Big news from the talking potatoes:
Shoigu then showed Kim Russia’s strategic bombers – the Tu-160, Tu-95 and Tu-22M3 – which are capable of carrying nuclear weapons and form the backbone of Russia’s nuclear air attack force.
Shoigu told Kim of one of the aircraft:
It can fly from Moscow to Japan and then back again.Kim was shown asking about how the missiles were fired from the aircraft. A Russian official told him the strategic bombers were one of the key parts of Russia’s nuclear forces.
Überwachung von 2013 erscheint uns heute wie Kinderspielzeug
“If we think about what we saw in 2013 and the capabilities of governments today,” Snowden told The Guardian, “2013 seems like child’s play.”
Edward Snowden klagt an:
"We trusted the government not to screw us. But they did. We trusted the tech companies not to take advantage of us. But they did."

Twitter faces legal challenge after failing to remove reported hate tweets
Twitter has faced repeated accusations of failing to act against online hate in recent years but these have intensified since Musk took over in October. The billionaire, who has described himself as a “free speech absolutist”, restored the accounts of thousands of users who had been banned from the platform, including white supremacists with a history of involvement in neo-Nazi propaganda.
At the same time, Musk dissolved Twitter’s independent Trust and Safety Council responsible for advising on tackling harmful activity on the platform and dramatically cut staff, reportedly including those working on content moderation. Others have resigned.
Analysts detected 325,739 English-language antisemitic tweets in the nine months from June 2022 to February 2023, with the weekly average number of antisemitic tweets increasing by 106% when comparing the period before and after Musk’s acquisition. The rate of creation of antisemitic accounts more than tripled in the period after Musk’s takeover.

Russia reducing number of personnel at Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant – reports
Russia is gradually reducing the number of personnel at the occupied #Zaporizhzhia nuclear power station in southern Ukraine, Ukraine’s military intelligence agency said on Friday.
“According to the latest data, the occupation contingent is gradually leaving the territory of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant,” the main directorate of intelligence at the defence ministry (GUR) said on the Telegram messaging app.
#GUR said that among the first to leave the nuclear power station were three employees of Russian state nuclear firm Rosatom who had been “in charge of the Russians’ activities”, Reuters reports.
It said Ukrainian employees who had signed a contract with Rosatom had also been advised to depart. Employees should leave by 5 July, it said, and had been told to preferably head for the Crimea peninsula, which Russia illegally seized from Ukraine in 2014.
GUR said the number of military patrols was also gradually decreasing on the plant’s vast territory and in the nearby city of Enerhodar, and that personnel remaining at the plant had been told to blame Ukraine “in case of any emergency situations”.
Russian authorities declined to comment on the claims when approached by #Reuters.
In his opening remarks in the court session when #AlexMurdaugh got his sentence the judge said something like that of all the murderers who had sat before him he never heard someone who was able or willing to describe the very moment at which they turned into a murderer. I've been finding that thought very interesting ever since, the psychological search for the phenomenological moment in time after which you're a murderer, and before which you weren't: What happens in your mind at this exact moment? Here is someone who tries to give that answer - and yet apparently veeres off in the end. But the text does answer one other question, the one as to my motives:
After all, since meeting #Macarthur and beginning to write about those crimes, I myself had been preoccupied with a similar problem: how does one turn a life [...] into a story?
Because that's what I've been preoccupied with for the past couple of years. Not mine, of course, but life is life, after all.
Btw. I'm pretty sure the answer to the question will be completely banal.

Ukraine’s failed Mala Tokmachka assault lays bare counteroffensive challenges
Plus (found in the article, and very enlightening): Deepstatemap
After a perilous journey across the desert, Abdulaziz was locked up in Triq al-Sikka, a grim prison in Tripoli, Libya. Why? Because the EU pays Libyan militias millions of euros to detain anyone deemed a possible migrant to Europe. Like many other similar prisons across Libya, Triq al-Sikka is a place of hunger, disease, beatings, rape, torture and death. Death by starvation, death by beatings, death by execution. And death by suicide.
From the EU’s 2010 compact with Muammar Gaddafi; to its subsequent agreements with militias and warlords after western intervention had shattered Libya; to the EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa set up in November 2015 as the Syrian war caused a sharp peak in migrants and panic in European capitals; to the Khartoum Process, which drew in countries in the east of Africa, including Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan and South Sudan; to bilateral deals with countries such as Turkey and Niger – the EU has disbursed billions of euros in an effort to persuade non-European countries to act as its immigration police.
In Triq al-Sikka and other detention centres, “acts of murder, enslavement, torture, rape and other inhumane acts are committed against migrants”, observed a damning UN report, “in furtherance of a state policy”. European leaders have long been aware of this, but have chosen to shut their eyes to the reality of their policies, pretending, as British politicians do, that they are moral crusaders challenging the evils of people smugglers.

Don’t celebrate the prospect of the Tories in opposition – that’s the real danger zone
They found that in addition to being granted “extensive access” to public service broadcasters such as the BBC and Channel 4, “anti-woke” campaigners advocating against climate change policies and immigration, and for the “abnormalisation of social justice” have the regular use of 20 media outlets that amplify their message, including the Daily Telegraph, the Times, the Daily Mail, the Sun, the Daily Express, the Spectator, TalkRadio and GB News. They also isolated five thinktanks and several “charities” that they say publish and support anti-“woke” campaigners’ views, and motivated financial backers who continue to fund loss-making media ventures.
Our public discourse is so spectacularly skewed to the right that we don’t even see it any more[...]. Even as the rightwing machine revs up, Labour believes that if it focuses on the economy, doesn’t spook the horses by engaging on inflammatory issues on protest rights and identity and generally “rises above” the fetid rightwing swamp, that it guards its victory. At best this is a shortsighted political miscalculation; at worst it’s a moral abdication.
