent.

Here, I think this #photograph captures the tangled #jungle nature of the #tomato plants with #fruit distributed around in various stages of ripeness.

The big #problem with #British #politics is that it doesn't exist. #Read some #political #history and #philosophy and you'll soon realise there is a de facto one party state in the #UK.

#Conservatives = neoliberal-globalists.

The Conservatives #conserve nothing, grow #government, permit mass #immigration, support #speech crime, support thought #crime, increase #regulations, support "#multiculturalism", support "LGBTQIA+", hate #autochthonous British people, borrow #money at interest, print #currency, support #globalism, support foreign #wars, support net zero, support offshoring #industry, take part in #cronyism, don't support free market #capitalism, want to give illegal #migrants #amnesty, support the #corrupt #Ukraine puppet government, supported illegal #lockdowns, supported illegal #medical #mandates, supported #unscientific mask wearing, support illegal on-the-spot #fines, support #biometricID, support ignoring #paedophilia, support ignoring crime #statistics regarding #race, support the World Economic Forum, support #agenda2030, support "the great reset", support low #birthrates, support #miscegenation and support #depopulation.

Labour support everything the so-called Conservatives do and they don't support the #working classes and in-fact appear to hate the autochthonous British working classes and consider them, in the words of Jack Staw, a people "not worth saving."

Lib Dems are neither #Liberal, in the classical sense, or #Democratic. They wanted to overturn the #EU #referendum and reject the Democratic #vote on membership and they're #neoliberals, which is a philosophy that includes attacks on classical Liberal concepts like free speech, free thought and free inquiry. They also support everything the so-called Conservatives and Labour party do.

#Greens support the the reduction of #CO2 from the current 400ppm to zero, which will kill all life on #Earth as it will prevent #photosynthesis occurring, therefore preventing #plants growing and eliminating them as a food for #humans, #insects and #animals, destroying the food chain and the Earth's #biosphere. They don't understand how the #climate or biosphere works and are ostensibly useful idiots for plutocratic #elites and big #corporations. They also support everything the so-called Conservatives, Labour party and Lib Dems do.

The #SNP wants to take #Scotland out of the UK union and give the Scots "#independence" by signing them up to EU union. Essentially all this does is transfer dependency from #London to #Brussels and exchanges the #English for the Franco-Germans. Scotland will be no more independent and in some ways even more dependant. The SNP also support everything the other neoliberal-globalist parties do too.

In short, there is no political #choice beyond colour because there is no meaningful differentiation between political philosophies, or outcomes of voting. Whatever party you vote for, you get the same policies, the same lies, the same #corruption, the same #cronyism, the same #sophistry, the same national trajectory, the same everything, only with some minor and ostensibly superficial differences in packaging and delivery.

British politics is a total #farce that doesn't even engage in any recognisable political #debate because other than faux ad hominems, jeering and lip-service to non-existent political #principles there's nothing to debate, because they all agree...
