#aid

The designation by #Israel of individuals as members of #Hamas is thus: Hamas is the government and so all government officials are legitimate targets of the IDF. I suppose it means that all police officers are legitimate targets of the IDF. The result is the disintegration of any structure that might be able to coordinate #aid relief and maintain any kind of social order, leading to gangs and individuals looting aid entering the area. and as one report postulates, the disintegration of Gaza society via tribal/factional in-fighting.

I haven't found any evidence that Mabhouh was directly involved in any attack on Israel or settlers, or that he was part of any coordination of such attacks. As the Mondoweiss piece reports.

"Mabhouh was the Director of Operations of the Gaza police force, a part of the Gaza government’s civilian administration. Unlike Hamas’s military wing, the Qassam Brigades, Mabhouh did not operate clandestinely at the start of the war, because he didn’t have to — he was in charge of civil law enforcement."

A quick look at mediabiasfactcheck.com - a random choice

"Overall, we rate Mondoweiss as Left Biased and Questionable due to the blending of opinion with news, the promotion of pro-Palestinian and anti-zionist propaganda, occasional reliance on poor sources, and hate group designation by third-party pro-Israel advocates."

Not only are the "right" biased against the actions of Israel, but also the "left". And of course the Jews who run Mondonweiss.

mediabiasfactcheck runs out of the Poynter Insitiute. In 2019 it published a list of 500 "unreliable" media sources, which was almost immediately withdrawn.

Last week, the Poynter Institute for Media Studies, a non-profit journalism and research organization, published a list of 500 unreliable new websites. But the list, which included many conservative news and think tank websites, was itself unreliable, and Poynter has since retracted it.

"Soon after we published, we received complaints from those on the list and readers who objected to the inclusion of certain sites, and the exclusion of others," explained Poynter editor Barbara Allen in a statement. "We began an audit to test the accuracy and veracity of the list, and while we feel that many of the sites did have a track record of publishing unreliable information, our review found weaknesses in the methodology. We detected inconsistencies between the findings of the original databases that were the sources for the list and our own rendering of the final report."

How exactly the list found its way onto the Poynter website in the first place is a bit of a mystery. Poynter confirmed that its author, Barrett Golding, is a freelancer [for the Southern Poverty Law Center.] rather than an employee, but did not answer other questions about the process of greenlighting this project.

Israel’s ‘Flour Massacre’ – When A Crime Becomes A ‘Tragedy’

Media Lens

(...) Far from jumping through hoops ‘to be balanced and impartial,’ the BBC seems embarrassed even to associate Israel with its own crimes. A typical BBC headline read:

‘World Food Programme says northern Gaza aid convoy blocked’

Was there a landslide? Was Hamas playing politics with food aid? The headline should have read:

‘Israel blocks northern Gaza aid convoy’

(Text continues underneath the photo.)

Photo of destroyed part of Gaza
.

Or consider the damning words of the Director-General of The World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who reported this month:

‘Grim findings during @WHO visits to Al-Awda and Kamal Adwan hospitals in northern #Gaza: severe levels of malnutrition, children dying of starvation, serious shortages of fuel, food and medical supplies, hospital buildings destroyed…

‘The situation at Al-Awda Hospital is particularly appalling, as one of the buildings is destroyed.

‘Kamal Adwan Hospital is the only paediatrics hospital in the north of Gaza, and is overwhelmed with patients. The lack of food resulted in the deaths of 10 children.’

The BBC headline reporting this story read:

‘Children starving to death in northern Gaza – WHO’

Did the crops fail? If Russia had caused child starvation in Ukraine, we can be confident the words ‘Putin’ and ‘Russia’ would have appeared front and centre in BBC reporting. (...)

On 29 February, a New York Times comment piece was titled:

‘Starvation Is Stalking Gaza’s Children’

Former Guardian journalist Jonathan Cook commented:

‘Israel is choosing to starve Gaza’s children by blocking aid.’

On 5 March, a Reuters headline read:

‘As Gaza’s hunger crisis worsens, emaciated children seen at hospitals’

Author Assal Rad responded:

‘Gaza’s “hunger crisis” is not a natural phenomenon. Israel is deliberately starving Palestinians in Gaza as a weapon of war, which is an act of collective punishment and a war crime.’ (...)

At least 118 Palestinian civilians were killed and at least 760 were injured after Israeli tanks opened fire on civilians seeking food from aid trucks on al-Rashid street to the west of Gaza City. The BBC’s immediate headline reactions were full of mystery:

‘Israel-Gaza war latest: More than 100 reported killed as crowd waits for Gaza aid’ (...)

Clearly, then, it was a massacre; so why the lack of clarity? Why was the word ‘massacre’ not used to describe a textbook example of a massacre in a report supposed to verify and clarify the truth?

As we noted recently, the Glasgow Media Group examined four weeks (7 October – 4 November, 2023) of BBC One daytime coverage of Gaza to identify which terms were used by journalists themselves – i.e. not in direct or reported statements – to describe Israeli and Palestinian deaths. They found that ‘murder’, ‘murderous’, ‘mass murder’, ‘brutal murder’ and ‘merciless murder’ were used a total of 52 times by journalists to refer to Israelis’ deaths but never in relation to Palestinian deaths. The group noted that:

‘The same pattern could be seen in relation to “massacre”, “brutal massacre” and “horrific massacre” (35 times for Israeli deaths, not once for Palestinian deaths); “atrocity”, “horrific atrocity” and “appalling atrocity” (22 times for Israeli deaths, once for Palestinian deaths); and “slaughter” (five times for Israeli deaths, not once for Palestinian deaths).’ (...)

EU chief says aid package for Ukraine will be approved 'with or without' Hungary's approval

In December 2023, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban blocked the deal hours after the group agreed it would formally commence full membership talks with Ukraine.

Between August and October 2023, the amount of fresh aid to Ukraine decreased by 87% compared to the same period in 2022, according to a study by the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.

#Gaza war estimated to cost Israel $48B

Israel likely to bear two-thirds of total war costs, while remaining portion will be covered by #US as #military #aid

Question is, can Israel economy survive such a shock?

They have already decided to prevent any Palestinian, either from Gaza or the occupied West Bank to ever enter to work in Israel, and planning to replace them with Israeli friendly low cost labor from India.

The outcome of this phase of the conflict will be devastating on Palestinians, but it may be as deadly for the Israeli government as well, specially of the global boycott gains momentum and stays strong even after the invasion of Gaza has ended.

Germany, Intel Agree Subsidies for Chip Plant Worth €10 Billion.

#Germany and #Intel Corp. sealed an agreement for the US company to receive #subsidies worth €10 billion ($10.9 billion) for a semiconductor manufacturing facility in the eastern part of the country, according to people familiar with the deal.

Intel initially agreed to build the facility in the city of #Magdeburg with €6.8 billion in #government #aid but postponed the start of construction at the plant because of economic headwinds.

The enhanced package now agreed will include both traditional aid in the form of financial subsidies as well as price caps on energy, according to the people.

Intel said the site is expected to create 7,000 construction jobs during the initial construction phase, as well as around 3,000 permanent high-tech jobs and tens of thousands of additional positions “across the industry ecosystem.”

Under Gelsinger, Intel has embarked on a huge expansion program aimed at recapturing its previous dominance of the industry and diversifying manufacturing hubs for critical components, currently concentrated in East Asia.
