"President Biden is our best chance for meaningful climate action.

He's already taken bold steps to address the climate crisis: Last month, he announced the U.S.'s commitment to cutting greenhouse gas emissions in half by the end of the decade, and he will invest a whopping 40% of climate funding into the communities that have been most impacted by climate change — which is exactly where it should go!

But success is far from guaranteed. With razor-thin pro-environment majorities in both chambers of Congress, and fierce resistance from big polluters, our window of opportunity for tackling the climate crisis is narrow.

The last four years were a nightmare for people and the environment. The Trump administration and its polluter pals did everything in their power to put profits above all else — and the low-income communities and communities of color already disproportionately burdened by the climate crisis and pollution have overwhelmingly paid the price. Enough of that!

We need to make up for lost time — not just undoing Trump's dangerous attacks, but also accelerating toward a new era of bold climate action:

... Cutting greenhouse gas pollution in half by 2030? Yes!
... Creating millions of clean energy jobs and investing in underserved communities? Absolutely!
... Supporting the battle for climate justice in communities of color disproportionately impacted by fossil fuel pollution and climate change? No doubt!
... Going big with investments like expanding electric vehicle charging stations, strengthening the grid, and capping and cleaning up millions of abandoned oil and gas wells? For sure!
... Protecting oceans, forests, wetlands, and other natural resources? You got it!

If we're going to avert a climate catastrophe, we need our elected officials to step up and make climate action a top priority — but we all have to do our part to make them feel the heat.

"Children all over the U.S. are drinking water contaminated with lead.

This water comes through deteriorating lead pipes into the taps in their homes and old drinking fountains in their schools. Lead-contaminated water harms children's brains and nervous systems, causing learning disabilities and impairing their hearing — and has been for decades.

We need action now — and President Biden's American Jobs Plan will help us get there.

Biden's plan will invest more than $100 billion in fixing our water infrastructure, including replacing all lead service lines across the country. He also has called for action on lead in school water. Now we need Congress to save our children from lead poisoning by passing strong legislation to fix our infrastructure, create jobs, and invest in our communities.

Our water infrastructure is failing. There are still 6 to 10 million lead service lines in place across the U.S., some of which are more than 100 years old. As they corrode, they release lead into the water we drink, threatening people's health.

And through decades of neglect and disinvestment, the problem is even more severe in low-income communities and communities of color.

Flint, Michigan made headlines six years ago for its contaminated water after engineers found high levels of lead in the tap water in homes — and doctors found dangerous amounts of lead in children's blood.

But Flint isn't the only city that has suffered from widespread lead problems: Lead service lines are found in all 50 states, from big cities to small towns. Newark, Chicago, Detroit, Milwaukee, Jackson, Atlanta and dozens of other cities have found dangerous levels of lead in many residents' tap water.

The Senate took a step forward last month when senators overwhelmingly passed the Drinking Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Act of 2021, which would authorize modestly increased funding for clean water programs, including replacing some lead service lines — but it's not nearly enough to remove them all.

And the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is considering a new, stronger Lead and Copper Rule, a woefully outdated and inadequate federal protection meant to limit lead in drinking water.

But our work is far from done. We won't stop until all the nation's children are safe from lead poisoning from drinking water.

President Biden's American Jobs Plan will:

• Remove all lead service lines in every state at no direct cost to homeowners
• Get people back to work and create new good-paying jobs removing lead service lines
• Expedite the removal of lead service lines in low-income communities and communities of color suffering disproportionately from the impacts of lead-contaminated water, and begin to tackle the crisis of lead in school drinking water
• Make drinking water infrastructure across the country stronger and more resilient in the face of climate change-driven extreme weather, like the winter storms in Texas and other states that cut water service for millions

We need Congress to make these goals a reality. But our senators and representatives are unlikely to act without a lot more pressure from millions of people across the country who care deeply about clean water for all.

Kohle-, Öl- und Gasunternehmen gehören nicht in einen grünen Wiederaufbauplan. Gemeinsam können wir ein für alle Mal sicherstellen, dass Unternehmen für fossile Brennstoffe keine Subventionen erhalten, aber wir haben nur 2 Tage, um zu reagieren.

Die Präsidentin der Europäischen Kommission, Ursula von der Leyen, hat einen Gesetzesentwurf veröffentlicht der ausschließt, dass die fossile Industrie öffentlichen Gelder erhalten würde- das ist ein Fortschritt! Aber, wie zu erwarten, geht die mächtige Lobby der fossilen Konzerne jetzt in die Vollen und wehrt sich dagegen.

Interessanterweise könnte die Europäische Kommission unsere Verbündete sein. Sie hat eine überraschende Umfrage gestartet, um Feedback von der Öffentlichkeit einzuholen. Wir vermuten, dass sie unsere Unterstützung brauchen, um die Lobbygruppen der Öl-, Gas und Kohle-Konzerne zu übertönen. Denn sie wissen, was wir wissen: Bürger*innen wollen einen grünen Wiederaufbau.

Das vorgeschlagene Gesetz definiert, was als "grüne" Investition gelten würde. Wir können dafür sorgen, dass es weiter geht, als fossile Brennstoffe auszuschließen. Das Verbrennen von Bäumen oder Pflanzen zur Energiegewinnung, Massentierhaltung, umweltverschmutzende Fracht und Kreuzfahrtschiffe schaden ebenfalls unserem Planeten und Gesundheit und sollten nicht auf der Liste "grüner" Aktivitäten stehen, die EU-Gelder erhalten.

