Harah the soldier has someone he can call an enemy. Up until now Russia wanted to be a partner if Europe, what use was that to this man. He's a soldier who needs to fight, now he has something to do.
“It must be said that as the chief of the General Staff, I am positive that if I am going to fight someone here on the European battlefield, I know who it is. Currently, most likely, it is the Russian Federation,” Řehka claimed.
He seems so happy all that training and no enemy except in some distant land like Afghanistan but now he has an enemy he can call his own.
“Now, we’re talking about how bad — more or less — the solution will be going forward,” he said.
Let me see, in reality it is as bad as people like this want it to be. A negotiated end letting the people live in peace is not that bad is it? Giving people the choice to vote, that could be a good ending even if their vote was not what one side wanted a peaceful outcome is a good outcome after all.
Now men like this would see this as a bad outcome. How can a hammer like this man accept peace when every nail is to be beaten.
There is a definite lack of thought and intelligence in the west and this man is a prime example.

And thirdly, the bogeyman narrative distracts the public from the most fundamental question: why is every single government in the world so intent on manipulating and deceiving the public with online misinformation campaigns spread via fake social media personas? By their actions, governments and intelligence agencies the world over have revealed that they are truly afraid of the free flow of information online. But why? The underlying truth that is right under our noses is that our perceptions and our actions do matter and do make a difference. This is precisely why governments the world over spend so much time and energy and resources trying to make us believe their propaganda: so that we don't recognize that the true governing power of society is (and always has been) ours to wield.

Wie mijn Twitterprofiel weleens bekeken heeft, zal het zijn opgevallen dat ik regelmatig fel van leer trek tegen Nederlandse media die grote fouten maken in hun berichtgeving over de oorlog tegen Oekraïne. Dat doe ik niet omdat ik daar genoegen in schep, maar omdat de impact van slechte journalistiek zo groot is.
Voorbeelden zijn het overschrijven van een persbericht van de Russische bezetter door een aantal kranten van DPG media, het afdrukken van opzichtige desinformatie in een grote Nederlandse krant, een artikel waarin NRC legitimiteit gaf aan een Russische complottheorie die werd verspreid om een eventueel gebruik van chemische wapens door Rusland alvast te rechtvaardigen en een overgetypt persbericht van het Kremlin bij de NOS. Zomaar een paar illustraties van de barrage aan journalistieke blunders die ik de afgelopen tijd met groeiende wanhoop aan me voorbij heb zien trekken. Het gaat niet alleen om overschrijfjournalistiek en bothsidesisms, maar ook om taalgebruik en perspectief. Ik doe mijn best om hier en daar wat te corrigeren, maar het is dweilen met de kraan open.

Waarom vind ik dit toch zo belangrijk? Het korte antwoord: er wordt al een decennium een informatieoorlog tegen ons gevoerd, maar we verdedigen ons niet. Sterker nog: de aanvaller wordt een handje geholpen door de journalistiek die nog geen idee heeft hoe hiermee om te gaan.
Dit heeft grote gevolgen. Voor de oorlog tegen Oekraïne, omdat Russische desinformatie die doorsijpelt in onze media het animo voor wapenleveranties en sancties onder beleidsmakers en de bevolking verkleint. En voor onszelf, omdat de Russische informatieoorlog erop gericht is verdeeldheid te zaaien en onze samenleving te destabiliseren – en daar bijzonder goed in slaagt.

