Blocking roads isn’t crazy – It’s our last hope that sanity will prevail

A lack of public concern in the West at dealing with the impending climate catastrophe isn’t accidental. It’s been engineered.

COP27, the United Nations’ annual climate conference attended by world leaders, kicked off in Egypt at the weekend in the midst of a wave of civil disobedience actions in the UK.

The protests have been led by environmental groups such as Just Stop Oil and Extinction Rebellion, and come as oil giants have announced massive profits from surging energy prices caused by the Ukraine war, and new reports show catastrophic climate change is soon to reach a tipping point, becoming irreversible. Most of these actions have been ignored by the media or dismissed as the antisocial posturings of individuals divorced from the concerns of ordinary people. (...)

But the criticism most widely hurled at these various forms of direct action is that they are counterproductive, that they antagonise ordinary people and make them stop listening.

There is an obvious rejoinder. No one appeared to be listening before the activists took to the streets. Endless scientific warnings have made little impact on public discourse. The establishment media have paid only lip service to the dangers, even as the effects on the climate have become harder to overlook. And governments have made placatory noises while doing nothing meaningful to reverse the collision course humanity is on with the planet. (...)

The World Meteorological Organization, meanwhile, noted that the three greenhouse gases have reached record highs, with methane – the biggest offender – showing the largest year-on-year jump.

Civil disobedience is a symptom not of the climate crisis – nature won’t listen to the protesters – but of the inaction that continues to be the default position of governing political elites, as well as the billionaire-owned media that is supposed to serve as a watchdog on their power. (...)

The establishment media is playing a crucial part in twisting social and political priorities. Every time it focuses on the inconvenience caused by the climate protests – or the potential risk of someone dying in an ambulance caught in a hold-up – it is downplaying what are already the tangible, lethal consequences of the climate emergency. (...)

Nonetheless, the claim that there is widespread antipathy in Britain towards acts of civil disobedience on the climate is greatly overstated – and by the very same media outlets determined to play down the climate crisis. (...)

Despite this, the rightwing Conservative government in London has been progressively eradicating the right of protest – precisely to prevent actions to highlight its continuing crimes against the planet.

A spate of recent legislation has been designed to criminalise any expression of dissent. (...)

Actions like glueing oneself to railings, sitting in a road, obstructing fracking machinery or tunnelling can result in up to three years’ imprisonment. “Disruption prevent orders” can be issued to anyone who has attended a protest in the last five years, banning them from taking part in future demonstrations for two years. Activists’ freedom of movement can be limited by orders requiring them to wear an electronic tag or denying them entry to specified areas. (...)

One might have hoped that at least Britain’s opposition party would be vowing to reverse such draconian measures once in office. But Labour leader Keir Starmer has suggested he would legislate even stiffer penalties for those taking direct action on the climate. (...)

What all this represents is a shift over the past decade from one kind of political insanity – a denial, either implicitly or explicitly, of a climate crisis – to a different kind of insanity: official acknowledgment of a looming climate catastrophe but a refusal to do something meaningful to avert it. (...)

But even more troubling, wars seem to be increasingly useful as a distraction. (...)

In this way, wars helpfully deflect attention from the far bigger global crisis of the environment, one in which Western leaders cannot present themselves as the Good Guys – because they are, in fact, the worst, the greediest and the most destructive of the Bad Guys.

The endless War on Terror has served this purpose all too well over the past two decades, when the climate crisis should have been the world’s top priority. (...)

Instead the constant chatter in western capitals, on TV and in the press, is about how to find new ways to generate gas and oil for public consumption to overcome the energy crisis, not how to wean ourselves off these climate-destroying fuels. (...)

But in a world of self-inflicted collapse, Putin is no more insane than his western counterparts. In truth, the only sane people are those trying to wake up everyone else, whether by glueing their hands to the road, climbing bridges or hurling soup at paintings.

