The Decline is Observable

It’s rapidly becoming readily apparent to everyone, not just me, #WangHunin, #Simplicius, and #AndreiMartyanov, that the decline of the #imperial #UnitedStates is both a) inevitable and b) observable.

The best indicator of #real #GDP per #capita is #energy usage per capita, because everything about a comfortable modern lifestyle takes a lot of energy, energy comes into everything people do and consume. This was rising exponentially to #1972, when the rise suddenly halted. It then started fall, slowly. And suddenly it has now started to fall rather more quickly and dramatically. It looks like three trend regimes: Exponential growth starting in the seventeenth century, then #stagnation and slow decline starting in 1972, and now it looks like the beginning of #dramatic #collapse, looks like the beginning of a sharp break in the trend of slow and gentle decline.

This reflects a #regime ever more #hostile to the #men who made it great, to the #faith that made it great, the #culture that made it great, and #race that made it great.

Notice that no matter what metric is used, 1972-1973 keeps appearing as the high water mark for the #USA. That’s not an accident. 1972 was, from an economic, industrial, and demographic perspective, the moment of Peak America.

Everything since then has been nothing but #decline #disguised by the #collapse of the #SovietUnion.

The time a #Soviet Destroyer saved American Lives

On June 8, 1967 the now infamous false-flag attack on the USS Liberty occured. While the incident is now well known online, what is not is that the crew of the vessel were saved by Russian intervention.

At the time of the incident, an SOS put out by the American crew was detected by nearby Soviet forces, resulting in Destroyer 626/4 arriving to the aid of the American ship. As a result, the Israelis were forced to stop their attack at a moment where they had teams ready to board the ship.

That the Russian vessel saved the Americans is attested to both in official documents, including a 1983 declassified memo by the U.S. Navy and NSA documents from 2011. Likewise, Pravda interviewed two Liberty crew members in 2002, with both stating the Russian intervention likely saved their lives. Amid the twin conflicts today, this is something to keep in mind.

The "nationalist" True Finns' Party will be included in #Finland's next coalition government. This signals a closer alignment of Finland with #NATO; the #TrueFinns are known for their anti-Russian stance and are the only party in Finland which openly advocates for the return of Eastern àKarelia, #Vyborg (Viipuri) and #Pechenga (Petsämö) - previously Finnish territories annexed by the #SovietUnion in 1940.

There goes about #Nordic Country deep into a #fascist route in the shadow of popular #Russia phobia everyone is OK with. This is the new red scare that build up the #Nazi party in the 1930s, #Communism is replaced with #Greens, #Liberals, #Socialists, #Liberals and Russians. #Jews have been replaced with #Muslims and the #Natioanlists are getting their feet into every government in #Europe.

On the 27th January 1945 : Soviet-Jewish soldier David Dushman liberated Auschwitz concentration camp by driving his T-35 Soviet tank through the barbed wire electric fence of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in occupied Poland, thereby initiating the liberation of the camp by allowing Red Army ground troops in the 322nd Rifle Division to enter the camp.

  • "Skeletons everywhere, they stumbled out of the barracks and lay among the dead. Terrible. We threw them all of our canned food and immediately drove on, to hunt fascists,"

After the war he went on to become an Olympic fencer. He passed away at age 98 on June 4th, 2021

Capitalism vs Socialism is NOT Markets vs Planning

https://yewtu.be/watch?v=K-jCqjM4Kmc

#ProfWolff shows how the #economics of existing capitalist and socialist economies make use of both #markets and #planning. The opposition of markets and planning is largely false and has worked to distract students and observers of economic systems from better differentiations such as how they differently #organize their #workplaces: #hierarchical in the case of #capitalist, #democratic in the case of #worker-cooperatives. Some major implications of this critique of the "planning versus market" obsession are discussed in relation to the #US, #SovietUnion, and #China.