Want, laat ik het nog maar eens uitleggen (blijkbaar is het nodig): extreemrechts is een marginaal fenomeen in Oekraïne. Natuurlijk lopen er een paar neofascisten rond, maar ze spelen in samenleving noch politiek enige rol van betekenis. Nog nooit is een extreemrechtse partij ook maar in de buurt van de kiesdrempel gekomen, in tegenstelling tot West-Europese landen, waar extreemrechtse partijen al sinds jaar en dag ruim in parlementen vertegenwoordigd zijn. Rusland spuwt al acht jaar lang op al haar kanalen dagelijks artikelen over Oekraïense nazi’s de wereld in, en heeft op die manier nuttige idioten en opiniemakers met een stem in de Westerse media beïnvloed, die het narratief de gevestigde media in hielpen. (...)
Er is ook een andere manier om mensen om de tuin te leiden waar de Russen veel minder moeite voor hoeven te doen: puur inzetten op taal en vertrouwen op de overschrijfjournalistiek van onze media. Dat hebben ze gedaan met de term ‘pro-Russische separatisten.’
Ik werk in een organisatie vol hoogopgeleide mensen die internationaal georiënteerd zijn en goed volgen wat er in de wereld gebeurt. Toch denkt de meerderheid van hen dat er in het oosten van Oekraïne groepen separatisten actief zijn die sinds 2014 proberen om zich af te scheiden van Oekraïne. Die separatisten bestaan niet. Er is in Donetsk en Loehansk nooit in enige serieuze mate sprake geweest van separatistische sentimenten. In 2014 stroomden Russische troepen en agenten deze gebieden binnen om ‘separatistische opstanden’ te organiseren en het te laten lijken alsof Oekraïners in deze gebieden niet bij Oekraïne wilden horen. Allemaal gefingeerd. (...)
Wat gaat hier nou mis? In één begrip is het samen te vatten als journalistieke luiheid. Zelf spreek ik liever van overschrijfjournalistiek. Onze media schrijven niet alleen Russische persberichten en verklaringen van Moskou over, maar ze nemen ook de taal van het Kremlin over. (...)
Nog een voorbeeld: recent kopte de NOS in haar liveblog: “Oekraïense kinderen vast in Russische zomerkampen.” Dat zijn uiteraard geen zomerkampen – zo noemt Rusland ze om de waarheid te verhullen – maar kampen waar ontvoerde kinderen in worden opgesloten. (...)
Vaak krijg ik het verweer dat ik een beetje vertrouwen moet hebben in het interpretatievermogen van mensen. Dat ze wel snappen hoe het echt zit. Het afgelopen decennium, met Trump, Rusland- en covidwappies, heeft echter laten zien hoe onterecht dat vertrouwen is, hoe beïnvloedbaar en digitaal ongeletterd grote groepen mensen zijn. Journalisten overschatten hun publiek schromelijk en onttrekken zich daarom van hun verantwoordelijkheid om correct te formuleren. (...)
Overschrijfjournalistiek zie je ook in koppen. (...)
Je zag het ook toen het Russische leger zich eind maart terugtrok uit het gebied rond Kyiv. “Rusland belooft om de militaire activiteit bij Kyiv drastisch te verminderen,” kopten bijna alle media. Dat was Russische propaganda. De koppen hadden moeten zijn: “Oekraïne wint slag om Kyiv.” Dat was wat er daadwerkelijk gebeurd was, maar journalisten zijn zo gewend om over te schrijven wat Rusland zegt dat het niet eens bij ze opkwam om de situatie objectief te bekijken en te vertellen wat er feitelijk aan de hand was. En uit onderzoek blijkt dat zelfs degenen die de artikelen helemaal lezen tóch beïnvloed worden door misleidende koppen. (...)
Gaan we nu naar de belangrijkste zonde van de overschrijfjournalistiek: het kopiëren van Russische persberichten en verklaringen van het Kremlin. Want dat geintje halen onze media zelfs na acht jaar oorlog nog steeds vrijwel dagelijks uit. Wordt er een krijgsgevangenenkamp met Azovstrijders aangevallen en wijst alles in de richting van Rusland? Gewoon een artikel wijden aan een bewering van het Kremlin dat Oekraïne erachter zit. Zegt Rusland dat de Oekraïense opmars in het zuiden, die duidelijk in volle gang is, gestopt is? Gewoon opschrijven.
Laat ik duidelijk zijn: we hebben hier te maken met een regime dat telkens liegt. Zo ongeveer alles wat het Kremlin de afgelopen jaren heeft beweerd is gelogen gebleken. Wanneer je toch overschrijft wat ze zeggen, ben je dus bezig met het verspreiden van desinformatie. (...)
Het probleem is dat onze media niet bedacht zijn op een regime dat alleen maar liegt. Dat vergt een compleet andere aanpak dan de methode die ze in de studiebanken geleerd hebben.
In de studiebanken hebben journalisten namelijk geleerd dat je altijd allebei de kanten van een verhaal moet laten zien. Dat je als journalist neutraal moet zijn. Nou, dat hebben we geweten. De afgelopen acht maanden heb ik aan de lopende band koppen gezien als “Rusland en Oekraïne beschuldigen elkaar van…” of “Volgens Rusland is dit en dat gebeurd, Oekraïne ontkent.”
Journalisten willen zo graag objectief verslag doen dat ze in een kramp schieten om dwangmatig beide kanten van het verhaal te laten horen, ook als één kant volledig uit leugens bestaat. (...) De essentie van journalistiek is, volgens die beroemde uitspraak: “als iemand zegt dat het regent en een ander zegt dat het droog is, is het niet je taak als journalist om op te schrijven wat ze allebei zeggen. Het is je taak om uit het raam te kijken wie er gelijk heeft.” En precies dat verzaken journalisten in hun berichtgeving over Rusland. (...)
Hoe diep die journalistieke kramp zit, zag ik in een NRC-artikel over bothsidesism en false equivalence waar ik zelf in geïnterviewd werd. Uit de allerlaatste zin blijkt dat de krant werkelijk niets begrepen heeft van het artikel. (...)
Afsluiten met een bothsidesism in een artikel over bothsidesisms vond ik veelzeggend voor het onbegrip van journalisten. Want waar liegt Oekraïne dan over? Ik volg deze oorlog vrij nauwgezet en ik kan eigenlijk weinig bedenken. (...)
Correspondenten zitten vaak in Moskou en journalisten die over de regio berichten hebben zich vrijwel altijd eerst in Rusland verdiept en zijn de andere landen er daarna bij gaan doen. En dat merk je. Vaak wordt er vanuit het Russische perspectief verslag gedaan van gebeurtenissen. (...)