Thus, our #critique of liberal #feminism refers to its advocacy of individual liberation only, without reflection on class. In this way, it reproduces capitalist logic when it thinks of women’s emancipation only as recognition and social mobility, for example, within a #society that remains unequal. In this conception, women would have the right to be in the same jobs as men, but when they are there, the logic of #inequality continues to reproduce itself. This liberal feminism has appropriated concepts and guidelines that are historically from the popular and women’s struggle. It appropriates, in a distorted way, many concepts to conform to liberal and neoliberal precepts. This appropriation serves #capitalism in many ways. One example is the use of the very idea of equality by the market, with its mass #propaganda, which contributes to the naturalization of a supposed “equality” that already exists, naturalizing the logics of capitalism and the #state, which remain intact. In this way, the market feeds the false illusion of #equality, preaching as “empowerment” that women can “succeed in big companies”, in State positions, etc., reaching high positions or leadership, in a meritocratic logic. However, when they are in these positions, they continue to #work for and within the system, without questioning why other women have not “succeeded”, without attributing this inequality to the capitalist system.
This process of distortion also occurred with the concept of “Empowerment”, whose contours were shaped by the work of Freirean critical #pedagogy. It is important to remember that this concept was born rooted in popular movements and was appropriated in a distorted way by liberal feminism. Therefore, when we speak of #empowerment, we must take it up from its collective root. Only collective empowerment will make a difference in the struggle of #women.

Pakistan is in a political and economic death spiral that could push it over the same cliff as #SriLanka, as internal conflict, regional instability, and global uncertainty all threaten the survival of the #state.
#Pakistan has struggled to recover from the #pandemic and is now grappling with another spike in #COVID-19 cases. But the country faces life-threatening challenges similar to what Sri Lanka faced before the island government collapsed amid 50 percent #inflation; food, fuel, and medicine shortages; power cuts; and, in May, its first failure to make an interest payment on a foreign loan. For Pakistan, life support is a drip feed of loans from foreign friends and emergency injections from multilateral lenders.
Some of Pakistan’s economic woes are internal and even self-inflicted, with subsidies thrown around like confetti, for instance, as successive governments have failed to boost exports that would benefit the working class to balance high-end imports for the #military and political elite.

‘Soon it will be unrecognisable’: total climate meltdown cannot be stopped, says expert

Blistering heatwaves are just the start. We must accept how bad things are before we can head off global catastrophe, according to a leading UK scientist.

The publication of Bill McGuire’s latest book, Hothouse Earth, could not be more timely. (...)

As he makes clear in his uncompromising depiction of the coming climatic catastrophe, we have – for far too long – ignored explicit warnings that rising carbon emissions are dangerously heating the Earth. Now we are going to pay the price for our complacency in the form of storms, floods, droughts and heatwaves that will easily surpass current extremes.

The crucial point, he argues, is that there is now no chance of us avoiding a perilous, all-pervasive climate breakdown. (...) “A child born in 2020 will face a far more hostile world that its grandparents did,” McGuire insists.

In this respect, the volcanologist, who was also a member of the UK government’s Natural Hazard Working Group, takes an extreme position. Most other climate experts still maintain we have time left. (...)

Such claims are dismissed by McGuire. “I know a lot of people working in climate science who say one thing in public but a very different thing in private. In confidence, they are all much more scared about the future we face, but they won’t admit that in public. I call this climate appeasement and I believe it only makes things worse. The world needs to know how bad things are going to get before we can hope to start to tackle the crisis.” (...)

[I]t is already a different world out there,” he adds. “Soon it will be unrecognisable to every one of us.” (...)

“It turns out the climate is changing for the worse far quicker than predicted by early climate models. That’s something that was never expected.” (...)

At the Cop26 climate meeting in Glasgow last year, it was agreed that every effort should be made to try to limit that rise to 1.5C, although to achieve such a goal, it was calculated that global carbon emissions will have to be reduced by 45% by 2030.

