#Matveev’s online shenanigans, which include giving lengthy interviews to #cybersecurity journalists, posting selfie videos of himself driving around while listening to Metallica, and writing about his #hacking activities, show that he does not seem to care about being on the FBI’s most wanted list. And as long as he doesn’t leave #Russia, his life may not be that much different that it was before he got indicted.

our confirmation bias, our cognitive illusions, are due eternal vigilance, to not succumb to their blinding arogance and mental/investigative/scrutinative sloth.
this is true whether stupid, or oh so much more clever.

because if you really are oh so much more clever, you will suffer more fuel on that fire.
and also, thinking you're oh so much more clever, is improbably true. not that i'm saying truth's always derivable, or even aproachable, through simple statistical analysis, but... since we're always going on a little information, and the dangerousness of how little that information is, can be worsened by how much littler we make it by our confirmation-biasing, cognitive illusions, our slothful lazy hastey grasp on shortcuts, we dont even realise, we're doing it, we dont even realise how little we have, and we tell ourselves we have a lot, we tell ourselves as much as we have, is a lot of what there is, even to the extreme, that it's all there is. unwittingly, we become know it alls, with next to nothing. and we think we're the smarty-est.
there's no shame in the truth.
we're not that smart.
we're not as smart as we think we are. no shame in the truth, that we think we're smart, and that we think that's smarter than we are.
knowing this,
helps us get smarter.
wiser.
wise enough to continue learning.
wise enough to catch ourselves from short-handed thinking.
wise enough to see when we have, and wise enough eagerly accept that, and even point it out to others. wise enough to accept we'll likely never absolutely be beyond this, and even more likely are not beyond it right now, and so reapplies the humility introspective vigilance, not to identify as one who has risen above it, but to persist in plucking away and batting away all the times it has happened already, and all the times more oncoming.

I've decided to pretty much "let it be" on Post.news, other than a casual visit from time to time.}
I follow enough of a sample (mostly journalists, authors, and a few political scientists &/or commenters) so I have a feed.
I've posted a few things so I've seen the very nice formatting, (If you type within asterisks it automatically italicizes, for example, and there's an option for headlines with each post, etc.) You can "like" but not re-share as-is.
Unique sorts of things: You cannot just 're-post' / tweet / toot whatever, without adding to it, title, intro, whatever.
If there is a working notifications system/function it's quite oblique to me. I've never seen a notice even on the few posts I got reactions to, although in the beginning I did get email notices of a comment or 'like'. Lately I've seen nothing, though that might reflect my dearth of posts and followers. (I do use tags). I'm now seeing most of the news org feeds I follow, placing a price (nominal but there) on reading full articles. Some are only a few sentences long, some complain. Others full-length reads from expensive sites.
This one (graphic) is by one of the more prolific posters, an author who promotes his book and blog, but also posts freebies (always a surprise if hitting the "read more" button leads to a lengthy article or the end of one sentence). As you can see, the 'hot topic' capturing so much 'news' today is Biden's (false-equivalent) having left a few papers in his office when he left as VP. #GQP pouncing.
Pretty much I've been looking at the same few people's posts in my "following feed", including this very active fellow (author, mega-poster, and booster of the platform). And the media feeds I see are basically mirrors of Twitter accounts (Reuters, etc.)
I'm a bit wary of what seems like a trend (on my timeline at least) of mostly for-pay reads on the news org sites. So it's double-edged, the news orgs are 'landing' on #Post - mostly mirroring Twitter feeds now - and finding a new for-pay potential. Right now Post.news is still in Beta, and it may change massively yet, interface etc., and the pay-to-appreciate model (sort of like Brave browser!) is now fueled by the free tokens one gets at sign-up (50) plus one can buy more. Maybe a good "deal" for those who want to sample otherwise paywalled sites (like WSJ, WAPO, NYT, etc.)
So for the moment, my impression is of a nice interface for writers/bloggers, but a bit "one way" as opposed to encouraging a lot of interaction, comments, re-shares. I'm guessing some of the big celebs (George Takei for example) are also just branching out as a cushion for Twitter's losing many followers and accounts, &/or trying it out (many saying they like it.... but again, I see it more as a presenting platform than interactive, though that may reflect my limited immersion.
So that's that. I still see huge energy growing numbers in #Mastodon, more so than #MeWe or "here" in diaspora* land ...
Thing is, #Twitter is like a huge blimp with many holes. Lots of people saying "time to jump" and/or 'the fumes are toxic, just leave", as others wait it out. Lots and lots of bots - and #MuskVirus - #disinformation and #trolling.
Choice is good. It's nice to have some comfy spots to hang and share/discover, or just take in the view, or shoot the breeze....
Seems "all quiet here" other than some annoying glitch whereby constant notifications are sent about old posts, particularly on private rather than public posts, it seems.... Ah well, #IIWII , tech, interfaces, people....

It's no surprise Toby Morton came up with such a hilariously simply and affective way to antagonise and rile up the likes of Kari Lake, Ron Johnson and Greg Abbott, considering he is responsible for writing some of the much-loved animated sitcom South Park.
Morton has since received widespread praise for the 'genius' way he's targeted vocal US supporters of either Donald Trump's 'Make America Great Again' campaign or the political conspiracy theorist group QAnon.
Instead of sending US politicians hate over social media, Morton decided to buy each of their domain names online and subsequently throw a spanner in the works for their political campaigning.
Strap yourself in because you're in for a treat.

Als ich selbst eine solche WhatsApp-Nachricht erhielt, beschloss ich spontan, beim Betrug “mitzuspielen”, ohne jedoch Geld zu überweisen. Ich wollte die Vorgehensweise der Täter kennenlernen und dabei Kontoverbindungsdaten erhalten, die ich dann umgehend an die Polizei weitergeben würde. Mit ein bisschen Glück kann man dann weitere Taten erschweren oder sogar bei der Täterfeststellung mithelfen.
Sie lesen im Folgenden die Original-WhatsApp-Kommunikation mit dem Täter, grafisch generiert aus der WhatsApp-Protokoll-Datei. Ich habe lediglich Namen und Kontonummern gekürzt, da es sich um weitere Opfer-Daten handeln könnte.

The smartphone app Replika lets users create chatbots, powered by machine learning, that can carry on almost-coherent text conversations. Technically, the chatbots can serve as something approximating a friend or mentor, but the app’s breakout success has resulted from letting users create on-demand romantic and sexual partners — a vaguely dystopian feature that’s inspired an endless series of provocative headlines.
Replika has also picked up a significant following on Reddit, where members post interactions with chatbots created on the app. A grisly trend has emerged there: users who create AI partners, act abusively toward them, and post the toxic interactions online.
Which shows that where some humans think there is no accountability, or they don’t perceive any physical harm, their darker side tends to emerge. I’m just wondering if there is not a similar tendency seen for why people do trolling online? Could it be possible that a similar personality trait falls prey to both these behaviours? It’s an interesting area for research as we’re bound to interact more and more with AI bots, etc in the future.