Iedereen kent inmiddels de trollenfabriek in Sint-Petersburg, waar werknemers elke dag grote hoeveelheden nieuwe nepaccounts aanmaken en misleidende berichten verspreiden. Amerikaanse media voeren regelmatig berichten van trollen op in hun verhalen, en de Wall Street Journal onthulde dat Jack Dorsey, oud-CEO van Twitter, tussen eind 2016 en midden 2017 zelf minstens 17 tweets van een Russische trol deelde. In juni dit jaar kwam het Institute for Strategic Dialogue met een rapport over de enorme invloed van Russische desinformatie via sociale media op de wereld, waarin ze ook de rol van die ‘tussenpersonen’ uitlichtten. Ik kan het rapport aanraden, maar voor wie daar geen tijd voor heeft, heb ik het recent samengevat in tien tweets. (...)
Het Russische regime voert een informatieoorlog tegen ons en maakt daarbij gebruik van onze media. Dat vergt een andere manier van journalistiek bedrijven dan Nederlandse media nu gewend zijn. De kern daarvan: geen desinformatie verspreiden. Geen podium geven aan leugens. Our main propaganda network ran another garbage story that had quite threatening undertones so I wrote another letter for what or worth
I feel that our media is actively moving public opinion towards nuclear war and genocide of the Russian people it's past concerning.
I decided to write letters for a weird reason and that is so they know my name and address and when they go full totalitarian they can come for me. I would rather die in their jail then live as a coward and these letters are to stop me denying my thoughts so I can't hide even if I want to.

In this article they make the allegation that Russia sabotaged the nord stream pipeline which Russia built at a cost of $20 billion USD and in which the gas flows from Russia to Germany. On its way it passes through a tap on the Russian end, you know that one.

Why would you run an article that has no evidence to back the accusations? This is just a crazy conspiracy theory.
That you publish this article raises some serious questions about your organisation
What is being discussed in this article is nuclear war. The idea that article 5 which apparently NATO have the privilege to declare is in reality a threat to wage nuclear war. This is the threat that is implied and the comment by Mr Fleming that
there were “no guarantees” the West might see a Russian nuclear attack coming is also true of Russia.
Maybe in your world you do not notice the comment of such luminaries "loonies" as Mr Bolton who seems to believe tactical nuclear weapons can be used.

But this is a serious discussion in the centres of power and who knows but last time Russia was attacked from the west it was during a training exercise which turned into operation barbarosa that cost Russia 10000 men per day lost. They are a bit touchy about threats from the west.

I could never work out is it because you are bought, threatened or willingly participate. Considering we are edging closer to nuclear armageddon which you seem to be actively participating with both silence and active propaganda I can only conclude you are willing actors.
Nuclear war and even the theoretical use of a non escalating tactical nuclear weapon is a crime against humanity and I believe, from the radiation on your breath and the eagerness to take sides, that your organisation is aiding and abetting this crime against humanity.

