A quotation from Wheatley, Meg

We can’t be creative if we refuse to be confused. Change always starts with confusion; cherished interpretations must dissolve to make way for what’s new.

Margaret J. "Meg" Wheatley (b. 1944) American writer, teacher, speaker, management consultant
Turning to One Another, “Willing to Be Disturbed” (2002)

Why society hates creative people. Well, society doesn't hate creative people so much as ignore them. With the exception of a tiny percentage of superstars, whose creativity is celebrated. Since there is no objective way to evaluate creative works, people judge the quality of works by how much money it makes, and how popular it is -- how many people have heard about it. In business, however, when businesses hire creative people for design work, their highest priority is predictability/reducing risk. Many businesses profess commitment to "innovation" but it's not really true. Most truly groundbreaking creative work is done by people with "nothing to lose" -- people who are "outsiders" relative to the "successful" people of their field at the time. Ironically once these people become successful, they often become less creative, resorting to incremental improvements to the "winning formula" that they discovered.

In the "and what to do about it" part of the video, he (John Mauriello) suggests techniques to help you focus on and continue to improve your creative craft irrespective of whether any of your results make money or not. Studies have shown that focusing on money actually reduces creativity. It's helpful for designers to have side projects where they can get feedback from friends or other designers and not have the pressure of money or popularity involved.

How #SiliconValley helps spread the same sterile aesthetic across the world

source: https://www.theverge.com/2016/8/3/12325104/airbnb-aesthetic-global-minimalism-startup-gentrification

We could call this strange #geography created by #technology "AirSpace." It’s the realm of coffee shops, bars, #startup offices, and co-live / #work spaces that share the same hallmarks everywhere you go: a profusion of #symbols of comfort and quality, at least to a certain connoisseurial #mindset. Minimalist #furniture. Craft beer and avocado toast. Reclaimed wood. Industrial lighting. Cortados. Fast #internet.

...

This confluence of #style is being accelerated by companies that foster a sense of placelessness, using technology to break down geography. #Airbnb is a prominent example. Even as it markets unique places as consumable goods, it helps its users travel without actually having to change their environment, or leave the warm embrace of AirSpace.

Rebelle Pro Digital Painting Software

I took advantage of the $10 sale going on now. I've only briefly tried it out but am very impressed so far.

The brushes/media texture handling etc. are very impressive.

Of course it works best with a drawing tablet but that's true of any digital art application.

I doubt it's going to replace Painter or Krita in my toolbox but ya never know.

Characters from the MCU like Captain #Marvel (4,993 images), Black Panther (4,395), and Captain America (3,155) are some of the best represented in the dataset. Batman (2,950) and Superman (2,739) are neck and neck. Luke Skywalker (2,240) has more images than Darth Vader (1.717) and Han Solo (1,013). Mickey Mouse barely breaks the top 100 with 520 images.