“In the real world, that is not going to happen,” says McGuire. “Instead, we are on course for close to a 14% rise in emissions by that date – which will almost certainly see us shatter the 1.5C guardrail in less than a decade.”

And we should be in no doubt about the consequences. Anything above 1.5C will see a world plagued by intense summer heat, extreme drought, devastating floods, reduced crop yields, rapidly melting ice sheets and surging sea levels. (...)

From this perspective it is clear we can do little to avoid the coming climate breakdown. Instead we need to adapt to the hothouse world that lies ahead and to start taking action to try to stop a bleak situation deteriorating even further, McGuire says. (...)

As to the reason for the world’s tragically tardy response, McGuire blames a “conspiracy of ignorance, inertia, poor governance, and obfuscation and lies by climate change deniers that has ensured that we have sleepwalked to within less than half a degree of the dangerous 1.5C climate change guardrail. Soon, barring some sort of miracle, we will crash through it.” (...)

McGuire stresses that if carbon emissions can be cut substantially in the near future, and if we start to adapt to a much hotter world today, a truly calamitous and unsustainable future can be avoided. . (...)

Dangerous heat will become the norm, even in the UK. Systems need to urgently change – and the silence needs to be broken.

Can we talk about it now? I mean the subject most of the media and most of the political class has been avoiding for so long. You know, the only subject that ultimately counts – the survival of life on Earth. Everyone knows, however carefully they avoid the topic, that, beside it, all the topics filling the front pages and obsessing the pundits are dust. (...)

This is not a passive silence. It is an active silence, a fierce commitment to distraction and irrelevance in the face of an existential crisis. (...) But while the people who dominate the means of communication frantically avoid the subject, the planet speaks, in a roar becoming impossible to ignore. (...)

We have seen nothing yet. (...)

We do not deserve this. The billionaire press and the politicians it promotes may deserve each other, but none of us deserves either group. They are constructing a world between them in which we have not elected to live, in which we may not be able to live. (...)

They do so on behalf of the fossil fuel industry, animal farming, finance, construction firms, car manufacturers and airline companies, but also on behalf of something bigger than any of those interests: the power of incumbency. (...)

Over the past few years, I’ve begun to see that mainstream environmental movements have made a terrible mistake. (...) It goes something like this. There is too little time and the ask is too big to try to change the system. People aren’t ready for it. We don’t want to scare away our members or provoke a fight with the government. So the only realistic approach is incrementalism. (...)

But while they have been playing patience, power has been playing poker. The radical right insurgency has swept all before it, crushing the administrative state, destroying public protections, capturing the courts, the electoral system and the infrastructure of government, shutting down the right to protest and the right to live. While we persuaded ourselves that there is no time for system change, they proved us wrong by changing everything. (...)

Only a demand for system change, directly confronting the power driving us to planetary destruction, has the potential to match the scale of the problem and to inspire and mobilise the millions of people required to generate effective action. (...)

There was never time for incrementalism. Far from being a shortcut to the change we want to see, it is a morass in which ambition sinks. (...)

Some of us know what we want: private sufficiency, public luxury, doughnut economics, participatory democracy and an ecological civilisation. (...)

So let’s break our own silence. Let’s stop lying to ourselves and others by pretending that small measures deliver major change. (...)

But a major question remains. Given that we have left it so late, can we reach the social tipping point before we hit the environmental tipping point?

Israel runs the Saharonim detention camp in the Negev Desert, one of the largest detention centers in the world, where African immigrants can be held for up to three years without trial.

Им всё это «дико, например» (с): пенсионные накопления; ипотека и тянущая жилы работа на одном месте; мифическая необходимость «верхнего образования».