Mass Media Omertà: Burying Al Jazeera’s ‘The Labour Files’

The damaging revelations about the Labour Party in the recent four-part Al Jazeera series, ‘The Labour Files’, and the almost totalitarian silence in response by British news media, should ram home the illusory nature of ‘democracy’ in the UK.
Based on the largest leak in British political history, Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit has exposed how Labour party officials smeared and intimidated rivals on the left of the party. The leaked data comprises 500 gigabytes of documents, emails, video and audio files from the Labour Party, dating from 1998 to 2021. They reveal:
- The weaponisation of antisemitism by the right-wing of the Labour Party to hinder Jeremy Corbyn’s chances of becoming Prime Minister.
- A ‘hierarchy of racism’ within the Labour Party disciplinary process which prioritises the investigation of alleged antisemitism cases over other forms of racism.
- Shocking examples of Islamophobia and anti-Black racism within Labour.
- The crushing of dissent within Labour under Sir Keir Starmer’s leadership. (...)

The Al Jazeera (AJ) investigation showed that false accusations of abusive behaviour were hurled at Corbyn supporters in order to have them suspended or expelled from the party. At Labour HQ, party officials were tasked with trawling through members’ social media posts to find anything incriminating, particularly any material that could be deemed ‘antisemitic’.
Whistleblower Halima Khan, who worked as a Labour Party investigations officer, told AJ that ‘Palestine’ was one of the search terms used to find incriminating evidence. (...)
Starmer’s support of Israel, and rejection of it being labelled an ‘apartheid state’ by human rights groups including Amnesty, Human Rights Watch and Israel’s own B’Tselem, is well-documented; as is the strength of the Israel lobby within Labour. (...)
Andrew Feinstein, a veteran anti-racist campaigner originally from South Africa who has written and lectured on genocide prevention, is shown in one AJ programme examining Labour’s confidential disciplinary files. Hundreds of party activists had been suspended on the basis of these files. Feinstein pointed to clear examples of real antisemitism. But there were also many examples of cases where ‘there was no antisemitism whatsoever’. These were typically people criticising Israel for its crimes. (...)
After 2018, once Corbyn was in control of the party bureaucracy, the disciplinary process improved dramatically. (...)
Feinstein emphasised that:
‘The key finding, backed up by the evidence, which we can see represented graphically here, is that the key failings of the Labour party on antisemitism took place in the period before April 2018 – before Jeremy Corbyn had control of the party bureaucracy [our emphasis].’
As the AJ narrator noted:
‘Yet Jeremy Corbyn has taken all the blame and his factional opponents within the party none at all.’
This rational honesty was notably lacking when BBC Panorama broadcast a hatchet job in July 2019, pitched as an ‘impartial’ investigation asking the loaded question, ‘Is Labour Anti-Semitic?’ The programme was presented by BBC journalist John Ware who had previously made clear his antagonism towards Corbyn’s politics, not least in an earlier edition of Panorama. As we noted in a media alert shortly afterwards, Panorama was immediately followed by the flagship BBC News at Ten programme which gave it extensive coverage, pumping up the propaganda value of the fake ‘investigation’. (...)
By contrast, Peter Oborne told AJ in ‘The Labour Files’:
‘The BBC produced a documentary bearing directly on the character and fitness for office of the leader of the Labour Party, the leader of Her Majesty’s Opposition, in a moment of intense constitutional crisis [over Brexit]. Now, that’s a momentous intervention in British politics. So, I do think the BBC have to look really carefully at their record here.’ (...)
One of the most disturbing aspects of the AJ investigation into the Labour Party is further evidence supporting one of the conclusions of the Forde report that:
‘The Labour Party is not a welcoming place for people of colour’.
This was an understatement, as we will see. (...)
In our media alert at the time, we noted that the leaked internal report revealed that senior Labour figures on the right of the party had actively tried to stop Labour winning the general election in order to oust Corbyn as party leader. (...)
Starmer essentially suppressed Labour discussion of the damning leaked document, attempting to defuse the situation by commissioning an independent inquiry. However, the Forde report would have made uncomfortable reading for Starmer and the current Labour management.
As Jonathan Cook summarised:
‘Despite its careful wording and bogus even-handedness, the Forde Inquiry conceded that the Labour right had indeed waged a dirty factional war against Corbyn and the left of the party, weaponizing antisemitism to tar them.’
Moreover, as the Forde report concluded, the leaked WhatsApp messages revealed:
‘overt and underlying racism and sexism’. (...)
The Forde Report even identified a ‘hierarchy of racism’ in which investigations of alleged antisemitism in the Labour Party took precedence over Islamophobia and anti-Black racism. (...)
‘The Labour Files’ revealed the particularly egregious case of Labour HQ targeting Muslim Labour activists in Newham in east London. A dossier on Labour Party Muslim members and their families in Newham, containing private information about their lives and activities, was sent to Labour Party HQ in London. (...)
Oborne, who has recently published a new book, ‘The Fate of Abraham: Why the West is Wrong About Islam’, told AJ:

