Fare thee well to John Pilger...He went against the grain and told the truth, spectacularly.
Journalism has lost one of the bravest.
When I was last in Gaza, the Israeli air force terrorised the population by flying fast and loud and low at night.
All children bed-wetted and had violent nightmares, said a psychologist, and were 'damaged forever'. Such
is Israel's exercise of its 'right to self defence'. John Pilger's last tweet, November 2023

#Poet and #activist Benjamin Zephaniah died today, aged only 65. Here's one of his:

We Refugees

I come from a musical place
Where they shoot me for my song
And my brother has been tortured
By my brother in my land.

I come from a beautiful place
Where they hate my shade of skin
They don’t like the way I pray
And they ban free poetry.

I come from a beautiful place
Where girls cannot go to school
There you are told what to believe
And even young boys must grow beards.

I come from a great old forest
I think it is now a field
And the people I once knew
Are not there now.

We can all be refugees
Nobody is safe,
All it takes is a mad leader
Or no rain to bring forth food,
We can all be refugees
We can all be told to go,
We can be hated by someone
For being someone.

I come from a beautiful place
Where the valley floods each year
And each year the hurricane tells us
That we must keep moving on.
I come from an ancient place
All my family were born there
And I would like to go there
But I really want to live.

I come from a sunny, sandy place
Where tourists go to darken skin
And dealers like to sell guns there
I just can’t tell you what’s the price.

I am told I have no country now
I am told I am a lie
I am told that modern history books
May forget my name.

We can all be refugees
Sometimes it only takes a day,
Sometimes it only takes a handshake
Or a paper that is signed.
We all came from refugees
Nobody simply just appeared,
Nobody’s here without a struggle,
And why should we live in fear
Of the weather or the troubles?
We all came here from somewhere.

An interview with World Without War: 3 x 5 lessons from a 20 years old movement

image

World Without War is a member of #War Resisters' International based in #SouthKorea, and is one of the most successful #pacifist and #antimilitarist movements in #Asia, taking action on issues such as the #arms trade, ending mandatory male #conscription and #activist #empowerment.

This year, WWW is celebrating its 20th anniversary by celebrating its achievements, reflecting on its challenges, and envisioning the coming years/decades. To mark this occasion, we interviewed front-line #activist Jungmin Choi. She has responded to our questions in consultation with the WWW team. Here, they have dived deep into their past, present and future, making this a valuable read for the #pacifists and antimilitarists actively resisting war and reducing its causes within the country and globally.

This interview, among other things, considers issues that are crucial for the Asia #Peace Network and the wider War Resisters' International to consider, if we want to build stronger movements to resist the arms trade, take action on climate crisis and #militarism, and promote activist emotional wellbeing. As we all know, the devastating effects of these issues transcend national borders.

Happy 20th birthday to World Without War!

Harry Belafonte, singer, actor and activist, has died at age 96

This makes me so sad. Sure he was old, but still, it's a big loss for the world to lose such an amazing man.

I admired him since I was very young. Reading about him in some of the few pieces on Iran who actually covered black activists like him.

His songs, became part of my first love to alternative music (from young teenage boy growing up in southern Iran point of interest) and waa delighted to find his albums at the Västerås StadsBibliotrk in Sweden.

His work to fight injustice didn't stop in US, and he fought with all his power against the apartheid regime of South Africa.

He was a great artist and a great man. R. I. P. Mr. Blafonte and thank you for opening my eyes and ears to a whole new wonderful world of music and widen my my narrow interes in my young days.

Singer, actor and human rights activist Harry Belafonte died Tuesday at age 96 of congestive heart failure. He broke racial barriers and balanced his activism with his artistry in ways that made people around the world listen. Belafonte, who was an EGOT holder for his Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards, died at his home in New York, his publicist announced.

Style, class and charisma: That was Harry Belafonte as a performer. In the 1950s, his recordings for RCA Victor, which included his iconic version of the Jamaican folk song "Day-O" (also known as "The Banana Boat Song") set off a craze for calypso music. With his good looks and his shirt unbuttoned to his chest, audiences — Black and white — adored Belafonte at a time when most of America was still segregated.

Harry Belafonte, the singer, actor and civil rights activist who broke down racial barriers, has died aged 96. RIP

Harry Belafonte Reflects on Life as a Singer, Actor and Activist

Harold George Bellanfanti, Jr .Harry Belafonte (born March 1, 1927) is an American singer, songwriter, actor, and social activist. One of the most successful African-American pop stars in history, he was dubbed the "King of Calypso" for popularizing the Caribbean musical style (Originating in Trinidad & Tobago) with an international audience in the 1950s. His breakthrough album Calypso (1956) is the first million-selling LP by a single artist.Belafonte is perhaps best known for singing "The Banana Boat Song", with its signature lyric "Day-O". He has recorded in many genres, including blues, folk, gospel, show tunes, and American standards. He has also starred in several films, most notably in Otto Preminger's hit musical Carmen Jones (1954), Island in the Sun (1957), and Robert Wise's Odds Against Tomorrow (1959).

Belafonte was an early supporter of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 1960s, and one of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s confidants. Throughout his career, he has been an advocate for political and humanitarian causes, such as the anti-apartheid movement and USA for Africa. Since 1987, he has been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. In recent years, he has been a vocal critic of the policies of both the George W. Bush and Barack Obama presidential administrations. Harry Belafonte now acts as the American Civil Liberties Union celebrity ambassador for juvenile justice issues.

