Mini Tokyo 3D – is an open source real-time 3D digital map of Tokyo’s public transport system: Watch the trains and planes moving

Screenshot of a 3D map with buildings and railway lines, showing trains along the tracks
Trains in operation and airplanes that are arriving or departing are represented on a realistic 3D map with smooth animation. This is a “digital twin” that looks exactly like the real world in the digital world.

Users can freely move around on the 3D map and zoom in on the places they want to see to know the “now” of Tokyo. It can be used in various ways such as looking for the transfer route as a route map, checking the destination town and weather before going out, just watching the way along the railway by automatically tracking a train and judging if you should dash to not miss the final train from the current position of the train.

Mini Tokyo 3D is a web application that you can run in any web browser, regardless of device, such as PCs, smartphones, tablets, and set-top boxes.

You’d think by 2022 we’d all be seeing this type of data. It is fully possible (and the code is open sourced on Github). Personally, I’d like to see our council rubbish trucks being displayed like this, so we can see when they are arriving.

#China Has Opened Up Secret #Police Stations in These Countries

source: https://www.newsweek.com/china-overseas-police-service-center-new-york-city-crime-1753242

In the United States, the report's open-source data indicated one such service center in #NewYork City. In #Canada, three were established in #Toronto.

In South #America, there was one each in #Quito and #Guayaquil, #Ecuador; #Rio de Janeiro and #SãoPaulo, #Brazil; #BuenosAires, #Argentina; and #Viña del Mar, #Chile.

Most of the Chinese overseas police stations were located in #Europe, including nine in #Spain, the most of any country on the list: three in #Madrid, three in #Barcelona, two in #Valencia and one in #Santiago de Compostela.

#Italy was hosting the second-most stations in Europe with four: #Rome, #Milan, #Florence and #Prato.

In #France, three service centers were operating out of #Paris. #Portugal also hosted one each in #Porto, #Lisbon and #Madeira. In United Kingdom, the report found two in #London and one in #Glasgow.

The #Netherlands was hosting two such centers in #Amsterdam and #Rotterdam, respectively, while the #CzechRepublic had two in #Prague. #Budapest, #Hungary, also had two, one for each of the #Fuzhou and #Qingtian police bureaus—a common phenomenon across Europe.

European countries each hosting only one Chinese police station included #Dublin, #Ireland; #Bratislava, #Slovakia; #Frankfurt, #Germany; #Athens, #Greece; #Stockholm, #Sweden; #Vienna, #Austria; #Odessa, #Ukraine; and #Belgrade, #Serbia.

In #Africa, #BeninCity, #Nigeria; #Maseru, #Lesotho; and #DarEsSalaam, #Tanzania, each hosted one.

In Asia, at least one police center was operating out of #Ulaanbaatar, #Mongolia; #Sirdaryo, #Uzbekistan; #BandarSeriBegawan, #Brunei; #Tokyo, #Japan; and #PhnomPenh, #Cambodia.

China wants to be the new world police 😱

‘It felt like history itself’ – 48 protest photographs that changed the world

The Guardian

Protest can change everything. Which is why governments around the world want to suppress it. In a week when thousands in the US expressed their fury over Roe v Wade, we look back at some of the images that helped rewrite laws and change the way we think.

Governments tend to define democracy as narrowly as possible. The story they tell goes as follows: you vote; the majority party takes office; you leave it to govern on your behalf for the next four or five years. (...)

We have seen what happens if we leave politics to governments. Fairly elected or not, they will, without effective public pressure, abuse their power. (...)

Trust in governments destroys democracy, which survives only through constant challenge. It requires endless disruption of the cosy relationship between our representatives and powerful forces: the billionaire press, plutocrats, political donors, friends in high places. What challenge and disruption mean, above all, is protest. (...)

A government that cannot tolerate protest is a government that cannot tolerate democracy.

Such governments are becoming a global norm. In the UK, two policing bills in quick succession seek to shut down all effective forms of protest. (...)

In the US, state legislatures have been undermining the federal right to protest, empowering the police to use catch-all offences such as “trespass” or “disrupting the peace” to break up demonstrations and make arrests. (...) In Russia, a new law against “discrediting the armed forces” has been used to prosecute dissenters engaging in actions as mild as writing “no to war” in the snow. Similar draconian laws are being imposed by governments in many other nations.

Why do governments want to ban protest? Because it’s effective. Why do they want us to accept their narrow vision of democracy? Because it makes our power ineffective. (...)

The extraordinary people in these images understand this – from suffragettes picketing the White House in 1917 to Patsy Stevenson being manhandled by police at last year’s Sarah Everard vigil; from relatives of those killed at Amritsar in India in 1919 to those taking to the streets after George Floyd’s murder in the US.

Almost everything of importance is disintegrating fast: ecosystems, the health system, standards in public life, equality, human rights, terms of employment. (...) Business as usual is a threat to life on Earth. Disrupting it is the greatest civic duty of all. (...)
