In his (highly recommendable) book "The Russian Art of #War", the former Swiss military intelligence officer Jacques Baud described the reason why the current fighting in Ukraine started out as a "Special Military Operation" within a larger context:

The use of the word "war" would imply a different structure of conduct than that envisioned by the Russians in Ukraine, and would have other structural implications in Russia itself. Moreover - and this is a central point - as #NATO Secretary General Jens #Stoltenberg himself acknowledges,"the war began in 2014" and should have been ended by the #Minsk Agreements. The #SMO is therefore a "military operation" and not a new "war", as many Western "experts" claim.

According to him, guerrilla fighters and partisans linked to Bypol have already conducted small successful operations in #Belarus. They sabotaged railways carrying Russian troops to #Ukraine last spring and in February this year Bypol claimed responsibility for blowing up a Russian reconnaissance plane at an airport near #Minsk with two small drones (which as previously reported here, did not happen)

General a. D. Harald Kujat: Der #Ukrainekrieg ist nicht nur eine militärische Auseinandersetzung; er ist auch ein Wirtschafts- und ein Informationskrieg. In diesem #Informationskrieg kann man zu einem Kriegsteilnehmer werden, wenn man sich Informationen und Argumente zu eigen macht, die man weder verifizieren noch aufgrund eigener Kompetenz beurteilen kann. Zum Teil spielen auch als moralisch verstandene oder ideologische Motive eine Rolle. Das ist in #Deutschland besonders problematisch, weil in den #Medien überwiegend „Experten“ zu Wort kommen, die über keine sicherheitspolitischen und strategischen Kenntnisse und Erfahrungen verfügen und deshalb Meinungen äußern, die sie aus Veröffentlichungen anderer „Experten“ mit vergleichbarer Sachkenntnis beziehen. Offensichtlich wird damit auch politischer Druck auf die Bundesregierung aufgebaut.

General a. D. Harald Kujat: … ja, was sie sagt, ist eindeutig. Sie hätte das #Minsk II-Abkommen nur ausgehandelt, um der Ukraine Zeit zu verschaffen. Und die Ukraine habe diese auch genutzt, um militärisch aufzurüsten. Das hat der ehemalige französische Präsident Hollande bestätigt.

Petro Poroschenko, der ehemalige ukrainische Staatspräsident, hat das ebenfalls gesagt.

General a. D. Harald Kujat: Russland bezeichnet das verständlicherweise als Betrug. Und Merkel bestätigt, dass Russland ganz bewusst getäuscht wurde. Das kann man bewerten, wie man will, aber es ist ein eklatanter #Vertrauensbruch und eine Frage der politischen Berechenbarkeit.
