'This past week both the administration and Congress have made a #railroad #strike #illegal by passing legislation to that effect. Railroad workers in the US have always been a target of government #strike-prevention. The RailwayLaborAct in 1926 set the pattern that was taken up for the rest of the US labor-force with Taft-Hartley in 1947 and all #anti-strike measures that followed.

The current 2022 railroad negotiations and government intervention is but the latest example of joint corporate-government intervention in labor negotiations designed to #prevent-workers-from-striking.' We are in a period when the US ruling elites are willing to attack any challenge to their hegemony and power #domestically, as well as internationally. The government’s recent intervention to #deny #railroad #workers #the-right-to-strike is but the latest and most visible expression of the elites’ #class-war-policy-at-home.'

“It’s all bullshit,” Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont. told Semafor. He was wary of the industry even before the recent collapse of crypto exchange FTX, he said, and recent meetings with advocates have not given him any more confidence in its fundamental value. “I don’t think it passes the smell test. I can’t figure out what supports it.” (FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried is an investor in Semafor.)

“Finally, there are more people blowing the bullshit whistle,” Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass. said in a Wednesday interview. “There’s been a lot of lobbying around Congress and an effort to try to scare off lawmakers. To say ‘Oh, crypto is just so complicated. No one can understand it. Let the crypto world remain unregulated.’ That is precisely the argument that was made in the run-up to the 2008 crash.”

It seems unlikely that the Trump-era Republicans installing the #policy priorities of their preponderantly white and #Christian #coalition across the red states will be satisfied just setting the rules in the places now under their control. #Podhorzer, like #Mason and #Grumbach, believes that the #MAGA movement’s long-term goal is to tilt the electoral rules in enough states to make winning #Congress or the #WhiteHouse almost impossible for Democrats. Then, with support from the GOP-appointed majority on the Supreme Court, Republicans could impose red-state values and programs nationwide, even if most Americans oppose them. The “MAGA movement is not stopping at the borders of the states it already controls,” Podhorzer writes. “It seeks to conquer as much territory as possible by any means possible.”

Synopsis: A prescient and camp film - TV actually - portraying Congressional brains being taken over in insidious ways. In what was a very favorite TV mini-summer series, starring “Monk” (Tony Shalhoub) in a very different role - a #GQP fascist type Congressman who is infected with an alien worm making him that way - and infecting large swaths of Congress. As some horrified, uninfected ("woke") staffers watch.