In an article titled, ‘Al Jazeera’s Labour Files has blown a hole in the British media’s Corbyn narrative’, for the Middle East Eye website, Oborne observed:
‘The papers that banged on day after day, and month after month, on allegations that Corbyn was a racist have all but ignored the Al Jazeera reports. The same applies to the BBC, which played a major role in framing the understanding of Corbyn and antisemitism in the run-up to the 2019 election.’
He added:
‘it is impossible to justify the media omerta around the Al Jazeera films. It reminds me of the long refusal of the mainstream British media to engage with the phone hacking scandal involving criminality across large sections of the British media more than a decade ago.’ (...)
In our 2018 book, ‘Propaganda Blitz’, we detailed at length the cynical demolition of the prospects for socialism under a Corbyn-led government. There were the usual suspects at the far-right of the media ‘spectrum’ – the Sun, Daily Mail, The Times and Telegraph among them. But, perhaps more insidious – because of their supposed reputation for reliable, even challenging, reporting – BBC News and, especially, the Guardian, were in the vanguard of the attack. It is obvious that they would be reluctant in the extreme to revisit the scene of their crimes – which are ongoing. (...)
Cook summed up the media’s callous behaviour and suppression of any reporting or discussion of the Al Jazeera series:
‘Which BBC program will acknowledge Al Jazeera’s revelations, let alone pursue them further, when the BBC’s flagship news investigation program, Panorama, is deeply implicated in the very smears Al Jazeera exposed. The BBC would in effect be investigating its own malpractice.’
He added:
‘And similarly for the Guardian. To investigate the leaked documents would convict the paper – traditionally seen by many Labour voters as their house journal – of colluding in a bogus antisemitism narrative against the Labour left that it played a central role in building. The Guardian would expose itself not as it wishes to be seen – as a fearless, independent newspaper confronting the British establishment with uncomfortable truths – but as a key pillar of that very establishment.’ (...)

Dem Dokument zufolge ist das BMVD innerhalb der Bundesregierung auch für die „Durchsetzung des Verbreitungsverbotes von RT und Sputnik“ zuständig und erhält dabei Unterstützung von der Bundesnetzagentur, welche zum Beispiel die Listen „der zu sperrenden Webseiten“ regelmäßig aktualisiert und an die „von der Sanktionsverordnung adressierten Internetzugangsanbieter aus dem Telekommunikationsbereich“ übermittelt.Man muss sich dies nochmal bewusst vor Augen führen: Die Bundesregierung in Form des BMVD ordnet folglich höchstpersönlich an, welche nicht genehmen Nachrichten-Plattformen in Deutschland zu sperren sind.
Diese Darstellung des Ministeriums (angebliches Verbreitungsverbot und Verweis auf „zu sperrende Webseiten“) lässt aber noch aus einem anderen Grund aufhorchen. Denn tatsächlich gibt es kein allgemeines „Verbreitungsverbot von RT und Sputnik“. In der am 1. Mai 2022 verabschiedeten EU-Verordnung ist explizit und ausschließlich von „Einstellung der Sendetätigkeiten“ die Rede. Dies ergibt sich auch aus der im EU-Amtsblatt veröffentlichten Änderung der entsprechenden Verordnung (EU) Nr. 833 von 2014. Dort ist ‚lediglich‘ davon die Rede, dass es den (nicht näher definierten) Betreibern verboten ist, „Sendungen zu ermöglichen, zu erleichtern oder auf andere Weise dazu beizutragen, auch durch die Übertragung oder Verbreitung über Kabel, Satellit, IP-TV …“.
