SMS text messaging is an archaic, expensive, and limited messaging standard. Yet it remains in place as the de facto standard for notifications because everything else is a walled garden and cut off from other messenger services. WhatsApp does not send to Telegram which does not send to Signal, etc.
Apple has deliberately withheld iMessage from non-iOS platforms, so that has never been considered as an option. To replace SMS though, the messaging has to be baked into the phone OS (not to be voluntarily installed or uninstalled by a user), and this is where the RCS standard came in, which also needed mobile carrier support. As it stands, RCS has been adopted by most major carriers and Android devices… but it has zero penetration on iOS because Apple won’t adopt it.
It’s time Apple faced up to this and sat around the table with the other players to discuss a solution that benefits all users. We can’t move on from SMS unless there is a proper alternative that is fully adopted.

Schon 150 Millionen Nutzer "umgestellt"
Schon für 150 Millionen Google-Konten ist eine Zwei-Faktor-Authentifizierung eingeschaltet. Wie beim Bezahlen mit Kreditkarte muss über einen zusätzlichen Weg die Identität des Anmeldenden bestätigt werden.
Wie Heise berichtet, gibt es dafür bei Google verschiedene Möglichkeiten
- es wird ein Einmal-Kennwort (TAN) per SMS übermittelt,
- man bekommt ein Einmal-Kennwort über die Google Authentifizierungs-App,
- man bestätigt eine Push-Benachrichtigung, die man über die Google-App am Smartphone bekommt,
- auf dem eigenen Smartphone ist ein spezieller Sicherheitsschlüssel dafür gespeichert,
- wenn alles nicht verfügbar ist, sollte es einen Backup Code von Google geben.
Man kann sich sicher sein, dass die erste Methode, per SMS, als nächstes abgeschafft wird, weil Google dafür Kosten entstehen. Genau das erleben wir zur Zeit bei den verschiedensten Banken. Was übrig bleibt, sind alles Wege, die nur über eine Google App funktionieren und damit die Abhängigkeit von diesem Monopolisten weiter verstärkt.
In dem zitierten Artikel gibt darüber hinaus gute Erklärungen zu Vor- und Nachteilen einer Zwei-Faktor-Authentifizierung. Außerdem wird erklärt, wie der Nutzer (noch) diese Funktion bei Google ein- oder ausschalten kann.

Gedanken | Ich hasse Dienste die mit SMS-Zertifizierung arbeiten!
Sei es nun meine Krankenkasse, Paypal oder sonst ein Dienst der mit SMS-Zertifizierung arbeitet, es kotzt mich wirklich an. Warum? Nun ich und ca. 500 andere Personen in unserem Dorf wohnen in einer weitgehend mobilfunkfreien Zone. Sprich ich bekomme hier wenn ich ganz viel Glück habe und das Smartphone/Handy an ein bestimmes meiner Fenster stelle nach einer Weile, wenn sich das Gerät verbunden hat, so viel Empfang das mal eine SMS ankommt. Das ist natürlich extrem nervig wenn man einen Zertifizierungscode braucht der via SMS kommt.

Check who is sending you SMS spam in South Africa if they're registered with WASPA
The Wireless Application Service Providers’ Association of South Africa (WASPA) has launched an online platform that lets you type in the number an automated SMS message originated from and find out who sent it.
Called the Codes Project, the platform is intended to help consumers identify the sender of unwanted SMS messages.
WASPA managing executive Ilonka Badenhorst said that unsolicited direct marketing messages may create frustration for the recipient, especially if they are unable to identify the originator of the message.

Pour avoir plus de détails, il faut se tourner vers une autre série de tests réalisés par Rémy Grünblatt, chercheur à l’ #INRIA, qui a publié un post de blog retraçant ses propres constats sur la #confidentialité des #données de l’ #application #Android de la #société. Selon lui, « Doctolib est en effet trop bavard, et fait fuiter des données liées à la #santé de ses utilisateurs à d'autres #entreprises privées ».
Il explique que le service de Doctolib transmet de nombreuses #métadonnées à des prestataires américains, notamment #Cloudinary, #Amazon Web Services et #Cloudflare, dont certaines peuvent permettre de déduire des #informations de santé liées à un #utilisateur en recoupant avec son adresse #IP.

l’organisation InterHop accompagnée d’autres requérants, a en effet déposé un recours devant le Conseil d’ #Etat visant à faire annuler le partenariat passé entre Doctolib et le #gouvernement autour de la campagne de #vaccination contre la #Covid-19. Selon #Nextinpact, ce recours a été examiné lundi et une réponse du Conseil d’Etat est attendue incessamment sous peu.

Es ist eine SMS, die dir ein #Paket zur Abholung vorgaukelt und man soll dann auf einen Link klicken. Da ich nie meine Mobilfunknummer angebe wäre ich da nie drauf reingefallen aber ich gebe meine #Mobilfunknummer sowieso nur an ausgewählte Leute weiter. Leider muss ja irgendjemand von denen mich in sein #Adressbuch eingetragen haben und so meine Nummer an die Scammer weitergeleitet haben :( Gute Freunde, die auch meinen Sinn für #Sicherheit, #Datenschutz und #Privatsphäre teilen sind schwer zu finden :-....
