I got sick of reading that highly suspicious military death toll of Ukraine they keep on pitching and the term unprovoked so I wrote an email.

I made a mistake and put down 90000 killed but it was 80000 Russians killed or wounded but its more the 9000 ukrainian death toll that gets me.

So if the Russians say 2000 and we say 25000 then that's over 10x so 9000 ukrainian dead at least equals 90000 which is a tragedy.

They actually replied I suspect because I made an error they could beat me with

We are supposed to be the honest truthful democracy that won't exist if our media are liers

Here's the letter

Dear stuff

I understand your need to publish propaganda for the advancement of your ideology or profit but do you ever feel that at some point the reality may diverge so far from the reported news that things start to get unbelievable.

When I was young I used to listen to the soviet union broadcasts for a laugh. Tractor production up 50%, steel production up 100%, glorious happy well feed people so happy they would escape at the slightest opportunity.

Now I read your articles for some humour . Unfortunately this just makes me sad and casts doubt over every thing the media has ever and will ever print.

This article

You claim the 9000 ukrainian soldiers have died and up to 90000 Russian soldiers in this unprovoked war.

Mr Zelensky admitted 100 soldiers were dying a day so for the 6 months that's well over the 9000. I don't know how many Russians have died but if the Russians say 2000 and your side says 90000 then that says something about information and propaganda during a war.

I have seen calculations of up to 190000 dead Ukrainians . That's dead so times that by 4 to get the wounded. I really don't think you are doing any favours for anyone except a small group of war mongers for not questioning these numbers.

Also the repeated claims of an unprovoked attack can at the least be disputed. There was some history before which seems to be left uncovered. Even if you oppose Russia, like any argument, if you are to solve it you need to know both sides. Do you not want to solve this problem?

I don't know the truth either but I look around, do you? It is allegedly your job so I would expect you to at the very least check or question.

Trust can only come from reporting the truth. I would rather you admitted you don't know things then print propaganda as fact.

If you actively lie what else are you going to lie about and then where does that leave us? Listening to Alex Jones or something. I understand you take money from the government so maybe you have no choice but like those unvaccinated people if you really disagree then you are free to walk away from your job.

If you continue to publish these numbers with out question you are as guilty as all those who are profiting from this war.

We can't change nor recreate history but we can learn from it.

What have we learned?

Cheers irreversiblechaos

Here is the reply

Suck dick irreversiblechaos (that's not what they actually said but I know that's what they meant)

This story does not include a 90,000 figure for Russia. It quotes a range of figures, from different sources. I would note that it is a story from the Associated Press, and has been republished with permission. For international stories like the war in Ukraine, we rely on our reputable partners for expert reporting. If you have further concerns about the figures, you should contact AP. If they make a change to their story we will reflect it on Stuff.

Ngā mihi

So they get their propaganda from external sources and check nothing and if you have complaints go fuck off (I think that's how it translated). Also left out any mention of provocation or history even to denounce such thought.

Note to self, must stop getting angry and writing letters.

I don't think taking sides will help but the truth goes a long way to stop these things

In the late 1980s, Lieserl, the daughter of the famous genius, donated 1,400 letters, written by Einstein, to the Hebrew University, with orders not to publish their contents until two decades after his death. This is one of them, for Lieserl Einstein.

“When I proposed the theory of relativity, very few understood me, and what I will reveal now to transmit to mankind will also collide with the misunderstanding and prejudice in the world.

I ask you to guard the letters as long as necessary, years, decades, until society is advanced enough to accept what I will explain below.

There is an extremely powerful force that, so far, science has not found a formal explanation to. It is a force that includes and governs all others, and is even behind any phenomenon operating in the universe and has not yet been identified by us.

This universal force is LOVE.

When scientists looked for a unified theory of the universe they forgot the most powerful unseen force.

Love is Light, that enlightens those who give and receive it. Love is gravity, because it makes some people feel attracted to others.

Love is power, because it multiplies the best we have, and allows humanity not to be extinguished in their blind selfishness. Love unfolds and reveals.

For love we live and die.
Love is God and God is Love.

This force explains everything and gives meaning to life. This is the variable that we have ignored for too long, maybe because we are afraid of love because it is the only energy in the universe that man has not learned to drive at will.

To give visibility to love, I made a simple substitution in my most famous equation.

