I cancelled my subscription to WaPo. Fuck you, Bezos. Your paper is now more a propaganda outlet than a news outlet. I'm sorry to see a once trusted news source become another Fox News.

'Smash his toy': Commentator says Bezos 'capitulated' to fascism and urges WaPo boycott

Several of WaPo's writers have expressed their dismay at Bezos's decision, and I regret leaving them, but Bezos himself needs to know that, even though he's three orders of magnitude richer than any being should be allowed to be, this is not OK.

Twitter died because of Musk. So did Tesla. (Driving a Tesla is now a political statement: "I'm a fascist douche.") WaPo is dying because of Bezos. Undoubtedly hundreds our thousands of similar statements could be made about good things billionaires have destroyed. If we bring in the environment, then we're into the trillions or quadrillions of things destroyed.

Billionaires should not exist. Period. No human can wield that much power wisely. And when you factor in that the power shrinks their brains to those of nematodes, the point carries even more force.

FTA: "I'm getting sick of people saying 'cancelling subscriptions hurts the writers not the owners,'" Mystal wrote on X. "If we're being real ... NOTHING hurts billionaires. Being a billionaire literally buys you out of consequences."

Once again: Billionaires should not exist. There are a couple of ways to ensure that they do not exist. The gentlest is to simply take away their money.

But since they're in charge, they will never let that happen. Less gentle methods might convince them to adopt more gentle methods.

For the last 18 months or so, Saudi Arabia and Iran have been engaging in a process of rapprochement. The two signed a Beijing-brokered roadmap to de-escalation in early 2023. The Kingdom reopened its embassy in #Tehran in autumn 2023. Since then, a series of symbolic steps, including state visits and the opening of consular services, have taken place. Not that you'd know from reading the prestige press in the UK and US. The #FT, #Bloomberg, the #WSJ, the #WaPo and the #NYT hardly report on this story. So, yesterday, Saudi Arabia and Iran conducted joint naval exercises in the Gulf of Oman. Given the situation in the Middle East, this would seem important. Who's reporting on it? Let's look at #Google News.

Calls Mount for U.S. to Investigate, Hold Israel Accountable for Killing Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi

The body of Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, the 26-year-old Turkish American activist
who was killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank, has arrived
in Turkey ahead of her funeral. On Thursday, Ayşenur's father, Mehmet
Suat Eygi, praised Turkey for investigating the killing and called on
the U.S. to do the same.

Mehmet Suat Eygi: "America is a different country. When there is
injustice or torment toward its citizens or they are killed in any
country in the world, it lands on that country like the eagle on its
emblem. But when the subject is Israel, there is more of an effort to
dodge it. But I want to believe that people will listen to their
conscience."

Earlier this week, The Washington Post published an investigation
corroborating eyewitness accounts that the protests Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi
had been taking part in were already over when Israeli soldiers opened
fire and killed her.

Meanwhile, three top Democrats from Ayşenur's home state of Washington -
Senators Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray and Congressmember Pramila
Jayapal - called on the Biden administration to investigate her killing.
On Wednesday, hundreds of people gathered at a Seattle beach for a vigil
honoring the recent University of Washington graduate.

The term communist is now on the table

When the brain-dead come out to play:
“If your opponent claims you’re a ‘communist,’ maybe don’t start with an economic agenda that can (accurately) be labeled as federal price controls,”

Trump makes history again as he powers toward Republican nomination

No, he didn't, #CNN. He won by 58 percent to 42. That's far less than anticipated (by yourself).

Trump beats Haley decisively in N.H.

No, he didn't, #WaPo. He took a beating by 42% of the GOP voters who just didn't vote for him (and probably won't).

Judge rules in favor of Montana youths in landmark climate decision

In the first ruling of its kind nationwide, a Montana state court decided Monday in favor of young people who alleged the state violated their right to a “clean and healthful environment” by promoting the use of fossil fuels.

The court determined that a provision in the Montana Environmental Policy Act has harmed the state’s environment and the young plaintiffs, by preventing Montana from considering the climate impacts of energy projects. The provision is accordingly unconstitutional, the court said.

Several left and people’s organizations in West Africa have condemned the threat issued by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to militarily intervene with the backing of #France and the #US to restore the unpopular Mohamed Bazoum to #Niger’s presidency.

The West African Peoples’ Organization (WAPO) has “vehemently opposed” the ultimatum by #ECOWAS Heads of States on July 30 to “take all measures necessary,” including “the use of force,” if the ousted president and his government is not restored by Sunday, August 6.

This decision of ECOWAS is “a maneuver by colonial France and #GB, under the hegemony of American #imperialism, to resort to armed intervention under the guise of restoring #democracy and #human-rights in Niger,” #WAPO said in a statement on Wednesday, August 2.
