The #Battle of #Kadesh or Battle of Qadesh took place between the forces of the New #Kingdom of #Egypt under #Ramesses II and the #Hittite #Empire under Muwatalli II at the city of Kadesh on the Orontes River, just upstream of Lake Homs near the modern Lebanon–Syria border. The battle is generally dated to 1274 BC.

There is no consensus about the outcome or what took place, with views ranging from an Egyptian #victory to a draw, or, in the view of Iranian Egyptologist Mehdi #Yarahmadi, an Egyptian defeat, with the Egyptian accounts being simply propaganda. The Hittite #army was ultimately forced to retreat, but the Egyptians were unsuccessful in capturing Kadesh.

Lipa Radić was only 15 years old when the Axis Powers invaded #Yugoslavia in 1941. However, this brave young woman joined Yugoslavia's #partisans in the fight against the Nazis - a #battle that ended with her execution at just 17 years old.
On February 8, 1943, Lipa #Radić was brought to the hastily erected gallows in full view of the public. Moments before her hanging, Radek was offered a pardon if she revealed the names of her party comrades.
She responded enthusiastically, 'I am not a traitor to my people. Those you ask about will reveal themselves when they have succeeded in eliminating all the wicked, even the last human, and thus she has been hanged.

He remains #imprisoned in #maximum #security #Belmarsh #prison for two and a half years, despite #winning his #extradition #battle in the UK’s #DistrictCourt last January. For now all eyes must be focused on the appeal at the High Court at the end of October. #Public #pressure is the only thing that can end the deliberate, punitive #incarceration of #Assange. This is, when all is said and done, the most #important #press #freedom #case of the 21st century.