If instead of E = mc2, we accept that the energy to heal the world can be obtained through love multiplied by the speed of light squared, we arrive at the conclusion that love is the most powerful force there is, because it has no limits.

After the failure of humanity in the use and control of the other forces of the universe that have turned against us, it is urgent that we nourish ourselves with another kind of energy.

If we want our species to survive, if we are to find meaning in life, if we want to save the world and every sentient being that inhabits it, love is the one and only answer.

Perhaps we are not yet ready to make a bomb of love, a device powerful enough to entirely destroy the hate, selfishness and greed that devastate the planet.

However, each individual carries within them a small but powerful generator of love whose energy is waiting to be released.

When we learn to give and receive this universal energy, dear Lieserl, we will have affirmed that love conquers all, is able to transcend everything and anything, because love is the quintessence of life.

I deeply regret not having been able to express what is in my heart, which has quietly beaten for you all my life. Maybe it’s too late to apologize, but as time is relative, I need to tell you that I love you and thanks to you I have reached the ultimate answer!”

Your father Albert Einstein

Please tell NBC to cover Tibet at the Beijing Winter Olympics
#HumanRights #Tibet #ICT #Beijing #WinterOlympics #NBC #JeffShell #Letter

"The Beijing Winter Olympics will be one of the biggest media events of the year. But with just over a week to go before the opening ceremony, we must push broadcasters to include Tibet in their coverage of the Games.

At the International Campaign for Tibet, we have a new petition to NBC, calling on the official US television partner of the Games to shine a light on China’s repression in Tibet. By adding your name, you can tell NBC it must balance the Chinese government’s propaganda at the Olympics with the truth about the Tibetan people’s suffering.

Chinese officials plan to use these Olympics to boost their reputation. By airing the Games, NBC is giving them a platform to do so. Therefore, it’s only right the network give equal time to the victims of China’s oppression.

There’s no shortage of stories to cover. At ICT, we recently published an open letter to NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell, laying out issues his world-class reporters could investigate, including:

🔹 China’s outrageous demolition of a 99-foot-tall Buddha statue and other Buddhist monuments at the Drango monastery in Tibet
🔹 The lack of access to Tibet for foreign journalists, diplomats and ordinary citizens
🔹 The courage of former Tibetan political prisoners like Dhondup Wangchen and Golok Jigme, who endured years of torture and detention for making a documentary about China’s abuses in Tibet leading up to the 2008 Beijing Olympics
🔹 The Chinese government’s efforts to surveil and intimidate Tibetan American communities in the United States

Those are just some of the stories NBC could report on. But in the bigger picture, we’ve seen this story already.

After the last Beijing Olympics in 2008, the international media moved on, but oppression in Tibet only got worse. More than 150 Tibetans have self-immolated since 2009; hundreds more are currently in detention as political prisoners; and more than half a million Tibetans have been forced into a coercive labor program.

With another Olympics about to begin, we cannot let history repeat. You can help shine the light of truth on Tibet: join us and tell Olympic broadcasters like NBC why Tibet matters at this year’s Games."

Help stop oppression by telling NBC to cover Tibet during the Beijing Winter Olympics

Please help save the Tongass National Forest
#Tongass #NationalForest #Forest #Rainforest #Alaska #RoadlessRule #NRDC #RandyMoore #Chief #USForestService #Letter

"Before leaving office, Trump stripped protections from 9 million acres of Alaska's pristine Tongass National Forest in a blatant giveaway to logging companies and other corporate interests.

More than a year later, the Tongass — the heart of the largest intact temperate rainforest in the entire world — is still unprotected.

It's up to the Biden administration now to follow through on its promise to undo Trump's damage and restore protections for these wildlands. As they begin the mandatory rule-making process, administration officials need to hear from as many people like you and me as possible — people who care deeply about the Tongass, all cherished wildlands, and our climate.

The administration is seeking public input on this plan — but only until January 24.

The Trump administration gutted protections for the Tongass by rolling back something called the Roadless Rule, which protected these wildlands from industrial logging by prohibiting companies from harvesting timber and building roads through the forest.

Even as many other public lands have been invaded by industrial development over the years, the Roadless Rule has kept the Tongass virtually pristine.