... а еще – дети, рожденные в возрасте до 35 лет; географическая привязка по принципу «где родился, там и сгодился»; троглодитская политика каких-то олдовых полковников, мешающая их сетевой жизни; семейные «ценности» – дача, гараж, инвестиционная квартира, мебель из массива дерева на века, сотни бумажных книг чисто для интерьера и хрусталь на полках…

Впервые в человеческой истории и истории России на сцену во весь рост вышел постматериализм – совершенно новая модель экономического и социального поведения, носителями которой в основном являются молодые люди, родившиеся в конце 90-х и после 2000 года. Они не хотят потреблять товары и услуги так, как это принято у нормальных людей. И «нормальных» людей они боятся и не понимают их устаревших устремлений, пристойных скорее для хомяков, чем для представителей новой цифровой цивилизации.

По данным Росстата, в России насчитывается примерно 25 миллионов человек в возрасте от 15 до 29 лет. Как бы ни старались их не замечать «менеджеры страны», эти молодые люди – огромная сила. И в ближайшие годы она будет способствовать слому традиционной экономики, в том числе – агонии пенсионной системы.

Мем: я в три часа ночи и видосы про воров и то как жить на зоне

Ученые из Московского гуманитарного университета и Российского государственного социального университета в своем исследовании новых поведенческих моделей молодежи в экономике сообщают: происходит цивилизационный сдвиг, очередная волна развития постиндустриального общества, которая характеризуется сменой ценностей.

Им вторят сотрудники Российского государственного педагогического университета им. Герцена: новому условному «поколению Z» присуще мировоззрение, которое принято обозначать как «постматериализм».

Мем: в следующей жизни хочу быть безработным москвичом

Термин был предложен еще в 1977 году американским социологом Роландом Инглхартом. В то время Инглхарт, изучая результаты соцопросов, заметил, что обеспеченную молодежь западных демократических стран все меньше интересуют сугубо материальные проблемы, и все больше – вопросы гражданских свобод и экологии.

К концу 2010-х годов из-за фантастического цифрового рывка, бурного развития интернета и связанного с ним особого сектора экономики постматериализм превратился из не очень внятного социологического концепта в реально существующее явление.

Российские ученые-педагоги отмечают: «поколение Z» выросло среди цифровой глобализации – буквально в интернете, в котором всё связано со всем. Цифровые технологии для молодежи – обыденность, а не мечта, как это было, например, у их родителей.

Видя весь мир на экранах удобных гаджетов, молодые сформировали собственные ценности. Они ориентированы на стремительный социальный «взлет», на частую смену жизненной обстановки, на быстрые результаты от приложенных к чему-либо усилий. Они выстраивают свою жизнь вокруг разнонаправленных интересов, а о далеком будущем заботиться не хотят.

Для молодых являются нонсенсом такие явления, как, например, традиция присваивать звание «ветеран труда». Они вполне адекватно удивляются тому, что кто-то в здравом уме готов вкалывать в одной и той же отрасли 25-40 лет и добиваться ведомственных или государственных наград ради каких-то эфемерных льгот в старости.

Им странно само это словосочетание – «ветеран труда». Почему, собственно, «ветеран»? Труд – это что, война? Почему везде должно быть место подвигу?

Мем про родину

Они боятся жить и уходят в цифровые фантазии? Или это реально новые ценности?

Исключительно важным молодые люди полагают иметь право на самостоятельность, независимость, неприкосновенность частной жизни и свободу слова. Также они выстраивают собственную, необычную и довольно активную философию потребления. Канадский ученый Дон Тэпскот назвал это поколение «сетевым». В своей работе «Выросшие цифровыми: как сетевое поколение меняет мир» (2008 г.) он среди прочего утверждал, что новая потребительская философия молодежи – это всего лишь попытка спрятаться от реальных жизненных проблем и страхов, которые с ними связаны.

В чем-то с Тэпскотом можно согласиться, потому что одной из характерных черт «поколения Z» является избегание ответственности – в профессиональной сфере, в сфере владения материальными активами, в сфере отношений и деторождения. Хотя речь скорее идет об избегании обстоятельств, которые приводят к несению ответственности. Однако не может ли оказаться так, что молодые люди на самом деле проявляют некий новый здравый смысл? И избегают слишком прочных материальных и человеческих уз неспроста?

