My boomer relatives keep sending me prepaid gift cards without any money on them. These cards, typically adorned with a Visa logo, loaded with money — $50, $100, $500 — and displayed prominently in pharmacies and supermarkets, are meant to be spent anywhere that accepts debit cards. The problem is fraudsters have figured out how to spend them first.
Curious as to where the plastic was going, she bought a set of AirTags, and included them in various bags of her plastic recycling. Of the bags she tracked, nearly all of them went to a company called Wright #Waste Management, located in nearby Harris County.
The company is not approved to store plastic waste, and has failed three fire inspections.

Boots, Superdrug and the big supermarket chains have been accused of “murky and confusing” practices on loyalty card offers that may not be as good as they appear.
Boots was responsible for one of the most egregious examples of what the consumer group Which? called “dubious discounts” highlighted by its investigation into the pricing history of almost 12,000 products on a “snapshot day” in May.
Boots offered an Oral-B iO7 electric toothbrush to loyalty card holders for £150, marking this as a discount to the £400 price for non-members.
However, the product was only priced at £400 for 13 days before the offer appeared – before that it was £150 for everyone.

In the year since the British Museum said it had fired a curator for stealing from its storerooms and selling the artifacts online, the organization has struggled to deal with fallout from the scandal, which has battered its reputation as a protector of world treasures.