The benefits are impossible to overstate. The Roadless Rule has:

🔹 Helped preserve the traditional and cultural practices of the region's Indigenous communities who have relied on these lands for millennia
🔹 Protected millions of acres of irreplaceable old growth trees that store more carbon per acre than almost any other forest on the planet, making it an absolutely critical tool as we fight the climate crisis
🔹 Preserved the habitats of wildlife species like the Alexander Archipelago wolf, brown and black bears, salmon, and bald eagles
🔹 Powered the local economy, which relies heavily on fishing and tourism

For these reasons and more, NRDC has been fighting for decades against corporate interests to defend the Tongass. So, when the Trump administration rolled back protections, we joined with Indigenous communities and rushed to court to stop them.

But the fight isn't over. We must ensure that the Biden administration feels the pressure from activists like you and follows through on its promise to save the Tongass by reinstating the Roadless Rule.

Thank you for standing with us again and again and for fighting for the Tongass.

Sincerely,

Garett Rose
Senior Policy Advocate, Nature, NRDC"

You can help by submitting a public comment before the January 24 comment deadline. Help NRDC reach our goal of sending 20,000 letters in defense of the Tongass.

  1. Why didn’t the FDA grant full licensure for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine that is in use and available in the U.S.?
  2. How are the Comirnaty and #Pfizer-BioNTech #COVID-19 vaccines “legally distinct” and what are the “certain differences”?
  3. There is no doubt that the FDA’s action will lead to more vaccine #mandates and increased pressure on those currently choosing not to get vaccinated. Your letter to Pfizer suggests that “there is not sufficient approved vaccine available for distribution.” Is there sufficient supply in the U.S. of the Comirnaty vaccine to ensure that those being #vaccinated under mandates will be receiving the FDA-approved version? Or is it more likely (or certain) that they will be vaccinated using the vaccine administered under the reissued #EUA?

Through many years of activism, we stopped the Keystone XL pipeline. Now, we must pressure the Biden administration to halt other Trump touted pipelines
#Politics #BigOil #FossilFuels #Trump #Biden #KeystoneXL #Line3 #Line5 #DakotaAcessPipeline #NRDC #Letter #Petition

"The Keystone XL tar sands pipeline is dead. TC Energy, the company behind KXL, officially cancelled the project after the Biden administration revoked key permits that were rushed through under former-President Trump.

I'm proud to say that this would not have happened without the vision, tenacity, and unflagging optimism of NRDC supporters like you who fought this hard-won battle with us over the last 12+ years.

This victory is proof that together, we can break the fossil fuel industry's iron grip on our energy supply. But there are a slew of dangerous pipeline projects around the country that still threaten our climate and clean energy progress, including the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL), the Line 3 and Line 5 oil pipelines, and the Pacific Connector and Mountain Valley gas pipelines.

These projects were championed by former-President Trump — and now President Biden must make sure these dangerous pipelines never see the light of day.

NRDC and our members and supporters were part of the movement against Keystone XL from Day One. We stand with the Indigenous and frontline communities who are fighting to protect their lands and waterways from other dirty, dangerous pipelines that violate decades-old land treaties, circumvent bedrock environmental laws, and derail our path towards the 100% clean energy future we need to continue life on Earth.

The Biden administration shut down the Keystone XL pipeline, and they have the power to shut down DAPL, the Line 3 and Line 5 oil pipelines that would pass through large swaths of the Midwest and under the Great Lakes, the Pacific Connector gas pipeline that would cut across nearly 500 waterways in Oregon, the Mountain Valley gas pipeline that would pass from West Virginia to North Carolina, and every other climate-busting fossil fuel pipeline greenlit under the Trump administration. In this moment, our voices must be louder than the fossil fuel industry as it desperately attempts to cling to the status quo.

Thank you for everything you've done to help stop Keystone XL, and for fighting alongside us now to ensure these remaining fossil fuel pipelines meet the same fate.

Sincerely,
Anthony Swift
Canada Project Director, NRDC"

Send an urgent message to President Biden right now: STOP THE TRUMP FOSSIL FUEL PIPELINES. The only way forward is towards a future free from dirty fossil fuels.

Now is the time to hold President Biden's feet to the fire for real action on the climate crisis
#Politics #ClimateCrisis #PresidentBiden #NRDC #FossilFuels #G7 #Letter #Petition

"President Biden is our best chance for meaningful climate action.

