Germany’s Federal Environment Agency (UBA) is sounding the alarm after finding high levels in humans of a #banned #plasticiser—a chemical added to a material to make it more flexible and less brittle. The presence of the harmful substance, linked to male #infertility and higher risks of #diabetes and #obesity, was discovered as part of the ongoing 6th German environmental study on health.

UBA toxicologist Marika Kolossa said to Die Welt that the metabolite MnHexP had been found in 28 percent of urine samples so far.

Russia launches 5 attacks with chemical weapons on southeastern front lines in past day

Russian forces launched five attacks with munitions containing #poisonous #chemicals against Ukrainian soldiers on the southeastern front lines in the past day, Oleksandr Shtupun, the spokesman for the Tavria group of forces, said on Jan. 30.

Russia has recently increased its use of chemical weapons in Ukraine, with 81 cases documented only in December, according to the Ukrainian military. The 1925 Geneva Protocol prohibits the use of chemical and biological weapons in war.

The munitions used by Russian troops in southeastern Ukraine on Jan. 29 were likely K-51 grenades with #chloropicrin, according to Shtupun.

An explosion followed by massive fire haa been reported in Tehran.

Unconfirmed report says that it is the plastic/chemical Factor of the Iranian defence forces that was set on fire, place where most of the chemicals used for various Iranian drones are produced.

No reports from the government about the location or what caused the fire yet.

UK fails to ban 36 harmful pesticides outlawed for use in EU

Campaigners say Britain becoming ‘toxic poster child of Europe’ and accuse ministers of breaking Brexit promise on standards

Though ministers promised the UK would not water down EU-derived environmental standards after Brexit, there have been multiple instances of divergence since the country left the bloc.

Now, the country is failing to phase out pesticides that have been found to be harmful to human health and the environment at the same rate as the EU, according to research from Pesticide Action Network (PAN).

Thirteen of the 36 chemicals are considered highly hazardous pesticides under UN definitions used to identify the most harmful substances.

Pretty good article here, especially the last part about thousands of chemicals used in our foods that were "approved" but not by the FDA. And about the FDA's policy of never repeating a review. Many chemicals that were approved by the FDA were approved 50 years ago. Despite new evidence of problems, they won't review anything they've previously reviewed.

American woman who moved to Netherlands was surprised to know bread gets moldy after 3 days!

I don't like the stupid posts by people who move to another country and share about their culture shocks like "tap water is drinkable" or they don't have cloth dryers here.

But some of them are funny and shows how terrible some things are in different countries.

Like this woman who did now know that bread can get moldy if you keep it for roo long. Since most of bread in US is so full of chemicals that they last days if not weeks before going bad, but in most places in Europe, food is fresh and doesn't have much chemicals (at least for now).
