Another US precision-guided #weapon has apparently been foiled by Russian electronic warfare, a #Pentagon official said.

The munition, which was rapidly developed and transported to #Ukraine, is just the latest to fail in combat, highlighting the growing challenge of countering cheap Russian jamming tactics.

Last week, William LaPlante, the undersecretary of defense for acquisition and sustainment, said a new version of a US precision weapon had failed to hit Russian targets partially because of Russian electronic warfare. LaPlante told a Center for Strategic and International Studies panel that the ground-launched weapon, a version of an air-to-ground system, had been quickly developed and deployed to Ukraine after relatively limited safety testing and little operational testing.

Once the weapon arrived in Ukraine, "it didn't work for multiple reasons," LaPlante said. Those included electromagnetic interference and complications from launching the weapon on the ground. "It just didn't work," he said.

If this weapon did fail, it would not be the first US precision-guided weapon foiled by Russian electronic warfare. The Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System, a valuable weapon for Ukraine that can be fired from its US-provided High-Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, and Joint Direct Attack Munitions have both been reported to repeatedly fail because of Russian jamming.

In December, Lt. Gen. Antonio Aguto said electronic warfare directed at some of "our most precise capabilities is a challenge."

In March, Daniel Patt, a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, told Congress the GPS-guided Excalibur artillery shells "had a 70% efficiency rate hitting targets when first used in Ukraine" but that "after six weeks, efficiency declined to only 6% as the Russians adapted their electronic-warfare systems to counter it."

According to The Washington Post, the #Biden administration will authorize the transfer of 2,000-pound bombs and other weapons to Israel despite a growing divide with the Israeli government.

The new arms packages will include over 1,800 MK84 2,000-pound bombs and 500 MK82 500-pound bombs, as reported by #Pentagon and State Department officials.

The 2,000-pound bombs have been associated with Israeli massacres of targeting and destroying civilian blocks in #Gaza, killing thousands of Palestinian women and children. The State Department has also approved the transfer of 25 F-35A fighter jets and engines, valued at approximately $2.5 billion, according to U.S. officials.

Jake Sullivan announces an arms aid package for Ukraine valued at 300 million dollars.

"This includes artillery shells and GMLRS missiles for HIMARS. This is what Ukraine needs very much to keep the front lines under Russian attacks and repel the Russian offensive in the east and other areas of the front."

If course they have money for war. Even when the congress is against that.

A few quotes:

(...) Right now, of course, the world is witnessing yet another U.S. bombing campaign, the latest in a series that seems all too predictable (and futile), meant to teach the restless rebels of Iraq, Syria, Yemen, and possibly even Iran a lesson when it comes to messing with the United States of America. (...)

Israel is systematically destroying Gaza, rendering it essentially uninhabitable for those Palestinians who survive the ongoing rampage. In fact, early in its war of annihilation, Israeli leaders cited the Allied destruction of the German city of Dresden in 1945 in support of their own atrocious air and ground campaign against the Palestinians.

Looking at this dispassionately as a military historian, the Dresden reference makes a certain twisted sense. In World War II, the Americans and their British allies in their “combined bomber offensive” destroyed German cities indiscriminately, seeing all Germans as essentially Nazis, complicit in the crimes of their government, and so legitimate targets. Something similar is true of the right-wing Israeli government today. It sees all Palestinians as essentially members of Hamas and thus complicit in last year’s brutal October 7th attacks on Israel, making them legitimate targets of war, Israeli- (and American-) style. Just like the United States, Israel claims to be “defending democracy” whatever it does. Little wonder, then, that Washington has been so willing to send bombs and bullets to its protégé as it seeks “peace” through massive firepower and genocidal destruction. (...)

Putting [the issue of genocide] aside, it’s undeniable that Israel has been using indiscriminate bombing attacks and a devastating invasion in a near-total war against Palestinians living on that 25-mile-long strip of land, an approach that calls to mind the harrowing catchphrase “Exterminate all the brutes!” from Joseph Conrad’s novel Heart of Darkness. (...)

