Why Putin is in no hurry to end the conflict in Ukraine

This is a complex issue. However, objectively, the conflict has reached a very protracted stage.

Reason one is the most important. A quick end would have required substantial mobilization of both soldiers and industry. This would have caused economic and social upheaval. The screws might have to be tightened.

All of which the Kremlin does not want. The strategy of slowly killing the Ukroreich allows social and economic stability to be maintained. Economic growth of about 4 percent is expected this year.

Yes, there are costs in the form of shelling, refugee losses in the army. But these problems are localized, not comprehensive.

Therefore, the choice is made in favor of though painful costs, but of a private nature, while the general picture of a peacefully living and developing Russia is preserved.

Our geopolitical enemy, Europe in general and Germany in particular, is experiencing significant economic turmoil.

The further the conflict lasts, the longer the sanctions from Germany will be in force.

This means that the EU will not get cheap gas, oil and will not be able to sell us the products of its automobile and aircraft industry.

This is very profitable for us. During this time it is possible and necessary to develop our industry as oil and gas chemical and machine building, including transportation.

Therefore, the longer the EU sanctions last, the better for us in every sense.

Again, there is a good chance of destroying part of the chemical and engineering industries there. That will clear a place for us on the world markets. Unemployed Germans, French and other Italians can be hired to populate the empty villages of Central Russia, as well as the expanses of Siberia and the Far East.

As soon as sanctions are lifted. Gazprom will immediately start pumping gas to the West, and Volkswagen will come back with its cars. This will slow down the development of the crisis in the EU, which is obviously disadvantageous to us.

That's why #Putin is in no hurry. He is acting slowly but surely.

The End of Schengen

#Germany has finally bowed to the inevitable and will be bringing the era of free movement across #Europe to an end:

Germany will bring in controls on all its land #borders to deal with the ‘continuing burden’ of #migration and ‘Islamist #terrorism’, the country’s interior minister has told the #EU.

Nancy Faeser of the struggling Social Democrat party (SPD) has finally accepted that Germany has no choice but to enforce proper border controls if it has any hope of coping with the staggering amount of unauthorised entries.

According to German newspaper Bild, the new rules will see ‘harsh rejections of #migrants at the borders’.

Faeser has reportedly already informed the #EU #Commission of the decision, which is fuelled by deep-rooted panic over Germany’s current migrant situation and internal #security #threats.

I lived in #Europe pre-Schengen, and I won’t lie, it was really nice to be able to blitz right through the borders that used to take up to 45 minutes to get through. But what was convenient for day-trippers and tourists has been an absolute #nightmare due to the #criminals and #migrants who were also provided with easy and invisible movement throughout the #EuropeanUnion states and the non-EU #Schengen signees.

This has been coming for two or three years now; we’ve seen some of the big border infrastructure being built at the #borders of #France and #Spain, even though it isn’t being used yet. The police mostly use the toll booths as an ersatz border, but that only works for the highways.

#Brexit marked the beginning of the end for the EU, but the effective demise of Schengen marks another important step.

European abandons all rationality in the Ukraine Proxy War, and risks destroying itself - Michael von der Schulenburg, Alexander Mercouris & Glenn Diesen

Incredibly emotional discussion by von der Schulenburg (Member of the European #Parliament in #Strasbourg) about the Ukraine war, disastrous European #diplomacy and #Germany's lack of responsibility to prepare the way for peace negotiations for #Ukraine - #Europe and the #EU as war-mongering transatlantics. The Lead Villain of WWII

It wasn’t #Stalin. It wasn’t #Roosevelt. It wasn’t even #Hitler. It was Winston Churchill, whose actions during and after #WWI not only helped lay the foundations for #WWII, but who unnecessarily caused millions to lose their lives by his determination to force #Germany into a #war of #attrition.

My intention here is not to defend the actions of the #ThirdReich or any of its leaders, but only to support a narrow claim: that of all the belligerent leaders, #Churchill was the one most intent on prolonging and escalating the conflict into a world war of annihilation. #Germany and #Italy did not want it – in fact, before the conquest of Western Europe, German leaders including Hitler were skeptical that they’d be able to take on #Britain in a fight. We can be skeptical of Hitler’s motives for offering peace again and again, and for holding back against British civilians despite months and months provocations, but the fact is that Germany was offering peace, and by all accounts sincerely wanted it. After the annexation of #Poland, Hitler told other party members, “The Reich is now complete.” Would Germany have eventually attack the #SovietUnion? Perhaps. But they would not have done so in June 1941 if #England had agreed to end a war which had no hope of victory short of expanding it into a much larger conflict, by bringing in the #USA, #USSR, or both.

Like the Turkish massacre of Armenians, the atrocities that took place in the east – for which the German perpetrators are responsible, make no mistake – could not have happened except in the chaos of a world war in which millions were already being killed. Because its so central to our founding ideology, we speak of World War 2 as if it was the best possible outcome, or certainly the least bad outcome, but any objective look shows that it was the worst possible outcome, and that it could have been avoided if not for the warmongers – chief among them #WinstonChurchill.

I’ve read Churchill’s own history of WWII. And his own justifications for his actions don’t add up even in his own words. The most damning evidence is his waging of a unilateral, one-way air war against German civilians immediately after the German military forces spared the trapped British soldiery at #Dunkirk.

There were no good men in command of the #Axis or the #Allies. But then, as now, #ClownWorld was the greater evil, as the state of our present world suffices to prove.

In 'Miss Merkel,' Germany's former chancellor is a crime-solving amateur detective

https://text.npr.org/g-s1-19962

As the title suggests, Miss Merkel is a whodunnit that imagines the former chancellor as an Agatha Christie-style detective who starts solving crimes out of sheer boredom. For want of a G7 or European Union summit, Merkel is desperate to put down the garden shears and get back to solving something, anything! This time, it’s a village murder. Move over, Miss Marple!

More interesting than ‘who did it’ is to ask ‘how did they know they could’? In other words, when a brazen crime is committed and the perpetrator gets off scot-free, the question isn’t necessary ‘how did he get away with it?’, but ‘how did he know he would get away with it?’
