The war in Ukraine is not just about Ukraine and #Russia with the US and NATO acting as seemingly benevolent supporters of Ukraine, as the Western #media portray.
The United States and its NATO allies are deeply involved in the conflict. The military withdrawal from #Afghanistan in 2021 – after 20 years of futile occupation – was a calculated “reorganization of firepower” against Russia, says Pepe Escobar.
Ukraine is merely a proxy and ultimately cannon fodder for American imperial planners.
This war is part of a bigger geopolitical confrontation between the US and Russia, China and other nations that are pushing for the emergence of a multipolar world. That is a multipolar world no longer under the hegemony of US-dominated Western capitalism.
Pepe Escobar assesses the bigger picture and outlines how the US imperial state is in "panic mode" to shore up the collapsing American-controlled global capitalist system, and in particular the privileged position of the US dollar.
Going to war with Russia presently and in the longer term against #China is part of the desperate dynamic to prolong the dominant position of Washington that was established after the Second World War. That postwar imperial order – euphemistically called the "rules-based order" – is increasingly falling into disrepute from unbridled imperialist wars and abuse of financial controls.
The vast majority of the planet wants liberation from the US/Western warmongering system that underpins capitalist exploitation that only enriches a global elite. The war in Ukraine is but the manifestation of the breakdown in US global power and the desperation to preserve the systematic inequality that defines capitalism.
This year is fraught with extreme danger, says Pepe Escobar. But if the psychotic US deep-state planners can be contained by Russia and China without an all-out catastrophic war erupting then there is a chance of a more hopeful, peaceful and just world order emerging.

Die sozialistische Republik Kuba hat erstmals den Pro-Tempora-Vorsitz der Gruppe der 77 + China, einem Zusammenschluss von 134 Ländern des Globalen Südens, inne. Die Übergabe erfolgte in einer virtuellen Zeremonie, an der Kubas Präsident Miguel Diaz-Canel, der Generalekretär der Vereinten Nationen, Antonio Guterres, der Präsident der UN-Generalversammlung Csaba Korosi und der pakistanische Außenminister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari teilnahmen.
Diaz-Canel rief in seiner Ansprache dazu auf, Maßnahmen zu ergreifen, um "die Hindernisse für den wirklichen Fortschritt der Völker" zu überwinden: "Die Einheit ist ein Gebot und die größte aller Notlagen".
In diesem Sinne betonte auch der kubanische Außenminister Bruno Rodríguez, dass die Bündnisse innerhalb der Organisation in schwierigen Zeiten gestärkt werden müssten. Er wies darauf hin, dass sein Land im Rahmen der G77-Präsidentschaft die internationale Zusammenarbeit fördern werde, um die wirtschaftliche Erholung der Entwicklungsländer nach der Pandemie zu beschleunigen. Die Präsidentschaft Kubas werde auch darauf abzielen, die Süd-Süd-Zusammenarbeit effektiver zu gestalten und die Nord-Süd-Zusammenarbeit zu fördern, damit die Industrieländer ihrer historischen Verantwortung gerecht werden. Innerhalb der G77 werde Kuba die Konsolidierung gemeinsamer Positionen, die Stärkung der Einheit der Gruppe und die Teilnahme an den wichtigsten laufenden multilateralen Prozessen fördern.
Sein Ministerium, so versprach Rodríguez, werde sich auch für die Konsolidierung eines "auf Regeln basierenden, transparenten, nicht diskriminierenden, offenen und integrativen multilateralen Handelssystems" einsetzen. Ebenfalls auf der kubanischen Agenda stehe die Verteidigung des allgemeinen Zugangs zu hochwertiger Bildung und Gesundheit.
Nach Ansicht des Präsidenten der 77. UN-Generalversammlung, Csaba Korösi, werde die kubanische Präsidentschaft in der G77+China bei der Forderung nach einer gerechteren Weltordnung erfolgreich sein. "Die Prioritäten, die Kuba gesetzt hat, sind sehr ermutigend. Ich hoffe, dass Fortschritte erzielt werden können, und ich zähle auf Ihre Führung", sagte er und ergänzte: "Ich bin zuversichtlich, dass ich auf G77+China setzen kann, um die Welt wieder auf den Pfad der Transformation zu bringen".
Der 1964 von der Bewegung der Blockfreien Staaten gegründeten G77 gehören derzeit 134 Länder an. Sie repräsentiert 75 Prozent der Mitglieder der Vereinten Nationen und 80 Prozent der Weltbevölkerung. Die Gründungsabsicht war, eine verstärkte gemeinsame Verhandlungskapazität des Globalen Südens innerhalb der Vereinten Nationen zu schaffen. Die Volksrepublik China begann ihre Kooperation mit der G-77 anlässlich der "UN-Konferenz für Umwelt und Entwicklung" im Jahr 1992, ist inzwischen aber Mitglied der G77. Die immer noch häufig verwendete Terminologie "G-77+China" geht auf die Anfangszeit der Kooperation zurück.

Despite the latest internal fighting between fractions of the IRGC who feels the vacuum since the assassination of brigadier general Soleimani by Trump 2 years ago, the IRGC is still the only solid support the regime has.
The IRGC that started with just a few hard core religious guys with G3 riffles in 1979, has turned into a military force with branches in navy, air force and of course it's army and the foreign operation Qods force. On top of that, they have taken over many key industrial and trade companies in Iran and abroad making it one of the biggest economical power in the country, even mightier than the old traditional Bazar (the merchants) that was the key to bringing down the regime of Pahlavi in 79.
Question is, can this action benefit Iran and Iranians or it will push Iran further toward a North Korean style isolation and leaning more toward Russia, China and even if they are pushed far enough even the Taliban?
Only time will show how it develops!