Try to imagine such events from the perspective of a historian writing in the year 2200. Might that future scribe not refer to repeated U.S. invasions of, incursions into, and bombing campaigns across the Middle East as a bloody crusade, launched under the (false) banner of democracy with righteous vengeance, if not godly purpose, in mind? Might that historian not suggest that such a “crusade” was ultimately more about power and profit, domination and control than (as advertised) “freedom”? And might that historian not be impressed (if not depressed) by the remarkable way the U.S. brought seemingly unending chaos and death to the region over such a broad span of time?

Consider these facts. More than 22 years after the 9/11 attacks, the U.S. still has at least 30,000 troops scattered across the Middle East. At least one Navy carrier strike group, and often two, dominate the regional waters, while striking numbers of military bases (“Little Americas”) are still sprinkled across countries ranging from Kuwait to Bahrain, from Qatar to the United Arab Emirates and beyond. So many years later, about 900 U.S. troops still illegally occupy part of Syria (not coincidentally, where that country produces most of its oil) and 2,500 more remain in Iraq, even though the government there would like them to depart. Not from the Onion: Pentagon: The groups allied with the Islamic Republic of Iran have a specific goal, which is to force the American forces to leave the region.

We know that Iran provides arms, financial and intelligence support to Islamic movements in the region and orders them to attack.

These MFers think they actually have a right to invade any country in the world and then calling locals who resist their illegal occupation for terrorists.

I despise IRI and their religious followers, but I hate US and UK even more because those pigs are the reason the whole region is in such sad and horrible shape.

#Reasoning

It is by no means clear if Iran was involved in the #Jordan base raid. #Tehran strongly denies it and even the #Pentagon has admitted there is no evidence showing #Iran had a hand in the drone attack.

Nevertheless, Biden has asserted Iran is to blame and that this gives the U.S. a right to respond militarily. If Biden can make that case, then the United States and its NATO allies should be held accountable for the shooting down of the IL-76 transport plane over Russia killing all onboard, according to the reasoning of none other than the US President.

The #Pentagon spokeswoman's stupid answer to the reporter's question about the war with Yemen

Reporter: Is it true to say that the United States is at #war with #Yemen?

Sabrina Singh, Pentagon spokesperson: No, we are not looking for a war, we don't think we are in a war, what we are doing is self-defense.

Reporter: We have bombed them 5 times so far... If this is not a war, then what is a war?

Pentagon spokesman: Good question! Look, we are not looking for war!

#Pentagon is worried that the cost of it's operation in the red sea maybe too high for them to handle.

"Using a $2M missile to intercept a home made missile that cost $2000 is going to be expensive in the long run".

#Italy haa also said they are sending some of their navy to the red sea to help with the operation.

It's just amazing that the richest countries in the world are gathered all in one place to fight against the poorest country in the world in order to please the apartheid regime of #Israel and to make sure they can go on with their genocidal war in #Gaza.

US Congress passed $886 billion defense policy bill void of most GOP culture-war demands

🔶️ Passage of the compromise legislation was a rebuke of hard-line House conservatives who had targeted #Pentagon policies on abortion, diversity and LGBTQ+ rights

🔶️ The compromise bill approved Thursday is void of nearly all of the hard right’s culture-war provisions — including a measure that would have barred the Defense Department from reimbursing the travel costs of U.S. service members who travel out of state to obtain an abortion. And several members of the far-right House Freedom Caucus took to the House floor Thursday morning to assail the bill as a betrayal of conservative values.

The White House has warned #Congress that the U.S. would completely run out of resources to assist #Kiev regime by the end of the calendar year, Bloomberg reported.

"There is no magical pot of funding available to meet this moment. We are out of money — and nearly out of time," a White House spokeswoman said in a letter.
