“I Was Told I Couldn’t Say ’Palestinians’ or ’Gaza’ "

In an exclusive interview with TRT World, Alex #Smith, a senior official from a major US aid agency, reveals the story behind his resignation.
Scheduled to present at a government conference on Gaza, Smith was censored by the US State Department for including references to #Gaza and #Palestine.
After being told he couldn’t use terms like ’Palestinians’ or ’Israel-Gaza border,’ Smith made the difficult decision to step down.

#US / Susan Sarandon thought her politics would never harm her career. Now she tells the Sunday Times she may never act in a big-budget Hollywood movie again

[...] “There are so many people out of work right now [since] November of last year … who have lost their jobs as custodians, as writers, as painters, as people working in the cafeteria, substitute teachers who have been fired because they tweeted something, or liked a tweet, or asked for a #ceasefire,” Sarandon says.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani expressed hopes during a phone call with US President-elect Donald Trump that he would keep his "promises to work towards ending wars" in the Middle East. "The two sides agreed to coordinate efforts in achieving this goal," it added. About 2,500 American troops are deployed in Iraq as part of a US-led coalition that was formed to help battle the Islamic State group

The Biden administration is trying to send billions of dollars of military equipment to Ukraine before President-elect Donald Trump takes office, a move that is proving to be logistically challenging and raising concerns about depleting U.S. stockpiles, reports The Wall Street Journal.

According to the Journal, the Pentagon is sending to Ukraine more than 500 interceptors for the Patriot missile defense system and the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System, or #NASAMS.

Because weapons deliveries take weeks, sometimes months, the U.S. is looking into buying back weapons from other countries to give to Ukraine, according to the Journal.

More than $7 billion in drawdown authority, which allows the president to provide defense items such as ammunition and missiles from DOD's inventories to respond to foreign crises, remains unspent.

Francis Fukuyama: Donald Trump not only wants to roll back neoliberalism and woke liberalism, but is a major threat to classical liberalism itself.

The blowout victory of Donald Trump and the Republican party on Tuesday night will lead to major changes in important policy areas, from immigration to Ukraine. But the significance of the election extends way beyond these specific issues, and represents a decisive rejection by American voters of liberalism and the particular way that the understanding of a “free society” has evolved since the 1980s.

When Trump was first elected in 2016, it was easy to believe that this event was an aberration. He was running against a weak opponent who didn’t take him seriously, and in any case Trump didn’t win the popular vote. When Biden won the White House four years later, it seemed as if things had snapped back to normal after a disastrous one-term presidency.

Following Tuesday’s vote, it now seems that it was the Biden presidency that was the anomaly, and that Trump is inaugurating a new era in US politics and perhaps for the world as a whole. Americans were voting with full knowledge of who Trump was and what he represented. Not only did he win a majority of votes and is projected to take every single swing state, but the Republicans retook the Senate and look like holding on to the House of Representatives. Given their existing dominance of the Supreme Court, they are now set to hold all the major branches of government.

The rise of these distorted understandings of liberalism drove a major shift in the social basis of political power. The working class felt that leftwing political parties were no longer defending their interests, and began voting for parties of the right. Thus the Democrats lost touch with their working-class base and became a party dominated by educated urban professionals. The former chose to vote Republican. In #Europe, Communist party voters in #France and Italy defected to Marine #LePen and #GiorgiaMeloni.

All of these groups were unhappy with a free-trade system that eliminated their livelihoods even as it created a new class of super-rich, and were unhappy as well with progressive parties that seemingly cared more for foreigners and the environment than their own condition.

Donald #Trump not only wants to roll back #neoliberalism and woke #liberalism, but is a major threat to classical liberalism itself. This threat is visible across any number of policy issues; a new Trump presidency will not look anything like his first term. The real question at this point is not the malignity of his intentions, but rather his ability to actually carry out what he threatens.

Crime pays for prison management corporations.
THE UNITED STATES BUREAU OF PRISONS
Turning the management of prisons over to For Profit Corporations.
This is already in practice in many states.

  • For-profit prison management, also known as private prison management, is when a third party is contracted by a government agency to imprison people. Private prison companies are paid by the government to manage correctional facilities, and they profit by charging more than the cost of running the facility.
  • The Department of Justice's Office of Inspector General found in 2016, privately operated criminal detention facilities do not maintain the same levels of safety and security for people in the Federal criminal justice system or for correctional staff.
  • Who owns most of the corporate prisons in America CoreCivic Inc. The world's largest private prison company. It owns and operates prisons and jails, including immigration jails and “community corrections” centers, and uses forced prison labor. It also provides e-carceration technologies, transportation, and other services as part of the criminal punishment system.
  • CoreCivic manages more than 65 state and federal correctional and detention facilities with a capacity of more than 90,000 beds in 19 states and the District of Columbia. The company's revenue in 2012 exceeded $1.7 billion. By 2015, its contracts with federal correctional and detention authorities generated up to 51% of its revenues. It operated 22 federal facilities with the capacity for 25,851 prisoners By 2016, Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) along with GEO Group were running "more than 170 prisons and detention centers". CCA's revenues in 2015 were $1.79bn.

« Ton corps, mon choix »

Et « Your bollocks, my foot », c'est understandable ?...

Don't they get it? Trump now has the power to have laws entirely deleted or altered to suit himself and the Republican Party. What is illegal can be made legal. What is legal can be made illegal. Republicans have taken control of every branch of the US government!
# Military officials discussing how to respond to illegal orders under Trump.

Officials at the Pentagon are having informal discussions about what to do if Donald Trump were to give an illegal order, such as deploying the military domestically, CNN reports.
They are also preparing for the possibility that he may change rules to be able to fire scores of career civil servants.
- On the campaign trail, Trump has mulled sending the military after his political enemies, and also to turn back migrants at the southern border. US law generally prohibits active-duty troops from being deployed for law enforcement purposes. There are also fears he could gut the civil service in the Pentagon, and replace fired staff with employees selected for their loyalty to him.
- Trump has suggested he would be open to using active-duty forces for domestic law enforcement and mass deportations and has indicated he wants to stack the federal government with loyalists and “clean out corrupt actors” in the US national security establishment.

Officials are now gaming out various scenarios as they prepare for an overhaul of the Pentagon.
“We are all preparing and planning for the worst-case scenario, but the reality is that we don’t know how this is going to play out yet,” one defense official said.
Trump’s election has also raised questions inside the Pentagon about what would happen if the president issued an unlawful order, particularly if his political appointees inside the department don’t push back.

“Troops are compelled by law to disobey unlawful orders,” said another defense official. “But the question is what happens then – do we see resignations from senior military leaders? Or would they view that as abandoning their people?”

Forget about president election, this is the one that is going to fuck up the US forever

The fascist party now has total control over the western world (you know that Europe is going to go tail between their legs and heads down getting these idiots).

Will this be a lesson that being soft on fascists and supporting genocidal maniac in Israel is bad for your country too?

Democrats chose to lose. Now they start blaming progressives, genocide protesters and Russia for their failure.

PS. Imagine in a country with 350M inhabitants, a convicted criminal get elected by about 70 million votes!

So there is no great problem or difficulty for [the #US administration] to stop what is going on. You don't need Russia, you don't need China you don't need BRICS, you just need the the boss to say to the attack dog "you will not get any more ammunition from us". What is the problem with doing that? And so if they don't do it, which they don't, they send every week more ammunition to the Israelis and indeed more people are #killed, then we know what they want, that's what they want. They are doing what they want.
