Nevertheless, the Germans have their own signal that spring is springing. As the weather begins to brighten, small makeshift stalls appear along numerous lay-bys and country lanes, each proudly announcing that Germany’s embodiment of spring, Spargelzeit (Asparagus season), has begun.

Statement by Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on X

Seriously, what would they have done if their consulate was bombed and their staff were murdered by say Iraqi resistance or Yemeni rebels?

Would they have the same kind of understanding?

What did US do when e of it's occupying soldiers were killed when they were in syria? Did they refrain from retaliation?

Fuck Abdollahian and IRI, but these people are out of their minds trying to protect the terrorist regime of Israel.

At the Deutsches Museum in Munich

This is a real gem. The museum sits on an island in the city's Isar river and is one of the most exciting places to go. The focus is history and applied science and technology.

One, for sheer size (can spend a full day in there easily), and two for nifty details in architecture (roof terrace, see photo, and underground tunnels) and every exhibition (interactivity in all parts).

An excellent team is running the thing on a consistently high level.

An interview with Nancy Fraser, who had her Albertus-Magnus-Professorship cancelled by Uni #Köln bc of her stance toward #Palestine.

She received an Email from the organising Professor telling her that there were concerns about her signing an open letter “Philosphy for Palestine”* and that she should clarify her views. Her reaction (in mind): How dare you …! 👍

#Ukraine Considers Banning #Telegram if App is Confirmed as “Threat to National Security”

The Ukrainian parliament has been studying a bill since last week that threatens to shut Telegram down.

The measure, which has proven very unpopular but has garnered the support of deputies from four political groups in the Rada – 72% of Ukrainians use Telegram as their main source of information, a study found last year.

Ukrainian citizens can currently consult Telegram without limits, as opposed to surfing the internet or following news outlets regulated by Kiev’s media law.

PS. #France has quietly pushed blocking of telegram channels, the same in #Sweden and #Germany. But the app itself is still not banned here.

"Today the German pro-Zionist („antideutsch“) club ://about blank denied entry to at least three Jewish activists. @about.blank.berlin had announced a panel discussion on antisemitism featuring no Jewish speakers (it seems like they found one Jewish speaker at the last minute). They were worried that Jews in the audience might disrupt their discussion, so they wouldn’t let them in.

This is Germany’s Staatsräson in a nutshell: „We want to fight antisemitism — but we don’t want any Jews around when we do it!“ I wonder if all German newspapers will feature big headlines about a cultural space excluding Jews — I wouldn’t hold my breath."

German state of Schleswig-Holstein ditches Windows, Microsoft Office for Linux and LibreOffice

An old fashioned wooden sailing ship in the background on a canal. On both sides of the canal are tall wooden houses with Tudor style-woodwork. In the foreground is a group of penguins.
Schleswig-Holstein, Germany’s most northern state, is starting its switch from Microsoft Office to LibreOffice, and is planning to move from Windows to Linux on the 30,000 PCs it uses for local government functions.

The announcement (in German) was made yesterday by the state’s Minister-President Daniel Gunther, who has served in that position since 2017. According to a translated version of the announcement, independence was a key motivation for switching to open source software.

This is unlike the reasons that were given by Munich and Lower Saxony which were stayed to be cost savings, and then Microsoft discounted their services. Back when LiMux started, it was mostly seen as a way to save money. Now the focus is far more on data protection, privacy and security. Consider that the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) recently found that the European Commission’s use of Microsoft 365 breaches data protection law for EU institutions and bodies.”
