Dr. Mercola ran an article on Dr. Hilleman back in 2011, which portrayed a completely different story from what the mainstream media reports regarding Dr. Hilleman. Dr. Hilleman was the developer of Merck’s vaccine program. He developed over three dozen vaccines, more than any other scientist in history. He was a member of the U.S. National Academy of Science, the Institute of Medicine, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Philosophical Society. He received a special lifetime achievement award from the World Health Organization. Hilleman was one of the early vaccine pioneers to warn about the possibility that simian viruses might contaminate vaccines. In the interview below he states: “vaccines have to be considered the bargain basement technology for the 20th century.”

On this day in 1926, #Cuban #Revolutionary #Fidel #Castro was born. He would lead a guerilla campaign with other revolutionaries such as Che Guevara to overthrow the US-backed dictator Fulgencio Batista. Before Cuba's revolution, US financial interests owned 90% of Cuba’s mines, 80% of public utilities, 50% of railways, 40% of sugar production & 25% of bank deposits.
In the first 30 months after Fidel Castro and Cuba’s communists came to power, more classrooms were built in those 30 months than had been built in the previous 30 years. Within the first six months of Castro's government, 600 miles of road had been built across the island, while $300 million was spent on water and sanitation schemes. Over 800 houses were constructed every month in the early years of the administration in a measure to cut homelessness, while nurseries and day-care centers were opened for children and other centers opened for the disabled and elderly.
With the arrival of the revolutionary government, Cuban healthcare was nationalised and expanded with heavy investment, bringing free healthcare access to millions. Universal vaccination for childhood diseases was introduced, leading to infant mortality rates plummeting. Cuba's 'army of doctors' is now sent to crisis-hit countries around the world. Since 1963, more than 600,000 Cuban health workers have provided medical services in more than 160 countries.
Fidel Castro's Cuba was also instrumental in many anti-colonial and liberation struggles across the developing world, Cuba provided material support to the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa. Cuban material support was also given to Angola and Palestine.
Despite being under the illegal embargo imposed by the US, Cuba now has a higher life expectancy than the US, has more doctors per capita than the US, and is among the top 35 countries for lowest child mortality rates. Under Fidel Castro's rule, UNICEF declared severe child malnutrition to be eradicated.

We have heard a wide range of explanations for last week’s protests in #Cuba. #Rightwing proponents of capitalism blame the Cuban #government, charging that the #protests stem from the failures of one-party #socialism. Self-proclaimed anti-imperialists blame the United States government, alleging that these protests indicate covert #US intervention. Others blame US #sanctions on Cuba, suggesting that these are chiefly to blame for creating the economic conditions that sparked the protests. Each of these narratives contains a grain of #truth, but all fall short of grasping the whole.
How do people in Cuba see the protests? If we do not wish to simply project our own assumptions onto the events, the first thing we should do is to ask Cubans how they understand what is happening. Of course, there are bound to be countless different perspectives among the participants in a popular protest movement—but we can begin by consulting those whose politics are similar to our own.
One of the more visible Cuban anarchist groups is the Alfredo López Libertarian Workshop (Taller Libertario Alfredo López), an anarchist, anti-authoritarian, and anti-capitalist initiative that emerged in 2012. They are part of the Anarchist Federation of the Caribbean and Central America and one of the participants in the ABRA Social Center and Libertarian Library.

Pierre Laurent, présent de bout en bout, assis aux côtés du nouvel ambassadeur de Cuba en France, ouvrait un hommage en forme de « performance » politico-poético-musico- hallucinée et hallucinatoire. La bande des occitans prit d’assaut la Seine après les discours, de Pierre Laurent, un discours fin, offensif , de ceux qui font du bien, de ceux que l’on aime, et une intervention sobre et forte du nouvel ambassadeur de Cuba, arrivé il y a tout juste une semaine. Michel, l’ambassadeur du #Venezuela, était caché dans la salle, tout comme l’ami, ô combien attachant, Jean Cormier, pote de Korda, de Blondin, la chanteuse délicieuse et « engagée » (sens ?) Mireille Riva, qui vient de monter avec sa troupe un « spectacle » sur le Che, présenté avec succès à la Fête de « L’Huma », des diplomates boliviens, des militants de la plume : V.K., CC, Cathy D.S , Maïté, qui « couvrit » le Salvador au temps de l’horreur, des syndicalistes CGT, des universitaires, Paul Estrade, beaucoup de militants de la solidarité et leurs associations...
Le poète occitano-internationaliste Serge Pey n’avait jamais mis les pieds dans un siège coco. Pourrait-il en ressortir ? Sa muse, Chiara la Sarde, tricota tout en douceur érotique, un immense Che, pendant que Serge guérillérait avec les mots, piétinait de rage , de transe guévarienne « Tu comprends... il faut politiser ! » PO. LI. TI. SER ! Serge est déraisonnable. D’ailleurs par les temps qui courent, ne faut-il pas être fou pour être raisonnable. Comme il n’aime pas la soupe, il n’y va jamais. Mais d’où sort-il cet impétueux gave sémantique habité ? Le sait-il sous son chapeau anar ? La Garonne le sait-elle ? L’hommage s’étirant au-delà des horaires programmés par le Gosplan, les commissaires politiques nous conseillèrent d’abréger. J.O. lit, lut, quelques morceaux verbaux (les références seront publiées sur ce blog) guévariens hétérodoxes, montrant combien le CHE était passé fort rapidement de « l’orthodoxie » (sens ?), du « soviétisme », à la recherche, antidogmatique, ouverte, seulement interrompue par la mort (à 39 ans), d’un communisme autochtone, endogène, « sui generis », ¡¡qué bien suena !!). En 1965-1966, il écrit : « On (l’URSS) retourne au capitalisme ». Visionnaire ou oiseau de mauvaise augure ?
Deux musicos, un guitariste fils de rouge exalté decazevillois, et un petit-fils de communiste espagnol castrais, qui combattit avec les anars (faut le fer !) pendant la guerre/révolution espagnole. Ils interprétèrent délicatement des textes écrits et chantés en hommage posthume au CHE, par #VictorJara, #Quilapayun, #AtahualpaYupanqui, Carlos #Puebla... Un final à la fois nostalgico-mélancolique, et d’espoir étoilé. Le Petit Prince dit un jour : « Nous avons perdu les étoiles ». Il est grand temps de les retrouver. Tard dans la nuit, mojitée par la Jeunesse Communiste, la bande « communiste-libertaire » fut libérée, après engagement à « SEGUIR JUNTOS ». « Continuer ensemble ».
P.S. : le nombre de livres « Vive le CHE ! » vendus à l’entrée dépassa celui des chocolatines et des churros.
A Vallegrande, Evo #Morales et des milliers de personnes, à Santa Clara, Raul #Castro et le peuple cubain, à Madrid, Rosario, Buenos Aires, Caracas, Tokyo, Alger, en Palestine... les résistants d’aujourd’hui honoraient celui qui « renaît sans cesse ». Qui nous invite a « SEGUIR ADELANTE ».
