Whoopi Goldberg has been suspended from a US talk show after saying the Holocaust involved "two groups of #white people".
ABC News said Goldberg would be off-air for two weeks after her "wrong and hurtful comments".
The actress and TV personality said on ABC's The View that the #Nazi genocide of the #Jews was "not about race".
She apologised but then caused further offence while attempting to explain her remarks on a late-night show.

I don't believe in #cancel culture. Someone said something that upset people, she apologised, job done. Whoopi Goldberg is not the enemy when fighting for social justice. But I'd like to share a couple of thoughts, as I've just read David #Baddiel's book Jews Don't Count.

First is the humorous but poignant observation of Schroedinger's Whites - Jews are white or not depending on the politics of the observer.

Second, and more seriously: It's not up to anti-racists to decide if Jews are a race or not. Anti-racism exists as a response to racism. The point is that racists (or white supremacists, if you prefer) define Jews as a race, and specifically as not white, and that's what matters. Anti-racists have to fight what racists say.

Daniel Randall’s book is a socialist analysis of #leftantisemitism, which asks: ‘How did the political #left, a movement apparently committed to #equality, become a site of #antisemitism, and how can antisemitism on the left be overcome?

Randall traces left antisemitism’s origins to primitive critiques of #capitalism that conflated #Jews with #capital; Stalinism’s “anti-cosmopolitan” and “ #antiZionist ” campaigns of the 1950s onwards; and a form of “ #anti-imperialism ” which designates any #opposition to western #imperialism, including #Israel, as necessarily #progressive.

He argues that, far from representing a logical continuation or inevitable endpoint of left-wing ideas, left antisemitism represents a distortion of them, and that by re-anchoring the socialist project in a #class-struggle #politics of #solidarity and #equality, the left can confront and overcome antisemitism within its own ranks.

As Keir Starmer's Labour leadership launches a new wave of proscriptions and expulsions, Randall argues that these administrative responses are inadequate at best, and counterproductive at worst. He argues that only a political-educational campaign, targeting the #ideological roots of left antisemitism, can overcome it.

This is the second original title published by No Pasaran Media and comes as debates about the response to antisemitism in the #Labour Party continue, and after a spike in antisemitic incidents following an escalation of violence in Israel/ #Palestine in May 2021.

I just wanted to try to #contextualise the notion of "antisemitism", so people who are concerned about it can understand the #phenomenon more accurately.

According to #statistics published by Tel Aviv #University, #violent anti-Semitic attacks are #trending down from a #high in 2009. This is #data available on #Statista.

According to the Tel Aviv University #stats via Statista, there have been a total of 12,492 "violent anti-Semitic incidents" #worldwide since 1989. Unfortunately the term "incident" is not defined and neither is the #violence #qualified, so there's a limit to what can be inferred from this #data.

However, the #numbers can be understood. 12,492 is an average of 403 incidents a year, over the 31 year period. That's an average of 34 a month, or about 8 a week, worldwide, over 31 years.

If we take today's #Jewish #population of around 14,000,000 into account, that means that on average 0.0029% of #Jews are #victims of anti-Semitic violence each year, which means that 99.9971% of Jews are not victims of it.

If we assume all incidents are perpetrated by #Gentiles and also consider the #Gentile population is around 7,786,000,000, that means that on average only 1 out of every 19,320,100 Gentiles commits an act of anti-Semitic violence each year. That's 0.000005176% of Gentiles, meaning that 99.999994824% of Gentiles don't commit acts of anti-Semitic violence.

Great news for everybody, except those who use "#antisemitism" as a #political #tool and those organisations like the #ADL whose #financial existence relies on "antisemitism" remaining a significant #problem.

There is also no doubt that racial, moral and cultural reasons, although perhaps most important, were not the only ones for which the National Socialists saw the Sioux as Aryans. Undoubtedly, political and propaganda motives, about which F. Usbeck writes, were also at stake. Labeling the Sioux and Mexicans as Aryans was obviously intended to ensure friendly relations between these peoples and the German Reich, which was important in view of the anticipated conflict with the United States. In 1942, German propaganda predicted that there would soon be an Indian uprising in the United States and that the Indians would not fight alongside the Americans on the fronts of World War II. Joseph Goebbels was convinced that the Indians would never stand alongside their oppressors, from whom they had suffered so much harm over the centuries. As Timothy C. Downing emphasizes, the Germans also spent a considerable amount of their time and money trying to win the support of the Indians for the cause they fought for, and even promised to return the expropriated land to the Native Americans after winning the war.

These actions had some effect. The American Indian Federation (AIF), one of the largest political Indian organizations in the 1930s, was openly pro-German and anti-Jewish, and its members strongly criticized President Roosevelt's New Deal policy. Prominent members of this organization, such as Elwood A. Towner, an attorney from Portland and the leader of the Hupa Indians, incorporated the symbolism and ideology of National Socialism into their political agitation. In his speeches, he always appeared to the public wearing a traditional Indian costume with a swastika band, which he compared to the ancient symbol of the Indians - the Thunderbird. In his July 9, 1939 speech, Towner accused the Jews, whom he described as "chuck-na-gin", which in Indian language meant "children of Satan". He claimed that the Indians had to unite with good Christians in order to fight the Communist bug-infested administration of President Roosevelt, which he described as "evil forces". He told his listeners that the American government was under Jewish control and that President Roosevelt himself was a crypto-Jew who was in fact supposed to be called Rosenfelt. He concluded by saying that it would be a wise decision for the Native Americans to accept the ideals of National Socialism.
