6 dead, more than two dozen hospitalized in shooting at Highland Park parade north of Chicago
Six people were killed and more than two dozen others wounded when a gunman used a high-powered rifle to fire from a rooftop on people attending the Highland Park Fourth of July parade Monday.
Authorities continued to hunt Monday afternoon for the shooter, and “the offender still has not been apprehended so far,” Christopher Covelli of the Lake County sheriff’s office and the Lake County major crimes task force said at a news conference hours after the shooting.
The gunman used “a high-powered rifle” that’s been recovered, Covelli said, and he fired from a rooftop. “He was very discreet and very difficult to see.”
He called the crime “very random, very intentional.” ...
The shooting occurred in a lakeside suburb north of Chicago at about 10am local (US/Central) time.
The latest reports I have as of posting this, the gunman remains at large.

Police identified the shooting suspect as Robert E. Crimo III, 22. He is from the area, police said.

Victims of 2019 San Diego synagogue shooting allowed to sue gunmaker
A judge says victims of the 2019 synagogue shooting in San Diego County that killed one worshiper and wounded three can sue the manufacturer of the semiautomatic rifle and the gun shop that sold it to a teenager.
A 2005 federal law shields gunmakers from damages in most cases for crimes committed with their weapons, but allows lawsuits if the manufacturer was negligent or knowingly violated a state or federal law. In this case, victims and families in the Poway synagogue shooting have adequately alleged that Smith & Wesson, the nation’s largest gun manufacturer, knew its AR15-style rifle could be easily modified into a machine-gun-like or an assault weapon in violation of California law, San Diego County Superior Court Judge Kenneth Medel said Wednesday. ...