Ведь одной из главных ценностей «зэтов» является собственная самореализация – профессиональная, творческая, личная.

Мем про лимоны и лимонад

Исследования российских ученых показывают, что ценности отечественных представителей сетевого поколения имеют отчетливо нематериальный характер. Они потребляют ради удовольствия, у них нет мотивации к длительному накоплению материальных ресурсов. Также у них снижена склонность к предпринимательскому риску. Зато они ценят умение работать в команде (хотя работа может вестись удаленно, а общение команды быть сугубо виртуальным).

Авторы исследования «Трансформация экономической и трудовой модели поведения современной молодежи в условиях становления цифрового общества», на которое мы уже ссылались выше, выделили 8 новых поведенческих тенденций условных «зэтов»:

1) Они быстро переключаются при потреблении информации. Плохо концентрируются на ней и неглубоко прорабатывают вопросы, которые их интересуют. Хорошо воспринимают наглядную информацию. Делают это маленькими порциями. Не любят вникать в текст, лучше понимают иконки, смайлики, видео и картинки. Сосредоточение на одной задаче и выполнение её до конца требует от «зэтов» значительных усилий.

1) Для этого поколения долгосрочные тренды отсутствуют. Горизонт планирования у молодых минимальный. Они как бы всё время в «потоке», который формируется социальными сетями и меняется ежесекундно.

1) Мотивация к деятельности слабая. От постепенного движения к успеху «зэты» отказываются. Интерес к реальной физической жизни, к миру снижен. Само понятие «ценности» размыто и теряет материальную форму. Ценности становятся абстрактными и представлены они в виртуальной среде.

1) Установка на гедонизм распространяется на всю деятельность, в том числе на трудовую. Успехом считается личное счастье. Измеряется оно разнообразием образа жизни и удовольствием от существования, а не богатством и социальным статусом. Работа, конечно, должна приносить доход, но при этом давать радость и не отнимать много времени. «Вкалывать» никто не готов. Говоря о счастье, молодые практически не употребляют слов «карьера» и «престижная работа». Главное, чего они ждут от будущего – это комфорт и спокойствие.

1) У «зэтов» отмечена привычка отделять себя от государства и от семьи. Они индивидуалисты. Поиск своего личного пути – основная установка. Ценность того, чтобы вести совместную деятельность с другими, быть полезным обществу в целом, для молодых сомнительна. 57 % представителей поколения заявляют, что у них нет кумиров, 16 % затрудняются с ответом. Подражать предпочитают родственникам и историческим персонажам.

1) Норма жизни вместе с другими людьми на одной территории отмирает, потому что само понятие «территории» не имеет смысла в виртуальной среде. Это приводит к трудностям в формировании понятия о правилах «общежития» в конкретном месте. Молодым непросто договариваться о несении ответственности за территорию и соблюдении норм совместного существования. Это порождает трудности адаптации в коллективе при работе «в реале».

1) «Зэты» боятся обыденности, в которой нет места спонтанности, интенсивным переживаниям и ярким впечатлениям.

1) К собственному здоровью молодежь относится пассивно, ведет малоподвижный образ жизни. Их устраивает долгое сидение с гаджетами, имеющими выход в интернет.

Смешные твиты про школу

Названные тенденции на первый взгляд выглядят несколько негативно. Однако если вдуматься – почему плохо то, что молодые хотят получать впечатления от путешествий и сиюминутных развлечений? То, что они не желают быть обременены недвижимостью и другими экономическими активами? То, что имеют пониженную склонность к бизнес-риску, что нацелены на реализацию коротких проектов с минимальными вложениями денег и усилий?

Да ничего в этом нет плохого. Просто это становится угрозой для сложившейся традиционной экономики – вот в чем проблема. Ценности молодых подвергают испытанию ее устойчивость.