Belafonte has won three Grammy Awards, including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, an Emmy Award, and a Tony Award. In 1989, he received the Kennedy Center Honors. He was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 1994. In 2014, he received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the Academy's 6th Annual Governors Awards. In March 2014, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Belafonte was born Harold George Bellanfanti, Jr. at Lying-in Hospital on March 1, 1927, in Harlem, New York, the son of Melvine (née Love), a housekeeper of Jamaican descent, and Harold George Bellanfanti, Sr., a Martiniquan who worked as a chef. His mother was born in Jamaica, the child of a Scottish white mother and a black father. His father also was born in Jamaica, the child of a black mother and Dutch Jewish father of Sephardi origins. Belafonte has described his grandfather, whom he never met, as “a white Dutch Jew who drifted over to the islands after chasing gold and diamonds, with no luck at all”. From 1932 to 1940, he lived with one of his grandmothers in her native country of Jamaica. When he returned to New York City, he attended George Washington High School after which he joined the Navy and served during World War II.[9] In the 1940s, he was working as a janitor's assistant in NYC when a tenant gave him, as a gratuity, two tickets to see the American Negro Theater. He fell in love with the art form and also met Sidney Poitier. The financially struggling pair regularly purchased a single seat to local plays, trading places in between acts, after informing the other about the progression of the play. At the end of the 1940s, he took classes in acting at the Dramatic Workshop of The New School in New York with the influential German director Erwin Piscator alongside Marlon Brando, Tony Curtis, Walter Matthau, Bea Arthur, and Sidney Poitier, while performing with the American Negro Theatre. He subsequently received a Tony Award for his participation in the Broadway revue John Murray Anderson's Almanac.

#DownloadWhileYouCan ;D #TheIgnoranceThatDiesIsNotYou

Some few snippets from the first quarter I've attempted to transcribe accurately:

Jane: "there are many government documents which indicate, the only way to get a lot of people infected with the virus is by vaccinating them. And if people refuse the vaccines, then this virus is just not going to happen and spread, however much they hype it. If people refuse to take the vaccines, then it's not going to become a major problem."

...

Jane: "...whether pharmaceutical companies influenced the world health organisation to make these declarations that they could then sell these gigantic quantities of vaccine at huge profit."

Bill: "so we have a kind of flu-gate here?"

Jane: "we have a flu-gate.
And this report is due to be finished in June. And Paul Flynn indicated to me might even look at the Baxter Institute as part of his report."

Bill "Tell people about the baxter institute, if they're seeing this for the first time."

Jane: "Well, in February of last year, about 1 year ago, Baxter contaminated 72 kilos of vaccine material with the live bird flu virus in their facilities in Moderna in Austria. And this nearly triggered a global bird flu pandemic. And there are many reasons to think this was deliberate. The main one is that bio-safety level 3 regulations have to be used when anybody handles the bird flu virus, and this makes an accidental contamination almost impossible. I filled charges, and police started investigating, but they dropped the charges at end of September, just before the mass vaccination campaign, and just before Baxter sought approval for its swine flu vaccine. And I asked to see the files, to see the basis in which the state prosecutor dropped the charges. I was refused access to the files. So I emailed Paull Flynn asked him whether he would look into this matter, by virtue of his power as a member of this case body, he could probably force the state prosecutor to hand over these files or even question executives to get to bottom of this incident. I think a proper inquiry will most likely show that it was a deliberate attempt by a pharmaceutical company to trigger the very pandemic that they then profit from by being able to sell these pandemic vaccinations in gigantic quantities."

...

Bill: "... or is there a possibility of a whitewash here?"

Jane: "Well I think if Paul Flynn simply documents the facts, the facts about how toxic the vaccine is, that it was only given to people in special emergency, the regulations were in place that allowed these untested vaccines to be administered, if he documents the facts that we could have been forced to have taken this vaccine under the international health regulations, that there's a military style management of the pandemic, that it was planned, and indeed in France came within a few days of martial law in December, nurses and doctors were requisitioned and forced to give this vaccine to people in vaccine centers. And if he documents all of this, as well as Baxter incident, that will be enough to create an explosive report which will then be sent to 47 parliaments in Europe, to Switzerland, to Ukraine, to Russia, to the countries of the block of the European Union. They will then have to consider this report, and I think if they investigate and look into it, it could well come to a series of arrests and scandals in each country. The media, as we know, in the meantime, is totally controlled of course, by the pharmaceutical/banking group, the shadow government. People like James Murdoch the son of Rupert Murdoch, who is, I think, in control of the news corporation's European arm, sits on the board of Glaxo-Smith Klein, which produces pandemic vaccine. Thomas Glocer the CEO of Reuters, who sits on the board of Merc

So the media will not be telling us

about all these dramatic developments, whatever. But behind the media screen we could see tremendous numbers of arrests, and renewal and changes in our government, on an unprecedented scale. Because the facts alone are so shocking."

....

"so long as this #PandemicEmergencyLevel6 is in place, it can issue drugs, that are untested, to people, so we can be getting all kinds of drugs now, that haven't been adequately tested. It can take control of the health services, the military and the police in countries, and create this sort of ... um... cement the shadow governments infrastructure. So, apart from all of this, this shadow group is also involved in the climate-gate scandal and the financial crisis, is trying to instigate wars, famines, sending these vaccines to the developing world. So, we can't just say it's all over. It isn't."

"We need to go a little further."

We knew back then. What happened?

#Assange's head on a spike in front of the palace shut you all up?

Head up, stout chest, glowing strong, stand firm. We can still mend this. #WeCanStillMendThis
