SHE WAS COUGHING OUT DEMONS as soon as she stepped into our cafĂ©. I wondered if the lady, accompanied by her husband, usually coughed like that. She just kept coughing as I seated them at a table and I found it difficult to explain the menu with âcough cough coughâ every couple of seconds. I did wonder if it was evil spirits leaving, especially as her eyes were darting back and forth in a disconcerting way, but no-one had prayed; this precious couple had simply walked in the door.
I managed to take their order and after theyâd eaten went to see if they wanted anything else from the menu. The lady asked for prophecy and healing â she said she suffered from terrible panic attacks that would last days.
It was Ellieâs first day working in our cafĂ©. Iâd done some teaching with her beforehand, and now it was time for the practical training, so I called her over. She began to prophesy to the lady and quoted John 10:10 saying the enemy has tried to steal from her and her husband, but Jesus has come to bring life in all its fullness.
The woman kept coughing but managed to say that theyâd been involved in the occult and things had got bad for them in lots of ways and they also had evil spirits in their home. But they both wanted to get free and surrender their lives to Jesus.
So Ellie and I began to pray with them as they both prayed out loud and thanked Jesus for dying on the cross.
Just then the lady began to cry out in pain and put her hand to her chest. As the demons were leaving, they were trying to cause her pain and she felt like her chest was on fire. I asked if it was a bad feeling or good feeling (as the Holy Spirit can feel like fire) but she said it was extremely painful, which confirmed that it was evil spirits leaving. We told them to stop causing pain and just to go. She continued to cough more and more as the demons left and then cried and cried as she and her husband got free. She said sheâd never felt anything in her life like that before.
They both asked Jesus to come into their lives and were filled with His Holy Spirit. We gave them some literature to help them continue following Jesus and told them of local churches, as well as our free Spirit Lifestyle Classes in the cafĂ©. Other customers were sitting at tables as all this was happening, but took it all in their stride. In fact, often other customers will ask if we can help them encounter Jesus and get rid of demons or receive healing while weâre at it!
Before they left I asked the lady if sheâd had a cough for a while but she told us that her coughing had begun at the exact same moment she stepped into the cafĂ©. When I suggested it was demons leaving her because of the presence of Jesus, she nodded and said yes it definitely was.
If you have surrendered your life to Jesus and are full of His Spirit, then you carry His presence everywhere you go. Look for signs of demons leaving, of people being healed by your shadow like Peter, and of people wanting what youâve got. Like Jesus said, the fields are truly ripe for harvesting â how about being one of the workers to bring in the harvest?