Они не хотят создавать собственное материальное «наследство»

Новое поколение слишком «текуче» для того, чтобы обеспечивать бизнесу постоянно доступный трудовой ресурс. Молодые не желают засиживаться на одном месте и делать скучную работу, не видя быстрых результатов своего труда.

Из-за слишком близкого горизонта планирования молодежь не хочет накапливать личные материальные ресурсы и сберегать их. Этим людям трудно продавать то, что их не интересует здесь и сейчас. В чём и кроется корень «зла» для традиционной экономики.

Поколение Z не вникает в долгосрочные экономические тренды. Поэтому с ним не получается говорить о них ни лично, ни в форме общественной дискуссии. Меж тем всё «остальное» общество традиционно мечтает о постоянном и сбалансированном экономическом росте.

Лауреат нобелевской премии по экономике Эдмунд Фелпс в свое время вывел некое «золотое правило» такого роста. Если говорить упрощенно, не вникая в формулы, он считал, что сбалансированный рост экономики возможен при условии, когда каждое поколение сберегает для будущего такую же (или чуть большую) часть национального дохода, какую оставило ему предыдущее поколение. При этом Фелпс настаивал, что потребление должно быть максимизировано, но так, чтобы накапливаемый капитал «не проседал». Если же капитал слишком вырастает, то обществу следует начинать больше тратить.

Так вот, поколение Z вообще не желает заботиться о капитале. В том числе – о собственном пенсионном, что создает большие риски для и так безнадежно больной пенсионной системы России.

Кроме того, нежелание накапливать и сберегать у миллионов молодых уменьшает возможность для бизнеса занимать «длинные деньги» у банков и опосредованно у государства (которые в теории помогают обществу копить ресурсы).

Мало того, мы уже согласились с тем, что склонность к деловому риску у «зэтов» низка. Большинство из них не будет создавать никакого бизнеса. Но что же они собираются делать в жизни?

Мем про кредиты

Исследования показывают, что молодые ценят творческий интеллектуальный труд в нескольких отраслях, так или иначе связанных с интернетом, ПО, наукой, искусством, музыкой и т. п. Они скорее склонны инвестировать в себя как в «человеческий капитал», чем в материальные активы. Вероятно, этот капитал в будущем станет вполне способен создавать на рынке платежеспособный спрос.

Понятие «экономическая ценность» для молодежи переносится в нематериальную сферу. По их мнению (и это доказывается сегодня повсеместно), нематериальное вполне может генерировать деньги.

В связи с этим существующая ныне в России неповоротливая и косная система образования мыслящих молодых людей приводит в недоумение. В также упоминавшемся нами исследовании сотрудников РГПУ им. Герцена «Постматериальные ценности и жизненные ориентации поколения Z: цифровая молодежь в образовательной системе современной России» подчеркивается: «зэтам» непонятна необходимость госкэзаменов и ЕГЭ, само школьное образование для них выглядит обязаловкой без объяснений.

Молодежь поняла ценности самообразования. Для самых сообразительных и дерзких школа вообще перестала быть чем-то полезным. Интернет полезнее. На крайний случай есть онлайн-курсы, на которых можно обрести новую профессию.

Молодых призывают иметь нешаблонное мышление и в это же время натаскивают на шаблонные ответы для успешного прохождения тестов. Им предлагают перенимать опыт у всего мира и одновременно ограничивают в вузах развитие учебных программ, не приводя их в соответствие с потребностями времени (особенно это заметно для специальностей в сфере программирования и IT вообще).

Ученые-педагоги сообщают: для студентов стали характерны частые переходы из одного вуза в другой и смена специальности.

Выпускники школ, берущие паузу на несколько лет перед поступлением в колледж или университет «для самоопределения», уже не редкость. «Статусность» традиционного образования подвергнута молодыми сомнению. Цитируем: «…для "зэтов" не существует ни идеологии, ни авторитетов как таковых…».