"Each winter, billions of honeybees are prematurely woken from hibernation, trucked into California and exposed to a “soup” of bacteria, parasites and toxic pesticides -- so they can serve as pollinators for the fast-growing almond milk industry.

They end up sick and exhausted, and many don’t make it back. Every year, up to 30 percent die.

Our fragile bees deserve better -- and almond milk drinkers deserve a truly animal-friendly product.

The good news is there are ways to grow almonds that don’t kill or harm bees. But Blue Diamond (maker of Almond Breeze), the number-one almond milk brand in the world, won't commit to using 100 percent bee-friendly almonds. Danone, maker of Silk and Alpro, says it's aiming for bee-friendly certification, but has yet to commit to a concrete timeline for a complete transition.

We’ve got to use public pressure to get almond milk corporations in the bees' corner -- before it’s too late.

Almond milk is the world’s most popular plant milk, outselling alternatives like soy, coconut and oat milk nearly five to one. And the vast majority of almonds that go into it come from pesticide-soaked monocultures in California’s Central Valley.

Almond milk corporations are reaping billions in profits from consumers who care about the environment. They should be doing everything they can to make their product sustainable, not cutting corners with megafarms that take their bees for granted (on top of overtapping California's limited water supply).

That’s why bee experts have explained exactly how almond farms can create a healthier habitat for bees. And if enough of us come together, we can make sure every almond milk maker gets on board.

Blue Diamond, Danone and others are scrambling to protect their products’ wholesome image after January’s Guardian exposé on bees and almond milk. Now is the perfect time to push for a bee-saving almond revolution!

Our research suggests that brands are making some progress: Alpro sources almonds from bee-friendlier habitats in the Mediterranean where it's piloted conservation schemes, while Silk has worked to increase biodiversity on some California farms. But neither parent company Danone, nor competitor Blue Diamond (which lags further behind), have committed to a total supply chain revamp, let alone a concrete timeline for using only almonds from bee-friendly certified orchards.

Bees go through so much to bring us the food we eat every day. It’s only right that we give something back. And again and again, SumOfUs members like you have come to the bees’ aid when they needed you. You’ve pushed for bans on some of the deadliest bee-killing pesticides, and forced governments in Europe and Canada to pass laws protecting bees’ health over Bayer and Syngenta’s profits.

Telling off the **MRC** & the** Laotian top guns**:
"Every member of the MRC and of the National Mekong Committees of the Four Lower Mekong countries (Thailand, Laos, Cambodia & Vietnam) KNOWS that Hydropower:
Is NOT sustainable; is NOT a Clean & Green Energy technology; is a constant source of GHG emissions (CO2, CH4, N2O); is blocking fish migrations since Nov. 2012; is risking the Food Security of 60 Million poor; is leading to the extinction of hundreds of aquatic species including the Giant Cat Fish, Giant Ray, Irrawaddy Dolphins, and dozens of fish species vital to the diet of communities in the Mekong River; is significantly reducing Biodiversity; is blocking a high percentage of vital sediments and nutrients that ensure the productivity of the river; is changing the geo-morphology of the river; is further damaging the Tonle Sap lake & Wetlands – i.e. fisheries nursery areas; is reducing water quality and thereby affecting the health of millions of people who depend on it for survival, and affecting aquatic life; is ensuring the sinking of the Delta by lack of sediments that keep it afloat, which are being withheld by the sediments blocked by the upstream Dams; is ruining the productivity of the Delta both on land and in the aquatic ecosystem by lack of rich nutrients; is promoting an “Environmental Refugees Exodus“ with Farmers forced to leave the Delta because of sinking lands ruined by salinization; is impacting the economies of Vietnam and Cambodia by loss of fisheries & productive lands, among other issues.

Hydropower Dams in the Mekong basin are actually INCREASING POVERTY and Despair, instead of “improving the standard of living and decreasing poverty” as falsely advertised. It is displacing tens of thousands of people from poor communities from their homes, lands and cultural sites, while offering a dismal compensation, which does not support the people to cultivate food or to fish, forcing them into a “market-life style” promoted by the Chinese, but without appropriate training nor money for food! (Despite the empty promises by the Developers to provide training).

Biodiversity is deeply interlinked with Food Security & Nutrition, and they all depend on a Sustainable Ecosystem. Thereby the need to protect ecosystems that support high biodiversity such as the Mekong River! The idiocy of knowingly building Hydropower Dams, which are NOT sustainable developments, puts at RISK the Biodiversity, the Food Security, Nutrition & Health of 60 Million poor people in SE Asia! As the F.A.O. (2017) clearly stipulates in its latest ‘Guidelines on Assessing Biodiverse Foods in dietary intake surveys’:

“Current foods systems are facing mounting challenges to provide growing populations with safe, diverse and nutritionally adequate foods because of resource constraints, environmental degradation as well as the continual narrowing of the food base and the loss of biodiversity. Biodiversity is intricately intertwined with food security and nutrition, for it is critical to the availability of nutrients needed to support health and well-being, as well as to the sustainability of the natural resource base upon which food systems rely.