Surovikin’s name might sound familiar to people old enough to remember the failed 1991 Soviet coup. Now 55 years old, #Surovikin once served in the Soviet special forces, including in #Afghanistan. During the 1991 coup attempt, the then-24-year-old was in charge of the 2nd Guards Motor Rifle Division, which tried to break through the barricades at the intersection of #Moscow’s Garden Ring and Novy Arbat Avenue. Three protesters were killed in the clashes: Dmitry Komar, Ilya Krichevsky, and Vladimir Usov. After the coup plotters’ swift defeat, the three men were posthumously named Heroes of the #SovietUnion. Surovikin spent several months in custody, but the charges against him were ultimately lifted (the Moscow Prosecutor's Office determined that he had been “carrying out the orders of his command”).

Take the United States today. It is living under a kind of totalitarian culture which has never existed in my lifetime, and is much worse in many ways than the Soviet Union before Gorbachev. Go back to the 1970s, people in the Soviet Russia could access BBC, Voice of America, German television, if they wanted to find out the news. If today, in the United States, you want to find out what [Sergei] Lavrov of Russia is saying, can't do it, it's barred. Americans are not permitted to hear what Russians are saying. Can't get Russian television, can't access Russian sources.

The Ukrainian challenge is different than that facing the Russians. The Ukrainians are defending, and they have had deep experience in this type of operation in the #Donbas region since the invasion in 2014. Whether or not they can take the offensive at any scale in the future remains to be seen.
The Russo-Ukrainian War, as of May 24, is only three months old, which is short by the standards of any major #war. One could usefully recall that it took from July 7 to September 26 in 1941 for the German assault on the #SovietUnion in Operation Barbarossa to reach and take #Kyiv. The current war appears to be evolving into a protracted war of attrition. Therefore, the Russian strategy of limited maneuver and a heavy reliance on fires may yet be sound. They seem to be learning, as Russia analyst Michael Kofman pointed out in a recent War on the Rocks podcast. This protraction of major combat operations is also beyond the experience of serving Western officers.
At the beginning of the war, Russia’s active-duty personnel and major #weapons systems allocated to the invasion significantly outnumbered that of Ukraine almost two-to-one. Accurate casualty and materiel loss data is difficult to obtain, particularly from Ukraine, where the data is understandably considered a national secret. Nevertheless, if the numbers being reported by each combatant are in the ballpark, then these running estimates show both sides are suffering significant levels of attrition, most importantly in personnel.
If this is true, then Ukraine is potentially in serious trouble if the war continues much longer.

Containment Beyond the Cold War
How Washington Lost the Post-Soviet Peace
By M. E. Sarotte – Foreign Affairs

On December 15, 1991, U.S. Secretary of State James Baker arrived in Moscow amid political chaos to meet with Russian leader Boris Yeltsin, who was at the time busy wresting power from his nemesis, Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev. Yeltsin had recently made a shocking announcement that he and the leaders of Belarus and Ukraine were dismantling the Soviet Union. Their motive was to render Gorbachev impotent by transforming him from the head of a massive country into the president of nothing.

In the short run, it was a brilliant move, and within ten days, it had succeeded completely. Gorbachev resigned, and the Soviet Union collapsed. The long-term consequences, however, were harder to grasp.

Even before Yeltsin’s gambit, Baker had begun worrying about whether the desire of some Soviet republics to become independent might yield bloodshed. On November 19, 1991, he had asked one of Gorbachev’s advisers, Alexander Yakovlev, if Ukraine’s breaking away would prompt violent Russian resistance. Yakovlev was skeptical and responded that there were 12 million Russians in Ukraine, with “many in mixed marriages,” so “what sort of war could it be?” Baker answered simply: “A normal war.”

Sixty years of #climate #change warnings: the signs that were missed (and ignored)

source: https://www.theguardian.com/science/2021/jul/05/sixty-years-of-climate-change-warnings-the-signs-that-were-missed-and-ignored

“The climate change began in 1960,” the report’s first page informs us, “but no one, including the climatologists, recognised it.” Crop failures in the #SovietUnion and India in the early 1960s had been attributed to standard unlucky #weather. The US shipped grain to #India and the Soviets killed off livestock to eat, “and premier Nikita #Khrushchev was quietly deposed”.
