The Ukrainian parliament has been studying a bill since last week that threatens to shut Telegram down.
The measure, which has proven very unpopular but has garnered the support of deputies from four political groups in the Rada – 72% of Ukrainians use Telegram as their main source of information, a study found last year.
Ukrainian citizens can currently consult Telegram without limits, as opposed to surfing the internet or following news outlets regulated by Kiev’s media law.
PS. #France has quietly pushed blocking of telegram channels, the same in #Sweden and #Germany. But the app itself is still not banned here.

Congratulations to all in the cities and country which has been taken back decades in terms of rights and freedoms under Erdogan.
I spent some time in Istanbul especially, back when women were celebrating newfound freedoms and all enjoyed freedoms of speech and blossoming "new" music and arts.
Turkey’s main opposition party retained its control over key cities and made huge gains elsewhere in Sunday’s local elections, in a major upset to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who had set his sights on retaking control of those urban areas.
These leaked emails are just two of thousands exchanged between Agenda Europe members that have been seen by openDemocracy and a small group of European journalists.
They reveal for the first time how US, Russian and European anti-abortion, anti-LGBTQ+ activists and politicians were in constant contact, offering support on local and national campaigns. The group’s actions include campaigning on referendums that successfully prevented equal marriage rights, challenging calls to end gender-based violence, and influencing the rise of anti-abortion, anti-LGBTQ+ feelings and policy-making in multiple European countries.
As the following shows, these emails illustrate the emergence of a coherent and organised counter-narrative to the liberal world-view that was, until recently, generally espoused by an increasing number of democracies around the world. Agenda Europe, and its successor, Vision Network, served as a gathering place where conservative thought in its many disparate strands came together into a coherent worldview.
This is often underestimated. These anti-democracy initiatives have a massive network. You see that also in the local far right here that have contacts to other countries etc

The only reason I had to hear those things was a cruel and uninformed attempt by outside forces to shame and coerce and frighten me into making a different decision other than the one I knew was right for me. Strongman rule is a fantasy. Essential to it is the idea that a strongman will be your strongman. He won't. In a democracy, elected representatives listen to constituents. We take this for granted, and imagine that a dictator would owe us something. But the vote you cast for him affirms your irrelevance. The whole point is that the strongman owes us nothing. We get abused and we get used to it.
