Like Trump, Yoon Suk Yeol won a very narrow victory in his election. He blathers about "fake news" and his "enemies," and sought to impose martial law – "as will Trump if he decides to invoke the Insurrection Act…."

OTOH, N. Korean troops might see this as a prime opportunity to get the hell outta N. Korea.

Why? Because Putin is still operating under the Protecting Ethnic Russians theory, that's why. If he puts any of his Precious out on the front lines, his whole shtik goes bust.

A ranking member of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee on Wednesday proposed the idea of redeploying U.S. tactical nuclear arms to South Korea to beef up deterrence, noting the absence of any immediate diplomatic solution to North Korea's nuclear quandary.

Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) made the proposal in a report, titled "21st Century Peace Through Strength: A Generational Investment in the U.S. Military," in which he stressed Pyongyang continues to "outpace expectations" about its nuclear and missile programs with capabilities to target the continental United States.

"Because there is no immediate diplomatic solution in sight, the United States must ensure that deterrence does not erode on the Korean Peninsula," the senator said in the report.
"That means maintaining readiness with regular U.S.-Republic of Korea military exercises, keeping a persistent U.S. military presence on the Korean Peninsula and exploring new options -- such as nuclear-sharing agreements in the Indo-Pacific and redeployment of U.S. tactical nuclear weapons on the Korean Peninsula -- to bolster deterrence on the Korean Peninsula," he added.

Not from the Onion: The DPRK sent 150 balloons filled with garbage and manure to South Korea, Yonhap news agency reported, citing Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff.

According to the South Korean military, the balloons began crossing the border on the evening of Tuesday, May 28, and fell in various locations across the country, reaching the southeastern province of South Gyeongsang.

"[We] sternly warn North Korea to immediately cease its inhumane and vulgar actions," South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

(from extreme right telegram channel) The #Argentine Armed Forces have launched Operation Griffon XVII in South Atlantic waters to strengthen their fight against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, while hundreds of fishing vessels, mainly Chinese-flagged, prey on the region’s fish stocks

➡️Griffon XVII is under the authority of the Joint Maritime Command (COCM), which through the Argentine Navy, in collaboration with the Argentine Naval Prefecture (PNA), monitors maritime traffic in the southern Atlantic.

➡️Defense Minister Luis Petri told the press on the day of the start of Griffon XVII that there are between 450 and 500 vessels, mostly Chinese, coming from the Pacific, passing through the Strait of Magellan and positioning themselves at mile 201, just outside the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

➡️The Chinese boats operating in Latin America are mostly fishing trawlers, which specialize in squid fishing and intentionally disable their Automatic Identification System (AIS) devices, a practice frequently used to avoid detection in areas where IUU fishing takes place.

⚠️ According to Washington, D.C.-based think tank the Stimson Center, China and its state-owned enterprises have the world’s largest distant water fishing fleet, with nearly 3,000 vessels. That fleet is three times larger than the fleets of #Taiwan, #Japan, #SouthKorea, and Spain combined.

“There must be coordination between the different nations adding efforts and capabilities and exchanging information against illegal fishing. China subjugates the sovereignty of Latin America in a cleary imperialist attitude, in a world where it is considered that 93 percent of the fishing reserves are already exploited to the limit.”
