Une équipe de chercheurs de l’Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) est parvenue à mettre au point une batterie rechargeable conçue à partir d’ingrédients et autres substances entièrement comestibles, et même pour la plupart piochés dans notre garde-manger.
Pour ce faire, les scientifiques se sont essentiellement penchés sur l’analyse des propriétés électroniques de certains aliments, l’objectif étant de les combiner à d’autres matériaux comestibles.
Pour l’instant à l’état de prototype, la batterie fonctionne à 0,65 volt, une tension considérée comme assez faible pour ne pas représenter un danger pour le corps, et est capable d’offrir un courant de 48 microampères pendant 12 minutes, ou moins si elle doit être utilisée plus longtemps.