По мнению ученых, молодые «…привыкли выделять важное из главного и значительно фильтровать количество получаемой информации, что является ключевой компетенцией, необходимой как в информационном обществе, так и в обществе, основанном на знаниях…».

Прогрессивные педагоги, похоже, гибче, чем экономисты – они общаются с новым сетевым поколением непосредственно и, кажется, не видят большой проблемы в том, что оно такое «странное». Некоторые учителя ищут подходы к нему, чтобы выработать новые методы эффективного образования. Снова цитируем:

«…Надо признать, что ценности являются фундаментальными жизненными ориентирами современной молодежи, и без их учета становится невозможным организовывать образовательный процесс».

У «зэтов» тоже есть вопросы к старшим поколениям

Беспокойство экономистов и социологов по поводу того, что молодежь не желает перенимать традиционные модели потребления и накопления, вполне понятно. Однако у самих молодых есть собственное беспокойство, которое выражается не только в избегании ответственности и постироничных мемах. Молодые тоже могли бы спросить:

1) Почему мы обязаны заботиться о фетише сбалансированного экономического роста? Вроде бы теории о грядущем перенаселении Земли родом из 20-го века уже опровергнуты и перенаселения не будет? Имеющихся ресурсов вполне достаточно для всех. Может быть, просто кое-кто их традиционно перераспределяет в свою пользу? И поэтому бедные беднеют, а богатые богатеют?

1) Почему мы должны рожать рано и много, отказывая себе в самореализации? У вас какие-то планы на наших детей?

1) Почему нам мешают свободно перемещаться между странами? Находить собственные пути для образования и работы?

1) Почему мы попадаем под какие-то санкции и подозрения исходя из нашей формальной принадлежности к какому-то «государству»?

1) Почему наш интернет, наши мессенджеры и соцсети постоянно пытаются отрегулировать, ограничить, заблокировать? Это наша естественная среда обитания, образования, творчества и работы!

Много подобных вопросов могли бы задать молодые. И у них есть право голоса. Только в нашей стране их 25 миллионов. А за ними следует еще одно поколение – примерно 25 миллионов россиян, которым сегодня от 0 до 15 лет. И многие из них поняли навигацию на YouTube раньше, чем стали произносить свои первые слова.

Возможно, что «угроза» традиционной экономике, которую несет странная поведенческая и потребительская повадка сетевых поколений – вовсе не то, чем кажется. А сама эта экономика – угроза для счастья молодых.

Это экономика должна поменять свое понятие о человеческом счастье, а не новые поколения – отказаться от него и покорно сунуть шею в ярмо, чтобы тянуть и дальше «в гору» этот прогнивший мир.

Rashid Khalidi, the Edward Said professor of modern #Arab studies at Columbia University, in his book “The Hundred Years’ #War on #Palestine: A History of #Settler #Colonization and #Resistance, 1917-2017” has meticulously documented this long project of colonization of Palestine.

His exhaustive research, which includes internal, private communications between the early #Zionists and #Israeli leadership, leaves no doubt that the Jewish #colonizers were acutely aware from the start that the #Palestinian people had to be subjugated and removed to create the Jewish #state.

The Jewish leadership was also acutely aware that its intentions had to be masked behind euphemisms, the patina of biblical legitimacy by Jews to a land that had been Muslim since the seventh century, platitudes about human and democratic rights, the supposed benefits of colonization to the colonized and a mendacious call for democracy and peaceful co-existence with those targeted for destruction.

Oxford university is the state finishing school for the rich, nobles etc and others who might be considered useful within the state.
Oxford hates the english language and has bastardised it with Oxford english, a greco-latin frankenstein dialect.
Students were prohibited from speaking english, on or off the premises - otherwise they got birched.
Oxford had to be dragged screaming into the enlightenment, considering, apart from certain ruling class skills, the classics more important (latin/greek)
It's clerical background equiped it well for disinformation (history) and the secret services..
I'm just posting this mention of a book because it highlights Oxford culture and influence.
I'm not recommending it. I won't read be reading it.
