The algorithm was able to track how much Amazon’s power in the e-commerce field would get competitors to move their prices, and in instances in which competitors didn’t move their prices, the algorithm would return Amazon’s prices back down, according to the Journal.

Amazon is #neoliberalism in its final stage. It is no longer about manufacturing #costs and fair prices, but only about how to eliminate the #competition with low prices or how high you can rip off your own customers.

The new sets of rules come after Amazon removed suspected AI-generated books that were falsely listed as being written by the #author #JaneFriedman. Earlier this month, books about #mushroom foraging listed on Amazon were reported as likely to have been AI-generated and therefore containing potentially dangerous advice. AI-generated travel books have also flooded the site.

The AI #attack on #humanity has begun. Reviews as well as books are coming under the #control of AI. Soon it will no longer be possible to buy books from humans, because they can no longer be found in the confusion.

A newly implemented e-commerce rating system in the city-state of Singapore has rated Facebook’s Marketplace as the least trustworthy e-commerce platform, behind Amazon and its Alibaba-owned Asian analogue Lazada. The ratings system, known as the E-commerce Marketplace Transaction Safety Ratings (TSR) [PDF], was launched on May 14th by the Inter-Ministry Committee on Scams (IMCS).

From personal experience, my own daughter has been defrauded twice via Facebook Marketplace. My own dealings with Amazon have not been bad, as they at least have a call centre which sorts things out for you. On Facebook’s side, they have zero interest in sorting anything out, as it is mostly user to user sales. Locally we also have a marketplace called Bid or Buy, and they can act as the middle-person by accepting the client payment, you dispatch the goods, and then withdraw the funds from them if the buyer has received them in order. This has worked very well for me, as it also assures me that an actual payment has been made. I’d happily part with a small percentage for this service, as it gives the buyer some peace of mind too.

We have the biggest list of #books, we have access to the most data, so we could have a very accurate view on a daily basis of how #consumer demand was shifting. We could see right away when #people were grabbing the sourdough bread book, or the birding book, or the inspirational #book, or the book that put this moment in the context of #history.

algorithmic #marketplace that serves up mostly the hits, driving a #cycle so self-fulfilling it’s nearly tautological: Best sellers sell the best because they are best sellers.

Unfortunately, marketing in its profit mania is mentally unable to recognize that in this case only books are written for the #algorithm. Similar to YouTube, where the big ones only produce videos on topics that are currently trending. This leads to a one-size-fits-all approach that kills any creativity and prevents new upcoming creative thinkers from evolving at all. These new thinkers could improve the world, but they have too few followers to be detected by the algorithm.
