Keeping pace with YouTube will likely become even more challenging next year, when Google’s #Chrome browser adopts the Manifest V3 standard, which significantly limits what #extensions are allowed to do. #Modras said that under Manifest V3, whenever an ad blocker wants to update its blocklist — again, something they may need to do multiple times a day — it will have to release a full #update and undergo a review “which can take anywhere between [a] few hours to even a few weeks.”

“Through #Manifest #V3, #Google will close the door for innovation in the ad #blocking landscape and introduce another layer of #gatekeeping that will slow down how #ad #blockers can react to new #ads and #online #tracking methods,” he said.

Anyone who knows #Firefox and still uses Chrome out of conviction is beyond help.

This is what we see here in this #attack — malicious code is hosted and served in a manner that can’t be blocked. Unlike hosting it on a #Cloudflare Worker service as was mitigated on the earlier variant. Truly, it is a double-edged sword in decentralized tech.

I found out what's wrong with Apple: They rejected #DuckDuckGo as a #search engine because of #privacy concerns and therefore preferred to stay with #Google.

#Giannandrea had a different take, though. He was heavily involved in Apple's discussions about its future with search, and he dismissed a switch to DuckDuckGo, partly because he felt that DuckDuckGo's "marketing about privacy is somewhat incongruent with the details" because DuckDuckGo relies on #Bing in some areas. He said he would have wanted to do "a lot more due diligence with DuckDuckGo" should the switch have happened. He previously argued against switching to DuckDuckGo in an internal company email.

So an ex-Google employee talks about privacy issues and that's why you should stay with Google. If Apple is so stupid and falls for it, I wonder what they do for a living.

“Microsoft Edge now has a creator follow feature that is enabled by default,” says Rivera in a conversation with The Verge. “It appears the intent was to notify Bing when you’re on certain pages, such as YouTube, The Verge, and Reddit. But it doesn’t appear to be working correctly, instead sending nearly every domain you visit to Bing.”

Microsoft first started testing this new creator follow feature in Edge last year before rolling it out more broadly in recent months.