He's already taken bold steps to address the climate crisis: Last month, he announced the U.S.'s commitment to cutting greenhouse gas emissions in half by the end of the decade, and he will invest a whopping 40% of climate funding into the communities that have been most impacted by climate change — which is exactly where it should go!

But success is far from guaranteed. With razor-thin pro-environment majorities in both chambers of Congress, and fierce resistance from big polluters, our window of opportunity for tackling the climate crisis is narrow.

The last four years were a nightmare for people and the environment. The Trump administration and its polluter pals did everything in their power to put profits above all else — and the low-income communities and communities of color already disproportionately burdened by the climate crisis and pollution have overwhelmingly paid the price. Enough of that!

We need to make up for lost time — not just undoing Trump's dangerous attacks, but also accelerating toward a new era of bold climate action:

... Cutting greenhouse gas pollution in half by 2030? Yes!
... Creating millions of clean energy jobs and investing in underserved communities? Absolutely!
... Supporting the battle for climate justice in communities of color disproportionately impacted by fossil fuel pollution and climate change? No doubt!
... Going big with investments like expanding electric vehicle charging stations, strengthening the grid, and capping and cleaning up millions of abandoned oil and gas wells? For sure!
... Protecting oceans, forests, wetlands, and other natural resources? You got it!

If we're going to avert a climate catastrophe, we need our elected officials to step up and make climate action a top priority — but we all have to do our part to make them feel the heat.

Sincerely,

Julia Louis-Dreyfus
Trustee, NRDC"

Tell President Biden to follow through on his promise to take bold climate action!

Do you like heavy metal? Probably not in your drinking water. Let's get the lead out!
#Contamination #DrinkingWater #Lead #Biden #Congress #Crisis #Letter #Petition

"Children all over the U.S. are drinking water contaminated with lead.

This water comes through deteriorating lead pipes into the taps in their homes and old drinking fountains in their schools. Lead-contaminated water harms children's brains and nervous systems, causing learning disabilities and impairing their hearing — and has been for decades.

We need action now — and President Biden's American Jobs Plan will help us get there.

Biden's plan will invest more than $100 billion in fixing our water infrastructure, including replacing all lead service lines across the country. He also has called for action on lead in school water. Now we need Congress to save our children from lead poisoning by passing strong legislation to fix our infrastructure, create jobs, and invest in our communities.

Our water infrastructure is failing. There are still 6 to 10 million lead service lines in place across the U.S., some of which are more than 100 years old. As they corrode, they release lead into the water we drink, threatening people's health.

And through decades of neglect and disinvestment, the problem is even more severe in low-income communities and communities of color.

Flint, Michigan made headlines six years ago for its contaminated water after engineers found high levels of lead in the tap water in homes — and doctors found dangerous amounts of lead in children's blood.

But Flint isn't the only city that has suffered from widespread lead problems: Lead service lines are found in all 50 states, from big cities to small towns. Newark, Chicago, Detroit, Milwaukee, Jackson, Atlanta and dozens of other cities have found dangerous levels of lead in many residents' tap water.

The Senate took a step forward last month when senators overwhelmingly passed the Drinking Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Act of 2021, which would authorize modestly increased funding for clean water programs, including replacing some lead service lines — but it's not nearly enough to remove them all.

And the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is considering a new, stronger Lead and Copper Rule, a woefully outdated and inadequate federal protection meant to limit lead in drinking water.

But our work is far from done. We won't stop until all the nation's children are safe from lead poisoning from drinking water.

President Biden's American Jobs Plan will:

  • Remove all lead service lines in every state at no direct cost to homeowners
  • Get people back to work and create new good-paying jobs removing lead service lines
  • Expedite the removal of lead service lines in low-income communities and communities of color suffering disproportionately from the impacts of lead-contaminated water, and begin to tackle the crisis of lead in school drinking water
  • Make drinking water infrastructure across the country stronger and more resilient in the face of climate change-driven extreme weather, like the winter storms in Texas and other states that cut water service for millions

We need Congress to make these goals a reality. But our senators and representatives are unlikely to act without a lot more pressure from millions of people across the country who care deeply about clean water for all.

Thank you for your commitment to creating a healthy, livable future for everyone. I'm truly grateful.

Sincerely,
Erik D. Olson
Senior Advisor, NRDC Action Fund"

Congress can help end the epidemic of lead-contaminated drinking water in the U.S. Please write to your lawmakers right now and tell them: Get the lead out of our country's drinking water!
